Check your autosave vault and see if the latest project has the filter(s) applied. If not, your probably did something wrong. Although, it's kind of hard to mess up applying a filter to a clip.

I'm adding a 3-Way CC to clips in FCP and rendering them out. When done for the night I shut done computer and then open the next day only to find the 3-Way filter no longer attached to clips. 99% sure I save project before shutting down at night. Where could the problem be?

I forgot to mention an important detail. Both versions I was comparing (Vegas 10 Pro and Vegas 11 Pro) were both 64-bit versions - so this is not a 32 bit to 64 bit comparison, it is truly 64 bit to 64 bit comparison.

As for playback during editing, from the amount of time I have been able to use it (have not done a complete project on it yet), the preview seems to actually be able to stay at "Full" rather than having to keep resorting to "Half" like Vegas 10 always did to get the video to play smooth with a couple effects added.

Leapin' Lizards! I just did some speed tests of renders - Results are
posted below, but I will not waste time fully upgrading to Pro 11.

The advertised speed upgrades from Pro 9 to Pro 10 were fairly
minimal in practice, but they definitely found out how to harness GPU
power in Pro 11.

First I took a fully edited and color corrected (short) wedding
ceremony I did earlier this month. My source files were about 75% HDV
(as 25Mb/s .m2t files from my Z5U) and about 25% AVCHD (as 17Mb/s .MTS
files from my NEX5). My destination file was a 16Mb/s .m2ts (AVCHD)
file I use to compile blu-ray discs with.

Using Vegas Pro 10:

Project Length: 0:21:32 Time to Render from mixed AVCHD and HDV sources: 1:32:27

Using Vegas Pro 11:

Project length: 0:21:32 Time to render from mixed HDV and AVCHD sources: 0:43:31

I would guess that if I had straight cuts and not dissolves this
would be a MUCH faster render as it stutters a bit with every dissolve
transition. In any case it was still over 2x faster to render with
Vegas Pro 11.

   2. Second I did a render from one minute unedited clips.

Source file for clip 1 - AVCHD (as 17Mb/s .MTS file from my NEX5) and destination file was a 16Mb/s .m2ts file (AVCHD)

Using Vegas Pro 10:

Project Length: 0:01:00 Time to Render from AVCHD to AVCHD: 00:03:01

Using Vegas Pro 11:

Project Length: 0:01:00 Time to Render from AVCHD to AVCHD: 00:01:19

    3. Lastly I did another render from one minute clips:

Source file for clip 2 - HDV (as 25Mb/s .M2T file from my Z5U) and destination file was a 16Mb/s .m2ts file (AVCHD)

Using Vegas Pro 10:

Project Length: 0:01:00 Time to Render from HDV to AVCHD: 00:02:55

Using Vegas Pro 11:

Project Length: 0:01:00 Time to Render from HDV to AVCHD: 00:01:17

This is starting to be almost rendering at triple speed in Vegas Pro
11 compared to Pro 10 - in fact it seems that AVCHD is well on the way
to be able to be rendered in close to real time. If I had the newest
graphics cards out there, it just might happen. It was not long ago
that rendering DVD .mepg files took far longer than real time to render,
and do not worry about those in Vegas Pro 11. Vegas Pro 11 will create
your 720x480 MPEGs at 3x-4x real time!

For reference, my graphics card is a nVidia 1GB GTX285 - a dinosaur compared to the newest nVidia cards!

"Is it as simple as me just setting up the template in HD, then choosing to render as either HD for BluRay or SD for DVD?"

Yep, it is that simple.

"Setting up the template in HD for editing but then rendering to SD will not cause issues will it?!"

the only issue you might run into is letterboxing because of different aspect ratios, but you can fix that by altering the SD frame size while rendering.

So, sometimes I am a bit confused about the difference between setting up the Sony Vegas template vs. the render settings.

I am assuming that the template is supposed to match my media. In other words, if I shot in HD, I should make sure my template matches those HD settings. If I shot in SD, I should make sure the template matches that such as NTSC DV 720x480.

I am also assuming that you just render to whatever media you want your final project on.

So, in my case, I have footage shot in HD. I want to edit it in Vegas, yet I want to have the option to output it to both HD Bluray and SD DVD.

Is it as simple as me just setting up the template in HD, then choosing to render as either HD for BluRay or SD for DVD? Setting up the template in HD for editing but then rendering to SD will not cause issues will it?!

Many thanks.

Import/Convert Sony SR12 AVCHD Videos export WMV to Sony Vegas Pro 8
Recently I have purchased a Sony HDR-SR12 and Vegas Pro 8 bundle from B&H. When I transferred some HD video, AVCHD to be specifically, to my PC for editing in Vegas 8 Pro I get a "format not supported" error. I just couldn't believe it! If Sony Vegas Pro 8 can not handle 1920*1080 AVCHD videos whey B&H sell the two as a bundle in the first place?
I'm all new to video stuff and editing as well, I just need a simple solution to help me import SR12 AVCHD files to Vegas Pro 8 successfully. I've tried Picture Motion Browser PMB for my editing purpose as someone suggested on some forum, but the software crash so often that I can barely get it to work. From some threads on creativecow, I tried out a program called Aunsoft Final Mate, which is exclusively designed assistant software for HD camcorder users proclaimed by its developer Aunsoft Studio. Honestly speaking, I'm very happy with the result. As far as I can tell, converted videos from Sony SR12 AVCHD 1920*1080 M2TS videos to Sony Vegas WMV(VC-1) format work smoothly on Sony Vegas Pro 8 and there is no degradation of picture quality from naked eyes.

Besides that, Aunsoft Final Mate also allows me to
merge all my AVCHD video clips into one single file on a timeline basis, which have saved lots of time for me.

I recommend this product for people who have similar problems with me about AVCHD importing to Sony Vegas Pro 8. At the same time, try not buy the Sony SR12 and Vegas Pro 8 bundle. Trust me. It's not a happy experience.

Customize preview settings by unchecking automatically adjust preview playback settings. I do that so that I can run previews always at full/best. Make sure you are running at least i7 Quadcore processor at minimum 2.8 Ghz. Make sure you have at least 6GB of at least 1033 or 1333 mhz RAM. I recommend 8+ gigs.

Vegas likes processor power and RAM, not so much video card power. Unfortunately for the latter as I bought a $450 AMD Radeon 5870 when it came out hoping it would add mad power to Vegas, but it didn't. Vegas likes processor and RAM power.

Also, make sure you use three hard drives. One for Windows, one for project media, and one for renders. This will speed things up considerably. If you can afford Solid State...get it.

I advise against RAID and favor SSD instead...I heard that for video editing, RAID can actually slow things down as contradictory as that seems...

Thank you.

I am thinking of doing that rather than upgrade the PC to a new motherboard and CPU.

Is there a list of file types used by Vegas?

Your idea of doing an AVI then re-rendering is a nice idea.

I have a network drive and was thinking of doing the edit on this machine, store the data on the network drive then, do the Render on the faster media PC?

What do you think?

Thanks again

Sony Movie Studio HD doesn't look like it has support for Network. If your other computer has Movie Studio HD installed, then you can render it in a faster, "more raw format" like AVI and send it over for re-rendering.

We would have to see a sample. It's difficult to comprehend what you're describing.

For future reference - the first thing I do when returning to the studio from a shoot is to make a backup copy of the original video. (I also use Sony Vegas which is a non-destructive editor.)

i shot a wedding and edited on Pinnacle STudio 14 and authored on vegas dvd architect and was all ready to send the finished product when i noticed that at the transition point on every clip there is a noticeable blip of static in the audio. when i open the project and play the timeline it is perfect but as soon as i render it the static returns, i have rendered twice with the same result. i'm not sure if this is why, but i had a problem the first time i rendered it where the audio was distorting and i realized the audio levels were set too high, but when i went to change it i discovered that my original project files were gone, i have no idea why or how (a whole other question), but all i had was the rendered file with dodgy audio, so i imported that and muted the audio then laid the soundtrack on the timeline again. like i said, it plays great on the timeline, but once rendered the static returns and i cannot give this to my clients and i am freaking out a little cos i'm running out of time.

PLEASE can anyone help me?

another thing.... if you have the latest and "greatest" quicktime... revert back to version 7.6.2 apple screwed up the works with the latest releases and it doesn't play well with Vegas

do you have the most up to date version of 8.0? Usually, black video would suggest a codec issue.

Yeah. I think that mts files are system hogs. When I edit, I set the preview settings to auto, I disable my internet connection and disable any running functions of norton anti-virus to free up cpu resources. this usually makes editing more bearable. I am running a AMD dual core @ 3.2 ghz on windows xp at 32 bits. So you should see a bigger difference than I do. this should help you.

When adding my m2ts files to Sony Vegas Platinum 9, it appears to stutter during timeline playback and is very slow to render any sort of output file. Have you had similar results? I am running Windows 7 on an i7-720QM platform.
