Youtube won't accept just audio, of course. You're right that there has to be SOME animation. Some musicians I follow just post the song with a picture of them in it. It holds my attention AS LONG AS THE CONTENT IS GOOD (that is, as long as the song is worth listening to). If it's not, then I move on, like anyone else.

I bet the podcasts are similar. Start with something basic and build from there. Add something in each video you post, and pretty soon you'll get handy with it. People will watch it if your content is there.

As for making money, stick with Google and google-related sites like youtube. you have the whole world out there looking for you if you do it right.

Not sure on the eye candy side, but YouTube has sent me those offers before as well. You literally need millions of followers before you make any kind of income, as most people ignore the ads they throw up completely, and clicking on them is required for you to get paid.

Do you know a method that helps you getting more money with podcasts?

other than that, pictures of you or pictures of your subject matter would be good. logos and text are good to add. how about an index of the main subject you're covering?

It should keep the standard youtube user interested. There has to be some animation.

I create podcasts whenever I have something important to say. I gathered a small fanbase already. But I also want to make money with it. I got an email from youtube that I now get a share of adsense revenue there. But my podcasts are audio only. Which quick but at the same time eye-candy ways to create a video around audio can you come up with?

Thanks Chris,

I really liked watching the whole podcast. Even though there were some things that didn't directly interest me it was always fun to watch.

 The tips and tricks was my favorite but the Take 20 was also very educational along with the other stuff. I really liked the outtakes too.

 Maybe we'll get lucky and they will reinstate it.

I liked the longer show also.

The reason there's only "tips and tricks" now is that Videomaker sent out a poll about which section of the show people liked the best. I personally voted for "Take 20", but Tips and Tricks must have been the winner, because shortly after that, the rest of the show disappeared. I don't watch the podcast at all anymore. No more Take 20 ruined it for me. Even if the movies were bad, the reviews were good. If they brought back Take 20, I'd send in my short film - which is coming out soon - for a review.

The poll was the problem. NOTE: Many of the things mentioned in the Video Bits and Bytes section of the podcast are now mentioned in the Video News Blog run by the mag editors. If that what you liked, read the blog.Â

Hi, I'm John Romeo, creator and host of "The Romeo Theater", an online show. In each show we present a short movie, and the director shares a little bit about the story behind it.

I'm always looking for short films to feature on the show! If you'd like to present your movie (under 5 minutes long) on The Romeo Theater, visit the website at http://www.romeo-theater.com and click the 'Submissions' link on the right. I would love to see your stuff!

You can view the show at the website to see how the format works: http://www.romeo-theater.com. You can also 'subscribe' to the show as a video podcast by searching "Romeo Theater" in Apple iTunes. Select shows are also available at my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/TheRomeoTheater

I tried watching the interview with the Director of "Dismal" but I got bored a third of the way through it. I don't know that much about podcasting and stuff, but i would suggest editing other clips and stuff in that emphasizing what he's saying. There was a picture of him working on a model of a head with somebody else and that was good, but I'd have liked more of that.

I would also have liked the whole thing a little shorter.

Just my opinion. I like though that you started a show/podcast like that. I might do that some time.

If you are working in the US, the law governing copyrights and fair use is called, "The Copyright Law of the United States."

http://www.copyright.gov/title17/circ92.pdf

Below is the section of the law that addresses 'fair use'. It is worth reading.

§ 107 · Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use40 Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—

(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;

(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copy-righted work as a whole; and

(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copy-righted work. The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors. Â

But still someone created that music, and owns the rights to it. Taking that without permission and using it is wrong. You still need to get their permission - why not try looking up unsigned artists on MySpace? You'll find thousands who will be very happy to let you use their work for free in return for the publicity.

it should be legal to play that music right? after all, it doesn't affect the economy at all considering that it's free

http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Podcasting_Legal_Guide#Overview_Of_The_Legal_Issues_You_Need_To_Consider.

Just do a search on Google for podcast music legalities. Basically you need the rights to use anything. From what I found about Fair Use, you can use anything as long as the podcast is a critique or focuses around the music used.

Two Misconceptions About Fair Use.

(a) Acknowledgement Is Not Enough. Some authors have the erroneous belief that an acknowledgement will immunize a copyright infringement as “fair use.” This is a myth. Including an acknowledgement may be considered in analyzing the four statutory factors, but it is by no means is a clear defense to a claim of infringement.

(b) Disclaimers Are Not Enough Either. Another point of confusion is whether an upfront disclaimer that denies any association between the podcast and the copyrighted material can protect the podcaster from liability. For example, assume your podcast is a parody of “The OC” television show. You include a disclaimer at the beginning of your podcast in which you state: “This podcast is not associated with or endorsed by Fox Television.” This sort of disclaimer will not, by itself, protect you from a claim of copyright infringement, or act as a clear defense to such a claim. It will, however, be considered among the factors the court considers, and in a very close case, a court may look positively on a clear statement of disassociation.

so my friends and i want to make a music podcast (a video and a audio podcast)

 so is it legal to play the whole song on the podcast? i dont think it is because it would affect the market if enough people sign up... so instead would it be legal to just do like 30 second samples (and giving credit where credit is due)???

thank you
