I tried it and although the Windows Live Essentials version of Movie Maker recognizes the camera and says it is capturing, nothing appears on the screen or on the hard drive. Any other ideas?

I'll try the update. Windows Movie Maker did not do it.

I am surprised that Roxio has not fixed it.

Hi

Would really appreciate a little from you guys. I am trying to capture some footage from Sony TRV38 to Premiere Pro CS4. The problem is that I use a Windows vista and Sony has not released any drivers for this operating system. They support upto XP but not any later than that. Any ideas ?

Thanks

Windows Movie Maker is considered the lowest common denominator for capturing video when nothing else works. Give that a shot. (Also try the Windows Live Essentials version of Movie Maker, it adds a few little things and is free--find it on Windows Update.)

I have a Dell Studio 540 with Vista 64 bit and have not been able to capture HD video from my Canon HV10 to Roxio 2009. I have been told that capture is not compatable with 64 bit althouh once captured, processing is superior to 32 bit. I have searched in vain for a program that can be used to caprture and asked Roxio and Microsoft if there is a fix on the way but no satisfactory answer. I'm sure someone has the solution.

Not knowing what level of editor you are looking for, many of the new ones allow free 30 trial downloads (wait until you are ready to work with them to install as the clock starts once it is installed). I would look at them for the features you want then take those that have them for a "test drive".

I use a consumer level NLE, Corel Video Studio Pro X2. My videos do not need fancy transitions or chroma-key overlays, although this will do some nice ones. It supports 1 master and 6 overlay video tracks.

I used Pinnacle Liquid Edition 6 a few years ago and I am getting back into it. I found out that liquid is not supported on vista. I was able to get it to install in demo mode but it never asked for the studio 9 disks, and I can't get that to install. My question is, what is the closest software to Liquid that will work on vista. I was looking at Studio 12, but it only has 2 video tracks and I feel that I may need more.

Take a look at your version for VSPX2. if it is 12.0.96.0 try installing the update patch found at the web page below. It was to fix a lot of issues like you are describing, some of it around working with vista. Let us know if this doesn't solve it.

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/au/en/Content/1157481830100?pid=1229440480826

Your version should read 12.0.96.1 after the update.

You can also take a look at the corel forum http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=1 They are extremely helpful with any of the corel product issues and tutorials.

I am using Corel Videostudio X2 pro on my laptop with VISTA.

I recently produced two videos that I am having a problem with choppy segments on the final video clip. One video was about 40 minutes long while the other only had a total run time of about 2.5 minutes.

When I have all the clips laid out in the editor things look good with the playback, but then after I render it all together by clicking on share/create video file and select dv 16x9 the final video when viewed on the computer or television on a DVD there are parts that have pretty choppy video.

I did notice that when I put all the files on my portable hard drive and transfer it to my kids laptop with windows XP (using the same version of Corel Videostudio pro X2) it works just fine. Is this simply a VISTA problem?

Thanks

I have a slowly dying Videonics switcher, and would like to use a spare Vista machine as a switcher/recorder.

I have three cameras fed into the switcher via s-video to tape live events and church services. Audio is run from a mixer board. What I'm thinking of doing is putting three or four PCI tv tuner cards into the PC -- but i'm not sure if one PC can handle that many.

What I'd really like to find is like the Canopus boards we used to have when I worked for Charter Cable. Four inputs on one card, onscreen previews of the video feeds in an easy to use switching program. This was back in the days of Win98 and Pentium II 266Mhz and only 256megs of ram. If that clunker could handle that, surely there's stuff out now that can do it, too.

The Canopus boards are no longer around -- they were old when I got to use them. VidBlaster software is a reasonablepackage to handle multiple sources -- the only issue I'm faced with is getting those analog sources into the computer.

Anyone out there editing on a 64-bit Vista pc? We just purchased a laptop with 64-bit Vista & are having some issues with Premier Elements 4.0. I'm considering upgrading to CS3, but the system requirements for that product state that it is not certified on a 64-bit processor. If anyone out there has had success editing with 64-bit please let me know what software you are using. I'm knee deep in wedding videos to edit & I must find a stable software solution. PE4 has caused sleepless night & stress out my ears...Adobe has no resolution to the issue & stated that they didn't test the product for 64-bit and, therefore, can't guarantee it will work. Well, to this point, I can guarantee it WON'T! I would go back to PE2, which worked perfectly, but it won't work with Vista!  ARRGGGGGHHH!!!!

There should be no compatibility issues with the PV GS500 and Vista. Any potential problems may be with certain video editing software and Vista. For instance I have a 2 year old HP with dual core 4200+ processor and 2GB Ram and a 4 month old HP with dual core 5000+ processor and 3GB Ram.

Both have the same NVIDIA 6150SE graphics on the motherboard with shared memory of course. The older machine runs XP and the newer one runs Vista.Â

The older machine with XP, slower processor, and less RAM actually processed video faster and with less glitches than the newer faster machine running Vista. Â

With the Panasonic PV GS500 this is not much of a problem for me, but I recently acquired a Canon HV20 and the difference in performance editing HDV is much more apparent. I use Pinnacle Studio Plus 11.1.1 on both machines and for music soundtrack I use SonicFire Pro 4.5.5 as well. So for now I'll be doing all my HDV editing on the older machine.

Another Vista problem I have is with the Samsung 216BW monitor. Vista does not recognize the monitor profile on this model no matter how many times I've run the monitor profile software that came with it. I found many references to others with the same problem on the web, Microsoft apparently will not address the problem and Samsung does not understand it. They are sending me a replacement monitor but I can put this monitor on the older computer and it functions perfectly.

So if you'r looking to acquire a Panasonic PV GS500 don't worry about camcorder compatibility with Vista, the camcorder will do it's part and is the best standard def miniDV camcorder on the market in it's price range.Â

I do recommend 2 accessories for the GS500. An external stereo mic (The Rode StereoVideoMic comes with a Deadcat wind muff and has improved my audio many times over the onboard mic. I use it on a stand just out of the frame and almost never use the onboard mic. The second item is the "screen hoodie30" from http://www.cinetactics.com. It does cost a bit more than the Hoodman product sold through B&H in New York but is MUCH SUPERIOR to the Hoodman. It blocks light from the LCD much better and if possible you should never use the brightness boost on that screen, if you do, you cannot judge exposure by what you see.

Hope you find this info helpful.
