I have noticed there isn't much out with the Canon cameras yet. Are there other pro cams that use CF Cards? I know the XH A1S would be much less, but then I'd have to deal with tape path. Currently using 2 Canon XL1s' so I reckon anything is UP!!!

Here on the forum there is a constant stream of posters asking, "What should I do to save my videos?" Now, that's a broad question. But whether you're shooting tape or one of the varieties of 'tapeless' card-based flavors, the issue these days is archiving both for long-term but primarily in the field.

The following article "Blazing a Path in the Digital Wilderness" by Carl Mrozek covers a wide range of areas including; outdoor/wildlife, workflow in the field, storage/power issues and a lot more! Though his work is primarily with P2 based tech (this ought to make Robgrauert very happy), he does talk about XDCAM and other tapeless digital professional formats.

So how can this work for you? Granted you may not be like the featured Cinematographer Dereck Joubert and drop $750k worth of equipment in a crocodile filled river and have to go fish it out, but how he dealt with that and continued on is a great example of what today's gear is capable of.

Anyone gone hands on yet with this SD & SDHC recordable Panasonic? If so, care to share the good, the bad and the ugly? I've read some of the trades articles, and the four-page insert by Panasonic, now I hope for some real life input, or a reality check regarding the unit from an event and commercial production view. As averse as I have been toward AVCHD, this camera appears to have enough stuff going for it that I could be swayed.

I want to put together a sweet little editing/voiceover/podcasting suite in my home. I won't say money is no object, but I'm not a pauper either.

I'm going FCP on the Mac, so that is out of the way. I am also going a tapeless Panasonic workflow. My main target is documentary/corporate and high end web promos.

What I really want to hear more about is opinions on studio audio & video monitors, input/output boards, and mixers for the Mac.

I plan on doing some podcast work, and want to record straight into my Mac. Do you guys use USB/Firewire mic interfaces? A digital mixer? And what kind of mics? I'm looking at either an EV RE20 or Shure SM7.

And any furniture suggestions would help too.
