Hi All!

This day next week I'll be flying from London to NY, then to LA, Hong Kong, Athens, Rome, Paris and Geneva to shoot a doc.

I'm hoping to just bring all my gear in a carry no case. My only issue is whether security will confiscate my video stabilizer, see here: opteka.com/svex.aspx and a small tripod.
One of the airlines said there would be no problem as long as it fits in case, but my fear lies with security.

Does anyone have any experience carrying stabilissers/tripods on a plane and/or know anything about the security at any of the airports above?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone,

My name is Florian, I'm 21, I'm new here and I'm am found of video (from
shooting to editing). I'm not good enough to become a director I think,
but I practice video at my own level and take a huge pleasure in doing
this.

I have just created a kind of web-tv about a six month trip in East
Asia. On this website, you can follow trips, portraits, cities, clips,
places, parties, etc...

http://www.asiantriptv.com

I hope you will enjoy it !

You can see here one of the videos, this is the portrait of a young indonesian girl shot in Singapore, also student at Harvard.

http://vimeo.com/26861400

Any feedback is welcomed and will help me a lot in my project.

See you soon

I have been asked to provide a quote to shoot a commercial in Louisiana which is 850 miles away and I will drive there so I can take all my gear. My question is, how much should I charge for travel and the time to do so? I don't want to over charge and not get the gig but I do not want to cut myself short either.

I ran across this article by Michell Kanashkevich discussing 5 common mistakes made by first-time Photographers documenting their travels. Having done a fair bit of traveling around 'The Rock' as both a Still and Video Shooter, I fully agree with Mitchell's observations (having run afoul of a couple of them myself) and feel the info applies to shooting video at a higher degree. The prep work required for video is much greater than photography. In spite of the 'YouTube' mindset of 'just shoot it', when you're taking the time to travel and investing in gear to record your journey the diff between 'Tube' video and 'great' video will depend on the extra time and steps you took to prepare. Check it out.

Hello All,

I was shooting stills at a beach here in South Florida recently. I was on a deck shooting pans across the whole beach, which consisted of a lot of young people, both girls and guys, playing volleyball, sunning, surfing, etc. The water and light were perfect, and the colors were just amazing.

About 5 minutes into it, a middle aged woman (in a bikini way too small for her, I might add) came storming up onto the deck, cursing me, calling me a pervert, and shouting all kinds of epithets at me- I thought she might turn violent. Where is a cop when you need one? Anyway, I calmly told her I had a right to be there, and even offered to show here the photos on my SLR screen, if it would make her feel better- of course I had no obligation to do that, but I was taken off guard by her attack. After she felt like she had berated me enough, she returned to her blanket, packed up and left. But I was NOT leaving, not like that.

Her reasoning was that I had no right to be taking photos of people in a public place. I told her she was incorrect- and later found out that the entire beach and the exact place she had been sitting are on a city sanctioned webcam!

Owing to the fact that it is a public beach, covered by a webcam, and I was not using these photos for any commercial purpose, who is in the right here? Was she just jealous of all the younger women on the beach? Is this a case of my civil liberties being violated?

Thanks.

PLEASE CRITIQUE MY TWO VIDEOS. I just found this forum last night, and am new to video making. I truly love it, and want to learn all I can. The tips & tricks page seems to be a really great place to start. I have been learning Pinnacle on my own since January of this year when I have a chance.

I would like to make travel aid DVDS for Tahoe and Reno, etc... for sale on eBay, so, when I do I want them to be high quality with great effects. I would like to speed up my learning process now. I could use anyone's advice, and would appreciate it.

I have a Michael Jordon & Tony Romo video that I need to - hold my breath -Â edit together, and get up for sale. I find the still photo videos so much easier, and just plain fun. Video videos much harder.

Thank you to anyone & everyone who replies back!!

FilmingHolidays on "Become a travel videographer and film holidays and resorts"

I am in the process of building a network of people creating videos for the tourism industry, so they can finance their passion for film and travel. I'm also hoping as more people do this it will eventually become the standard for tourism companies in the same way websites have become the norm, and that means income for people like us, who love travel and film.Â

That's why I wrote a manual so people can become familiar with tourism marketing and producing effective promotional holiday videos that sell more holidays, and all of the elements and the structure of promo videos.

After reading the manual you may then want to create a couple of videos using local operators and accommodations and once you have a couple of sample videos and a showreel for tourism we may then list you on our database for tourism companies and will endeavor to send some work your way or you can start contacting tourism companies yourself  as I have also included a section on how to sell to companies and a list of contacts for interested companies.

Please have a look at http://www.filmingholidays.com for more information and let me know what your thoughts are.

thanks

FilmingHolidays on "Interested in becoming a travel videographer?"

I've been filming holidays for 3 years and I absolutely love it, it's always different and exciting, you meet great people and it's very creative work. After people kept asking me how to do my job I decided to share my secrets with people who are also passionate about travel.ÂÂ

I've financed all of my trips in Europe, Africa and Australia this way and got to go on safaris, trekking tours, adventure holidays, camping trips, stayed in hotels and resorts and all while being paid to film and edit. You can view my videos on http://www.authenticholidayfilms.com.

Creating promotional video for the tourism industry is a market in its infancy, given that only a minority of businesses use video so far, despite the obvious benefits of making holidays more tangible. I would like to make tourism videos the standard, in the same way websites have become the standard for most businesses. For that reason I would really like to see more people filming and selling holiday videos.

Let me know if you are interested in creating promotional holiday videos for the tourism industry or visit http://www.filmingholidays.com for more information. ÂÂ
