I am trying to get the same exact quality that I see in the preview window after I render it to a mpeg2 or avi. The problem is that I want the grainy film look and other effects to be the same in the rendered final video, but what I'm getting is a crisp video that cleaned up everything. I tried to choose the preview option for the full resolution quality under the file/properties tab but all that did was make it more pixelated and the quality worse but still cleaned up the video. Could someone please help with this? Using Sony Vegas Pro 10 by the way.

Would someone Please help me with how I can speed up my rendering. I use premiere elements 9 and am working on editing a play which is 1 1/2 hr long. When I render it is taking over 35 min and more to complete. I just upgraded my videocard to a 1024mb geforce gt 440. I have 8 meg ram and I am using win 7 home premium 64 bit with a intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz. Is there something I can do to speed this up? Also when moving cut clips around elements is locking up on me. Any help would be appreciated.

navyspecwarfare on "Sony Vegas Project Template vs. Render"

So, sometimes I am a bit confused about the difference between setting up the Sony Vegas template vs. the render settings.

I am assuming that the template is supposed to match my media. In other words, if I shot in HD, I should make sure my template matches those HD settings. If I shot in SD, I should make sure the template matches that such as NTSC DV 720x480.

I am also assuming that you just render to whatever media you want your final project on.

So, in my case, I have footage shot in HD. I want to edit it in Vegas, yet I want to have the option to output it to both HD Bluray and SD DVD.

Is it as simple as me just setting up the template in HD, then choosing to render as either HD for BluRay or SD for DVD? Setting up the template in HD for editing but then rendering to SD will not cause issues will it?!

Many thanks.

So here goes...

I shot an immense amount of footage in AVCHD from a Canon prosumer Vixia. Have 1920 x 1080 .MTS files that now need editing.

Here is the deal though...

I originally shot it in HD, need to first release it in SD due to media prices, but then want the option to release it in HD later when blu-ray discs go down in price. Need to know how to set-up the templates properly in Sony Vegas Pro as well as monitors for editing. A bit confusing for me since I shot in HD, need to edit it but then output to SD, but then need to output in future to HD.

My questions are as follows:

1.

How should I set-up the Sony Vegas Pro template for my project and for color correction? Should I set it up as 1920 x 1080i HD even though it is going out first to standard definition 720 x 480? Or should I set up the template as 720 x 480 standard NTSC? How will the final decision affect future desires to output to Blu-ray as high definition?

2.

How should I set up the monitors for color correction? Should I set up a CRT via firewire so that I can see what it looks like on a standard definition CRT? Or should I output to a 1920 x 1080 LCD computer monitor? Or both? Will color correcting in one format (HD) make it look funky in another format (SD) and vice-versa?

What to recommend since I originally shot it in HD, need to first release it in SD, but then want the option to release it in HD later?

Many thanks for the help; in the gurus I trust!

If I import footage captured on my HDV cam, and set my project properties to DV and edit it in standard def. (for the sake of making editing smoother) can I still render it out in an HDV format so that the end product with be in HD? I'm new to Vegas, and I love it! But the choppy previews and lag are really annoying. Thanks everybody.

H.264 and DV-AVI have saved fine for me (though it took so long) on me seemingly too-slow to do video 1.66GHz dual core system. H.264 embeded in a web page by plug-in form does not allow shrinking to fit. I've never had success saving thirty minutes of footage as a WMV file, however, without the rendering dropping out and turning black and later losing sound altogether after two minutes. It's not just the preview that does this, as the file after rendering shows nearly the same thing. Once it came out of 0.5 seconds of blackness and stopped. During the rendering process, it doesn't even tell me, but just blanks away while rendering.

Is this a problem with the Vegas program, or is it merely my computer, or does WMV not support video lengths this long? Any other format's been successful but this one. still confused.

I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro and rendered an hour long video in both H.264 and MPEG4. When played in a PS3, the H264 played for about 20 minutes then started getting jerky; became un-watchable. The MPEG4 copy worked fine.

I've never had much sucess with H.264 - either in rendering, and now in playing the DVD.

Anyone have any suggestions on other settings with H264, like frame rate?

I can complete a video in powerdirector v8 and burn it to disc. But what I want to do is render the video so I can delete source footage. If I delete source footage now and reopen the project to make more copies, I have missing clips where I deleted source footage. It is my understanding that if I were to render the video I could then delete source footage. So I am asking how to render the video/format and then how do I burn a dvd copy from that rendered file without going back into powerdirector which will pull up the saved version and show missing files?

Hi All.

I'm pretty new to video editing and I was wondering how I should use effects in general. I use Sony Vegas Pro 9.

For exapmle, I have a 15 minute piece of video made up of various scenes...do I render all the scenes first to one file and then re-import the 15 min video as one file , then add my Magic Bullet Mojo effect just once....(and if so what file format should I use?)...or should I add the Magic Bullet effect various times to the individual clips and render the whole thing just once?

Thank you in advance.

With the advent of Adobe's CS line of software (particularly After Effects and Premiere) they have been making a serious effort to place themselves on equal footing with giants like Avid and FCP. Now with the pending release of their new Mercury Playback Engine, Adobe's about to send a seismic level shockwave that the big boys better be paying attention to.

With the Mercury Playback Engine, Adobe Premiere will be able to finally take advantage of powerful off the shelf gamer GPU's and marry them with multi-core CPU's in a 64-bit OS! I could tell you how it looks, but it would ruin the surprise. Instead let Dave Henly show you what's coming down the pike. If it works like the demo everyone from newbies struggling to work with AVCHD to pro's struggling with 4k will be able to benefit! They say it's "to be included in a future release", but it damn well better be in CS5!

I'm about to start a small video business. I know times are hard but if I can make it happen now... I have been offered some corporate work shooting sporting days at a kart race track. As I am new to this as a business could I ask for suggestions regarding the following? I realise quality is an issue, but I am concerned over the massive size of HD files compared to SD. I will be giving my work out on DVD therefore is HD neccessary? I am a big fan of HD, but will the added investment of HD cameras (I'm thinking three Canon HV30's) and probably a serious upgrade to my current PC be worth it? I know HV30's can shoot standard def so they could still be an option with room to go HD later. Another question is regarding mixing SD and HD. If I shoot trackside with HD and say use a helmet cam on one of the drivers in SD, will the difference be acceptable on the final edit? Likewise if due to cost I used an SD/HD mix trackside, how would that look? Finally, I'm trying to cost out the business for my business plan and although I will be at the track for say 2-3 hours, I don't know how long the whole job will take with editing, rendering etc so I'm struggling to come up with an hourly rate! The actual race that I will be shooting will only last about 13 minutes and I will probably have four cameras covering this. Sorry if these are dumb questions!

Let me begin by saying that I'm happy to have found this site as there is tons of very useful information here. I've searched the forums a bit for a problem similar to mine, but i can't seem to find anything similar or I just don't know what the "keyword" is to find that golden thread with my answer. Anyway, I'm having a problem when I import an .avi file and take a clip from it and drag it to the timeline and then render it. It's very pixelated and isn't nearly of the quality of the original video. What setting have I screwed up that is causing this problem? Thanks very much for your help gurus of video.

However, when I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6.0 to render the material I just transfered, there are instances throughout the playback of the video picture flickering black for a second. I am assuming it is movie frames missing. Is there anything to prevent this???

Hi:

I'll be shooting event using two cameras: Sony FX1000 (HD) as main one and Sony VX2100 (SD) as a backup (not to miss anything on stage). This will be my first experience with HD cameras. Then I will conbine both footages in Sony Vegas Platinum 9.0. Eventually I want to produce both versions: SD DVD and HD DVD. Questions:

1) I know that editor can render both footages into SD mode and produce SD mpeg2 file. Any problems, recomendations?

2) I do not know if editor can convert parts of SD footage (very small persentage of the total) into HD output? If yes, will it deteriorate quality of original SD footage?

Thamnk you for help.

In the last few months, Videomaker has published articles on making videos for online publication. The information missing was on the recommended rendering format in order to get the best quality level. I tried 512kbps and even 1mbps videos, but once uploaded look bad on Google's blogs. Vimeo seems to do a better job at their processing. I've seen videos sent out from commercial sites with excellent performance. What data rate do they use. So the questions is:

1. What web sites are recommended for not compressing the hell out of the video.

2. What format is recommended for rendering.

3. What data rate should be used in the rendering.

I use Vegas 8.0 for editing and in looking at the Vimeo recommendations, they say to use H.264 Codec compression protocol, but Vegas has no reference to this item.

I'm sure there is enough unknowns here for a Videomaker article.

Thank you
