has anyone had problems updating the firmware on this camera? i was sold class 10 SD cards which the camera can't read. you need class 6 cards to update the firmware. i spent 2 hours trying with no success. if anyone figured out how or why its so hard, i'd love to know
thanks!

Sorry about that. I am using Green Valley's Edius Neo 2.5(Booster) to edit video footage. I have a secondary program by Magix Movie Edit Pro 14, which I used with my previous Panasonic SDR-H60P. I recently acquired the AG-HMC40P. What I need to know is how do i transfer data to the SD card prior to videoing footage? The manual only tells you that you can write metadata to the card prior to videoing footage to indicate who videoed footage, location of videoed footage, and other type of information pertinate to the footage. There is no indication or instruction on getting the metadata to the card. Is there some type of meta software that writes the data to the card itself?

Usually meta data is registered embedded with other signals (video, audio, etc). Meta-data means just "data about other data", so it's extra information related to the main data you are registering and may be in the case of NLE clip descriptions, names, etc. SD cards are just a memory device, so your media software (if able) should register all the meta data with the media in it.

You need to explain more. What metadata you need to register? Which software you use?

Greetings from the road,

Yeah I am currently using Premiere Pro CS4, and still getting used to it, but just completed some freelance work on it and it is starting to iron out. I have been using it since college (5 or so years) and my advice is to just go out and grab some B roll then play around with it in editing (if you have the time) I did that at one point and it really helped because I could focus on playing with controls rather than a deadline or pleasing someone.

As for the camera I have about four shoots under my belt with it now, and still haven't quite gotten the hang of it, I can't seem to get a big offering from the focus, I don't know if my back focus is off or if I am just trying to do something the lens won't do, but almost everytime I shoot a scene I have to reset my back focus to give me the most play.

Anyway, I'm glad you are enjoying it, keep us updated on the work you are doing with it, I'd love to see some footage.

@TDed...I really love the camera. It's a thing of beuty. But, like you, I am pretty intimidated. And honestly, I can not belive it wont let you record to the SanDisk card. The worse thing is we can't find the firewire cable so I'm gong to have to run out and get a new one.

I really just started using it, really using it, yesterday. I got distracted with learning Adobe Premier Pro...talking about intimidating :)

I have a HV30 and love it. The quality of the image will blow you away. It is small and heavy though. Here are a couple of articles I wrote on it. I think you will like the HV30. It is Mini-DV so you will still have to work with tape. I cannot compare it to the HF20 as I don't have one but the HV30 rocks! :-)

Im in the market of buying a HD camcorder and have narrowed it down to 2 models in my budget, The canon HF20 or the HV30. My question is which model will capture better quality? (minii DV or SD card).....

I was told from a tech that the Mini DV's perform better in low light setting in noticeable quality vs SD card based. is that true?

Although i know SD Cards may be faster to upload and more efficient than the Older Tape Technology, im looking for the best quality to play home videos on my HDTV.

Thanks in Advance. -Richard

Yeah the SD card is only for storing your user profiles. The 110 will only record to tape unless you buy something like a firestore hard drive recorder. Hope that helps.

Hi. I am an absolute beginner in terms of video. I was lucky
enough to land the JVC GY-HD110 for my first camera (the university bought it
for me) but I am overwhelmed. I do not yet have a tape but do have an SD Card.
I cannot get it to switch over to record on the SD Card. Can anyone provide
some insight on this?

MsoNormal - Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
