If your project is non-profit, check out mobigratis.com. The composer has made several dozen tracks available for independent/not-for-profit productions just for asking (and production credit) I've used them a couple of times. The hard part was convincing You-Tube that I actually had rights to the track, but we got it straightned out.

AS Craig states, Sonic Fire Pro IS really good - I use it whenever I need exact lengths (to about the second) of really nice assortments of music - They run specials every now and again (like 5 discs of about 8-10 songs each for $100) which make it affordable for everyone (including me). I also love the new scoring edition of the software - Gives me a LOT of control in how the music flows.

Also good was CineScore from Sony - They pulled it (couldn't or wouldn't compete with SmartSound) from the market but I have seen copies of it on eBay - I liked the control it gave (like Sonic Fire Pro) but the music was not nearly as varied or abundant as SmartSound's, albeit I think their interface gave me more control plus it works as a plug-in with Vegas.

I also love Digital Juice's StackTraxx series - They are no longer sold (they might make return special appearances but you'd have to check the website regularly) - Their newer music offerings - MusicBox - are good as well.

There are many other options for RF music as well - A search of these forums will produce many threads with dozens of websites (some good, some awful) with price points ranging from free to hundreds of dollars. Best bet would be to look at as many of them as you can and listen to what they offer and note the price - Then purchase what you a) like and b) can afford.

If you click on the music you want it should ask you if you want to open or save. You can save all the ones you want to a folder first and then "unzip" the mp3 and a readme text file there or to another folder.

Sonnyboo.com has recently re-vamped it’s free downloads for filmmakers and there is a ton of completely free, yet very helpful tools for anyone making movies.

http://www.sonnyboo.com/downloads/filmmaker.htm

MUSIC – 40 completely and truly Royalty Free Songs for production. You don’t need release forms, or to pay any royalties EVER. They may not be the best songs, but it’s free. Egyptian, Rock, Metal, Corny, Silly, Ballad, Jazz, and several other genres are covered, with a few “sound a likes” too. Enjoy.

DOCS – Need a location agreement? Actor Release Form? Budget? Screenwriting Templates?

IMAGES – You can find newly updated to HD images like the FBI warning, ratings, logos, charts, Indian Head-style test patterns, Film Festival Laurel Leaves and more. Even Blu Ray and DVD insert templates.

VIDEOS – Several public domain video clips like a film header, a countdown leader, a “Turn Off Your Cell Phones” video for screenings, and more.

MORE – There are several Storyboard templates, Fonts, Articles for beginners, and more.

Why are we giving away all this free stuff? It’s a promotion for our new feature film ACCIDENTAL ART and we’re raising money, but it’s in no way required to donate to use any of the freebies on the site.

http://www.sonnyboo.com/downloads/filmmaker.htm

Hope some of this helps out people,
Peter John Ross
http://www.sonnyboo.com

umm...i dont think beats per minute is an issue.

The issue when making audio for video is making sure the audio is 48KHz 16-bit. I think a general rule of thumb is to use .AIFF on Macs and .WAV on PCs.

Hi! I perform songs for video production and have doubts about how must I edit my songs so as to be useful for video production, specially when they have to be looped.

A few says ago one of my files was rejected because it has a tempo of 99.9732 bpm instead 100 bpm. How much precise does the tempo must be? Does it really matters?

Do video producers really need the looping properties to be embedded in the file info tags (wave properties)? Like Loop info, Sampler tags...

I have a couple more to think about here:

Ambient Music Garden: Royalty-free ambient relaxation music.

Electronic Music Library: Royalty-free chilled electronic music.

Hope this helps someone :-)
