Hello,

I have to livestream video of a presenter giving a presentation live from the US to an audience in France. I have a Canon GL2 and a video encoder/server. We are going to use livestream.com or a similar service. I have a couple of questions. First, any suggestions for shooting a presentation screen? We will be in a classroom. I should be able to close blinds and just leave the normal lights on. I just do not want the screen to be washed out so that the audience will be able to see & read it well. I need lighting suggestions all the way around, the presenter is very dark complected so I want to make sure the lighting is right so that it complements her as well as the screen. I'm sure I need other tips...Ive never done live streaming before! Thanks so much! :)

Someone above suggested PowerPoint Producer which works well, but Microsoft seems to have lost interest in, and can be a bit buggy. I have recently started using Articulate Presenter and the Articulate suite which publishes everything in Flash and allows you to create looping presentations and customized presentations. It may not be what you are looking for, but worth checking out. http://www.articulate.com

IfTrue Blood Seasons 1-2 you're a fan of Charlene Harris' Southern Vampire series, you were probably a
little disappointed by the first season's adaptation. The problem with season 1
was that it tried to follow too closely to the actual written word, but the
translation from page to screen is always hard to do successfully. With Season
Two, the True Blood cast took a well needed step apart...

I generally use a signal amplifier/splitter, feeding the audio/video signals from both player units into the splitter, the out to the projectors (I have a two-in, four-out unit that allows me to run one signal to four outs, or two signals to two outs, whatever). I always run my audio cables separately, out to a powered Samson speaker system with built-in amp. NOTE: When I do use two projectors (rarely) I only have/use ONE audio source as a rule.

I run into the B&W output situation sometimes but with my S-video cable and not my yellow RCA - the pins on the S-video plugs sometimes get knocked askew and the color part of the signal gets disrupted. I haven't experienced this with the yellow video out for RCA pin plug connections????

Though I have used a dual projector system for showing two separate programs, that is a rare one for me. Usually I am splitting one program, from one output to two projectors for a double screen presentation of the same production. Unless, for whatever reason, the two productions are somehow "married" in content to compliment each other, it would seem distracting to show two different production content to the same audience - unless, of course, you're in a sports bar and the Lakers are playing the Bulls :-)

What playback source are you linking your projectors from? I can't wrap my head around two projectors being used for a wedding montage projection of a single program. If you ARE using a single playback unit, and trying to get double output by connecting the S-Video from the unit to one projector, and the yellow RCA pin plug from the same unit to the other projector, many playback systems only provide a live out from one output source at a time, and that could be (if this is what you are doing) what is interfearing with your RCA out signal.

Two questions: Can anyone tell me exactly how to connect 2 DLP projectors for dvd presentation (it's a montage for a wedding)?

Also, I connected the 2 so far and one is projecting in color (it's connected via s-cable) ; the other one is a RCA yellow only, but projecting in black and white. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance. THis is my first time presenting a dvd this way for 250 guests.

Vegas has some nice transitions built in (think George Lucas wipes) but for some really nice transitions, look at Digital Juice Swipes - they are graphical animated wipes (some with double alpha) that optionally have coordinated sounds with them. DJ just put them on clearance this week at almost giveaway prices (they are retiring the line, along with many other products). You can view them and other products at http://www.digitaljuice.com.

I do training videos, where I use slides as well as video. I started with Camtasia, recording Powerpoint presentations, but the editing was limited and difficult, and I moved to Vegas. In Vegas, I drop images of the slides from the Powerpoint, video clips, and audio tracks. This has worked OK, and is a lot easier to edit.

The problem is that I'm left with still, boring slides. I can't use any of the reveals (like line by line) or transitions in Powerpoint. I see some videos where they have very dynamic slides with all the animation (and then some).

My question is this... what do they use to incorporate slides into their videos, to get professional-looking results without having to screen-record a Powerpoint? Would I use a titling package like Boris Graffiti, or something like AfterEffects? Any other ideas?

Thanks!

With a boot text file (and they're aren't 100% perfect) you can get most computers to open a file and begin playing it. So, for instance, if you had aPowerPoint pres that has all the links you referred to, and you saved it as a .pps, not a .ppt, and burned that and boot ext that says to open that .pps - you'd be set. There are plenty of examples of boot texts on the internet.

If you were thinking you'd like a movie of your slides - the powerpoint conversion you referred to - I use Camtasia to capture ppt, edit and add audio and arrows, and then disperse on CD. Camtasia costs money though. A free Microsoft product called PowerPoint Producer allows you to covert your slideshow into streaming media. My experience with it is that it's easy to use, but it has Microsoft Bloat that makes it useful for for high speed internet, it is faster burned to a CD though.

I've made slide shows in Premiere Pro, not ENCORE, and they come out really nice. I found ENCORE a little buggy in the slide show mode, maybe I didn't understand what ENCORE needed though.

So I think you can use a lot of different software and all you need to do is decide what boot text to use.

But if I'm wrong and you are more concerned about the software here are three links for examples of using Camtasia, PowerPoint Producer and Premiere Pro.

You can see a PowerPoint saved in Camtasia example here http://www.bmidd.com/samples/iccv.php

You can see an example of PowerPoint Producer here http://www.bmidd.com/samples/ppp/ttexcerpt_files/Default.htm

You can see a sample of a PremPro slide show here http://www.bmidd.com/samples/wardrop/index.php - after the 18 second intro click slide show.

Hi all! I need to create a presentation DVD, and am not sure what software would be best for this -

It needs to be a disc that will load up automatically when inserted, has a root menu wil links to seperate files (pdfs, photos, other), and if possible, the software would allow for a fair bit of customisation - it sounds like there should be plenty out there - but I can't find anything quite right, only stuff that allows powerpoint presentation conversion etc. - not ideal. I would've thought even CD burning software tools would come packaged with something like this these days (e.g. NERO etc.)

Any thoughts, much appreciated.
