Hi all,

I just purchased my new SONY NX5U Cam, and I am having trouble with a couple of things.

First, i can't transfer Standard Def Footage to Final Cut for some reason. It just sits there and doesn't read it. It works however with HD.

Second, and most importantly, I need to get the SD footage from the card somehow and transfer it to tape. I need to hand it in this week. Is there some way or how I could dub or transfer to tape from the Camera? If anyone has any input on this, that would be great. Thanks.

When I convert my old VHS and Video8 tapes to digital, they look fine on a regular TV but when viewing

them on my 42 inch HDTV, they don't look very good.

I use a Toshiba DVD/VHS player (model SD-V296KU) hooked to a Canopus ADVC 300 to convert from analog to
digital. From the ADVC 300, the signal goes to Sony Vegas Pro editing software in the PC. After some editing, the result is burned onto a DVD.

What can I do to make the viewing look better on my HDTV. I realize that standard definition cannot
technically be up-converted to high definition but is there some way to make the quality of the picture better than standard definition?

I am making video tutorials that I want to do in standard definition. I am looking for good image quality and I would like a camcorder with good manual controls without having to button poke my way through menus. Good manual focus is important to me and I want real manual exposure not just apeature / shutter priority. I was given a JVC GR HD1U but the SD video quality is worse than my consumer grade Casio camcorder and the JVC does not have real manual exposure. And I only want to spend up to 2K. Thanks in advance for your help. Scott

This may be a dumb question, but can all HD video cameras record in Standard Definition as well? I am thinking of getting an HD camera for various projects but would also like to keep shooting some projects in SD and I don't want to have to down convert everytime. Does the Canon XH A1 shoot in SD?

I've been using AVCHD on my Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder and it transfers just fine into FCP6. However, when I shoot in SD format I go into the "log and capture" screen where I normally transfer my AVCHD files only to find that the SD footage isn't there.

Does anyone know how to transfer SD footage shot on an AVCHD camcorder into FCP6? I've been fiddling around with this problem for awhile...please help. Thanks!
