Hello everyone,

I am new in this forum even if I have been reading you since a while...

I need a little help and advice regarding my equipment.

I am editing videos and when I manage HD or HDTV is really impossible with my old MAC BOOK PRO 15"

here is the details of my old mac:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.27f3
Serial Number (system): W883213AYK0
Hardware UUID: 29ED50A5-EA39-5E4D-9FA1-707C3B809B3E
Sudden Motion Sensor:
State: Enabled

I believe I can upgrade the memory, would that be helpful enough to run FCP 6 and HD files in decent way?....or......?

I am working on shorter formats so just need a little kick for now.

Thanks in advance for your help...(I am girl and not techy much just can't do it myself)

cheers

Hi,

I'm looking for a couple of videographers.

From time to time we get asked to do video editing work. It would normally consist of simply stripping out an English-language voice over from a digital video and adding a new language VO. Because most of this work is for corporate videos (as opposed to television or film work), it does not need to be lip-sync'd. We paragraph-synchronise the audio during recording. There may, however, be a
little audio (or video) tweaking to be done (by you) to some of the start and end points for each phrase / paragraph / scene (eg. time-stretch, tiny cuts).

Work would be on a per-project basis, from your home / studio

Pay per-hour.

We usually do not give much advance notice, so you would need to be generally available on a day-to-day basis for an hour or two at a time. If this is not the case, please do not apply.

Is this kind of work something you are capable of, are available for, and would be interested in doing?

Thanks,

When I try to copy a video from my PC to a disk I get a "failed to copy" error message after several hours of processing with no further explanation. I can copy from the camera (Panasonic HDC-TM15) to the PC with HD writer with no problems. I have the same problem with my PC at my office that is brand new. Should i upgrade to HD writer AE 2.1? The Panasonic website suggests that the versions are camera specific.

I have my current setup with dual 27" displays running on a QuadCore Desktop, its nothing special but it gets my work done. Friends have been wanting me to upgrade my stuff so that I can edit their Indy projects. I have been wanting to upgrade anyway as I got a new job as a commercial editor and I would like to do some of my work at home.

I am going to build my own computer to use Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere, my budget is 15,000$

I can build a computer myself as I have built several what I have no clue about is more advanced setups for video editing. I keep hearing about Kona3G and BlackMagic but I don't know exactly how they integrate.I would love to have scopes to check all my stuff for broadcast, speakers for surround sound setup and editing.

Honestly I'm just at a complete loss of where to start once I get the base computer setup. Here is what I have so far (I'll store all my video/projects on my server):

Two Video Editing Monitors - Asus VH242H

Motherboard - Asus P6X58D-E

Processor - Intel Core i7-970 Gulftown 3.2Ghz

RAM -Corsair XMS 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 (x4)

Hard Drive - Western Digital AV-GP WD10EURS 1TB 64MB Cache SATA

Graphics Card (for two monitors) - PNY VCQFX3800-PCIE-PB Quadro FX 3800 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

That is my base to work with now what I need is to figure out the rest of the setup

Capturing HD, SD and being able to Listen to and Edit Surround Sound. Should I just buy a Surround Sound card and get some quality speakers (I was thinking KRK Speakers) and somehow to hook up a broadcast CRT monitor and then also support a HD TV connection for previewing to clients and stuff, do I just need another graphics card or should I look into something like Blackmagic or Kona?

I'm sure you'll have questions for me to help figure out more of my needs, I'll answer what I can.

I'm a relative newbie video editor looking to expand my editing setup. Â I've read that I should be running a reference monitor other than my computer monitors. Â Is this only necessary for SD video? Â I deal exclusively with HD (or upconverted HD). Â Would that look the same on a reference monitor as on my cpu display?

If I DO need a ref monitor, what do you recommend? Â This might be a dumb question, but do I need an additional card to get from the computer to the monitor? Â Is there anything else I would need for this setup?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I want to start a show with talking objects like that real stupid Youtube show called "Annoying Orange". The problem is I have no idea where to start or even what to ask. I just bought a camcorder, but have an old laptop which I plan on replacing soon (don't know if that's relevant).

First I would like to know what software I can use that allows me to put my mouth and eyes on an object, and one that's easy to use and or easy to learn. For the most part I know my way around a computer but am not familiar with all the video editing lingo.

Also, along with the software recommendation could someone please give me a laundry list of stuff I'll need to have to make videos. I have the camcorder but is a green screen etc needed? Any information to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I have a very large collection of home videos in VHS format. I recently bought the canopus ADVC110 capture device to convert all the tapes to digital format.

The device came packaged (for some extra dollars) with Pinnacle Studio 14HD. The first impression was good but quickly I gave up on using the pinnacle software as it crashes too much and without any obvious reason to do so.

Therefore I am looking for alternative that would be powerful and STABLE. However, I am having a hard time deciding which software to choose as there are many programs available.

Which software do you think would be suitable?

I would like to emphasis that I want to get professional results and I don't mind to read a book if needed to understand how the program works. Also, money is not an issue (up to 500$) as long as the program delivier a stable experience, great quality and some nice effects (DVD authoring ability would be a bonus).

Thanks in advance,

I hope that someone can put me in the right direction. I have been doing video editing for a long time not as a profession. I used for a long time Ulead Media Studio Pro 8. I recently bought a very powerful 64 bit operating system and I want to drop Media studio pro and choose a new editing software. I am undecided between Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and MAgix video edit Pro x2. I tried both softwares for a month and I learnt the Magix in no time while it's taking me a lot more time to learn the Adobe. Should I stick to the Adobe or is Magix just as good ? Thank you, Umberto.

I am looking for feedback on who has the best Multicam Video Editing Software that runs on a personal computer. I know that some of the newer packages have this feature built in. I know that some people have used “workarounds” for older software such as Premier 6. Is there anyone out there who has any strong options on a good way to go?

I am fairly new in video editing and I want to make a DVD with best image/resolution/audio quality from 48 small *.avi clips ranging from 53 to 55 MB in size and about 5 to 5.5 minutes long play time. They all have about 29.70 seconds of startup routine that I want to cut off from all except one clip that would be the first clip. Currently the combined size of all the clips is about 2.5 GB but, I think, after removing first 29.70 seconds of video from 47 of them would probably make the total data size of 2.3 GBâ?¦so how can I edit and burn these clips in more time-efficient way on a 4.7 GB DVD-R which I can play on a regular DVD player to watch on a TV? Can somebody help me with this small project? Thanks in Advance!

Hello,

I am a new member in this forum. I am very serious about video production. I will be having my first camera this coming Christmas.. I will be purchasing an hd minidv hv40.

The problem I have is that I do not know if my cmputer will be able to handle it. I currently have the AMD phenom x4 9150e quadcore. It is the hp pavilion phoenix special edition se a6655f.It comes with a nvidia geforce 6150 se graphics (read it is not good) but also read it doesnt matter in video editing??I have a gpu of 300watts, sata interface 3gb/s and 5gb of RAM.

According to

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01357135

I found out that the maximun you can upgrade is to a Phenom with Quad Core technology (AM2+) up to 9600, and for video cardand according to

http://www.5starsupport.com/ipboard/index.php?showtopic=18002

to anxfx geforce 9600 gso.

I am super overwhelmed to the point that i can not sleep. I do not want to buy a camera that in the end won't be able to be editted , add effects and 3d animations maybe. I am planning to use Adobe Master collection, Maya and Realflow.I can not afford a Mac right now... maybe in the future.. I do not think i will be doing long films, I will start doing short videos and events such as live events, interviews, but eventually i will move to longer videos.

As for the budget, I really care about optimal performance instead of minimal...I really would like to know if it would be more expensive to upgrade my computer's current's motherboard or should i just get a new one. Which one would be cheaper in the long run.. with this I mean pay more now but have more possibilities to upgrade in the future or upgrade now.. and reach the limit to what my motherboard can do. I know hd can be a pain to work with... but I have read in forums that that is where the future of video is heading torwards.

I would love to know what is the perspective of video editing experts or people who have enough experience in the matter. I also would appreciate in mic recommendations.. and external hard drives.. so far for mics i want to get a good shotgun mic that i plan to set up in a mic stand. I really care about audio quality recording, I will be getting the juice link that accepts xlr mic connectors. As for hard drives, the research has made me nauseous.. so many good and bad reviews for every brand.. I know an external hard drive will be essential for video storage and real time editing. I have been recommended the WD and Lacie doesnt convince me because of so many bad reviews. I am scared to lose an entire product... some people say it is based on luck... that does not help at all..

I hope I did not sound too confusing. English is my second language, so I apologize for anything that sounds weird and the run on sentences...

Sincerely,

Kathy

Thanks for your valuable time.

I'm working on a project which calls for some automated video editing -- I need my video server to search through a few large video files, copy segments from each of the files and merge them together in a new video file. Need it all to be done automatically, based on selecting footage starting at frame x and ending at frame y.

Have been toying with avisynth but I cannot figure out how to save the new video file in an automated way (I have been opening the avs script with VirtualDub and saving the new, edited file from within VirtualDub, but I need to structure this to run completely within a script or a program).

I'm over my head! Anyone know how to do this? Is avisynth even the right programming language to use for script-level video editing?

I graduated with a degree in "Media Studies" and a concentration in "Production Technology" about a year and a half ago. Â I learned to edit video and audio, and run a news program. Â Unfortunately, there was very little in the way of anything that has actually helped me make a living. Â I thought I was going to become a video editor, but it's hard to edit video when your training consists of one lesson of AVID and one lesson of Final Cut Pro. Â It was very basic. Â I'm making less than $6000 a year now because I don't have sufficient skills.

What should I do?

Ok guys, about a month or two ago I posted up my first 3 quicky tech videos for cretique.

Here is the first one I ever did:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llCvyymzBn4

After getting some feedback, watching some professional tech programs on TV, watching some behind the scenes footage of some movies and a LOT of shooting, reshooting, practicing, and reshooting I've finally gotten the next video done. Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGg3UTxfSuk

Keep in mind this is being done on an almost non-existant budget. I will be getting a camera mic soon because I know that will be a big help on the audio. Budget for the microphone will be between $45-$75 I will put up another topic on the microphone before I purchase. What do you guys think?

Would the 17" definitely be better than the 15'?

How would you customize your Macbook Pro? MUST i max out to 8GB? I have an external hard drive at home for storage. Would be nice to have storage for about, I dunno, an hour worth of HD footage in the laptop so I don't have to schlep an external.

Fastest Macbook video card would make sense, obviously.

Any advice?

THANKS!!

I just bought one of these Editing Keyboards sleeves, I had no idea there were SOO many shortcuts. This helps me a great deal to meet deadlines now. I thought I'd share the wealth.

My son and I want to learn something together.  I purchased a iMAC 24" computer.  I am also looking into either Express 4 or Final Cut Studio 2.  We are using Panasonic SDR10 video cams with SD cards because capturing video was a pain on a PC system.  We are both PC users and have never touched this Mac yet.  But, we know PC's really do not handle video well.

What is the best way to learn video editing?  Would the jump to Final Cut Studio 2 be rough for OK for beginners?  Are we missing a lot if we use Flash video over HD if we are just beginning?  If not flash video, what camera format is best No compression? or 720p or 1080i etc?

thx

I am using a GYHD200U, shooting HDV-HD60p and DV60i depending on the shoot. The HDV footage is recording with an extra 12 frames of "Video Only" at the end of each recording stop! During playback and capture, this results in a sort of 'dropout' between clips in the final product. Is there any setting in the camera that would prevent this or is it normal during HDV recording. The DV footage appears to be fine. As long as I am on the topic, I am editing with FCE 4.0.1 and using trial and error to determine which codec to use in the capture process. The AIC 720 30p seems to be the most effective, is there a better one?  This HD / HDV stuff is a bit overwhelming, anyone suggest a site to put it in black and white!!

 Hello everyone,

I am a new film student (as of now I have only taken theory classes, and yet to take a production class).  I am thinking of buying an external hard drive.  It has been a really long time since I have touched anything in relation to film or video editing so I am pretty ignorant to alot of the technology as well as the jargon.

I really want to get more into video editing.  Unfortunately, due to lack of funds, I have to buy my system in stages, little by little, and cannot afford to have 1 system dedicated solely to editing (for now).  So for the time being my laptop will be used for everday stuff as well as learning editing and fufute student video projects.  Here are my computer details:

Laptop - Apple MacbookPro 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4G DDR2 SDRAM, and 250G Hard drive, running OSXÂ 10.5.

For now I only have iMovie, but eventually plan on buying Final Cut Pro.  So for now I am looking for recommendations on an external hard drive.  I know I want at least 1 terabyte of storage.  I am also wondering If it is recommended to get 2 separate external hard drives - one for my media, and 1 for everyday stuff.  In all I'd like to keep my costs down under $600.

As I am new to all of this any comments on what I need or should be thinking about would be welcome, and all advice  would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance,
