I am starting a documentary in the next month and am looking into purchasing this or a Canon Vixia Model. I am on a budget, but I can afford about $600 on the camcorder. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this camera for the type of work, interviews and such, as I will require a mic for it.

I'll probably be running Sony Vegas for the Editing software.

Hi All,

I haven't used my Sony DCR-VX2000 for a few years. I got it out of mothballs because I want to make some videos for my business.

The batteries are not charged (no surprise) but I'm having problems with the dc power cable. It is very loose when it's in the DC IN port.

I don't know if I should buy a new one or if that would just have the same problem. Has anyone had this problem and do you have any advice?

I have a Sony TRV27 camcorder that uses a IEEE1394 Firewire connection to transfer my video tapes to the computer. Unfortunately my new computer does not have a Firewire port to connect to. It also does not have a spare PCI slot to add a Firewire card. I'm using Windows 7 and using Pinnacle video software.

Is there any way to download my videos to this new computer? Is there a Firewire to USB adapter available? If available, will it work?

With the HDSLR cameras on the rise in the industry for both video and photography. Im stuck between another sony z5u or a hdslr 5d. Can anyone help me with this by giving me input on the pros and cons between the two. To give me insight on which would be the better purchase. It looks as though the pixels are all there, but very scrambled up and some of the bottom of the image is being shown at the top. Audio is ok. Can anyone advise what is happening and how to fix it? Windows movie maker gives the same result. Computer system is Win7 core i5 firewire. Thanks!

Hi there, new to this forum, hopefully in the future I will be able to help others!

Anyways, I bought a HXR-MC2000E which I intend to use for wedding videos, but on editing with iMovie, I have noticed the .MOV file which iMovie turns the AVCHD into, looks very choppy, which in turn comes out in the final DVD. The cam is recording in 50i which after my research seems to be 25fps. Is this the issue, or am I doing something wrong, or is the camera operating and working as it should?

I would love the video to be smooth after editing, but am I asking too much?

Hello all. I hope this is posted in the right area.

I'm looking for some feedback regarding a camcorder that I will use for indoor shooting of a music performance that will eventually be streamed online. I want to shoot HD at 60p and was looking for a camcorder that would record decent 720p HD since that's probably the end resolution that I will try to stream.

I was originally looking at the Samsung HMX-H200 vs the Sony HDR-CX110. The Samsung records in typical mp4 (H.264) format whereas the Sony records in AVCHD. The Sony records in 1080i, but I didn't really want to deal with interlaced video, so I opted for the Samsung so I could record full 720p 60fps. However, these are both last year's models and this year Samsung has similar specs with the HMX-H300, but Sony threw me a curve ball with the HDR-CX130, which now shoots full 1080p video at 60fps. In my tests with the Samsung HMX-H200, in low light settings I saw more noise with 720 vs 1080, but in very well lit scenes, I couldn't tell much of a difference on my 21.5 inch monitor between 720 and 1080. That said, for my music performance shoot I will have plenty of light, so my question is should I just stick with the Samsung and record 720p 60fps if 720p is my target resolution for streaming this video on the web anyway? Or should I get the newer Sony and record at full 1080p and convert it to 720p in post? I've heard if you record higher quality from the beginning, your results will be better, even if converting to a lower resolution. Also, I've read that the bit rate that AVCHD records at is higher and therefore yields higher quality. But will this higher quality codec and higher resolution even be noticed when compared to 720p footage?

Anyway, I'm at a point where I need to make a decision. I'm weighing the practicality of the Samsung with the possibility of added quality of the Sony at the higher resolution. I just don't know if I'll see that quality if I'm compressing my video for web streaming anyway. Any help would be appreciated, and if you have other camcorder ideas, feel free to mention those as well. Sorry for the book, kind of a simple yet loaded question. Thanks in advance!

I am a beginner. Our video is only seven minutes long, so I don't think actually space on the disc is an issue. The footage was shot in 1080p, and edited with Sony Vegas Pro. Is there a way to keep it at this quality? We aren't sure which options we should choose when rendering in Sony Vegas--we think MPEG2. But we tried that and then we burned it (with Windows DVD Maker) and the video was squished horizontally. What are we missing?

So, sometimes I am a bit confused about the difference between setting up the Sony Vegas template vs. the render settings.

I am assuming that the template is supposed to match my media. In other words, if I shot in HD, I should make sure my template matches those HD settings. If I shot in SD, I should make sure the template matches that such as NTSC DV 720x480.

I am also assuming that you just render to whatever media you want your final project on.

So, in my case, I have footage shot in HD. I want to edit it in Vegas, yet I want to have the option to output it to both HD Bluray and SD DVD.

Is it as simple as me just setting up the template in HD, then choosing to render as either HD for BluRay or SD for DVD? Setting up the template in HD for editing but then rendering to SD will not cause issues will it?!

Many thanks.

<p class="post">

When I drop my AVCHD .mts clips from my Canon HF10
camera into Sony Vegas Platinum
(consumer version), and then use the make DVD wizard, it renders and
then sends my media files to DVD architect 4.5 and then burns my DVD to
look spectacular. This is fantastic because my project I'm working on
is going on
4.7GB DVDs for commercial DVD players or computers. I simply shot in HD
because I wanted the option in the future to burn to Blu-ray, but won't
be doing that as of yet.

I don't want to use Sony Vegas Platinum though....I want more
advanced options and more options later for BluRay, etc etc etc and thus
need to edit, render, send the edited/rendered files to DVD architect
pro 5.0, and then burn to DVD using Sony Vegas Pro, not Platinum.

Sony Vegas Pro does not have this streamlined "make DVD" option like
the nice consumer version does.
After editing in Vegas Pro, I have to manually render my project using
the plethora
of options available, which honestly, I don't know much about. I've
tried rendering using NTSC widescreen for DVD architect (MPEG-2), I've
tried HDV with high settings, etc etc etc and when I drop these rendered
files into DVD Architect, they don't turn out well quality-wise like
they did in Sony Vegas Platinum using the automatic make DVD settings.Â
I
simply want to render these edited .mts files to a format that DVD
architect will like and then burn in high quality so my DVDs look good
on any DVD player with a standard monitor or HD monitor. Vegas
Platinum
does a great job, but it's unknown to me what it is doing behind the
scenes to render my files before it sends them off to DVD architect.
Obviously it works great given my test with Vegas Platinum and native
.mts files, but I have no idea what Vegas Platinum is doing to convert
or render these editing .mts files to make them still high quality and
smooth for DVD architect. I just need to know how to replicate this
process manually in Vegas Pro and I'm set.

So to recap, and in a nutshell, I need to know what render settings
to choose in Vegas Pro after editing my .mts files natively so I can
then send them over to DVD architect pro 5.0 and burn my project to a
DVD without loss of visual quality.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have 20 DVDs worth of unedited .MTS files from a Canon Vixia HD prosumer camera.

I need to edit these using Sony Vegas, which supposedly supports .mts. Within Vegas however, when I preview my clips on the timeline, the quality is terrible. I get a single frame in the window every 2 or 3 seconds making editing impossible. Apparently this is a common problem with .mts.

How do I go about being able to edit .mts in Vegas? If that's not possible, how do I go about converting the .mts to a file that Vegas will support for smooth editing?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running 4GBs of DDR3, a Duo 2.26 Ghz processor, 1066 Mhz FSB, 3 MB L2, 320GB harddrive, and my project files are on external 500GB hard drive. I have the 512 MB NVIDEO GeForce 9600M GT in the laptop.

These must be for professional DVD output, so if I convert, I can't lose any visual quality for when I put them on DVD.

Nobody seems to have a definitive answer thus far...you guys are my last hope!!!!

I was interested in any first hand knowledge about using Sony's Alpha Nex-5. I would be particularly interested in the performance in video capture quality. Also, have you encountered any overheating problems shooting video for longer than 10 minutes per clip (there are reports of this problem with Alpha A55 which also uses the APS-HD sensor)? I have looked at many forums and descriptions and haven't found much hands-on information about video with this camcorder. Thanks for your time and attention.

I have not yet seen any comparisons between these two cameras. I know, they're both brand new on the market and there hasn't been much time to do a real in-depth analysis. So without having them in my hands, here are just a small sampling of the differences I've seen online that might tip the scales toward one or the other:

Price...
Sony: about two grand
Canon: about two grand

Interchangeable lenses...
Canon: Nope
Sony: Yup

Mic inputs...
Canon: 2 XLR's
Sony: single stereo 1/8" jack

How do you make a video for You Tube and have it so there is a live link in the video itself?

I tried hitting insert command then..
Command: URL
Parameter; I put in the website
Comment: I left blank

I rendered it as WMV and uploaded it on you tube and it doesn't seem to be working. Does it need to be rendered differently?

Also it seems like this only sets it for one second were the command marker is. Is there a way to set it up for 5-10 seconds?
