Try downloading the following file from muvee Reveal help forum:

It prints a list of your installed CODECs to a text file on your desktop. May be useful in troubleshooting your issue. You may have a corrupted CODEC or another program installed an inferior MPEG-2 CODEC.

Sony Creative Software site offers the MainConcept MPEG-2 CODEC for sale if the Adobe site doesn't help.

Did you have any Adobe updates lately that may have caused the problem? Maybe you need to update or reinstall the progrm?

Hi guys, I am a new chap here and having some issues importing my media on Premier. A bit of background I am using Mac 10.7.2 and Adobe Premier 5. Shot my media on a JVC GY-HM100U and it was ingested by copying the whole folder into my computer. My video is 1080 60i the .xml file says:

dataFormat="xdvb"

videoCodec="MPEG2_VBR35M_1920_1080_60I_MP@HL" ch="STEREO_2CH"

audioCodec="LPCM16_48K"

Neither Premier nor imovie can't open the media and the error I get is that the codec is missing. I tried to convert my media using the Video Converter by iSkysoft but the quality decreased exponentially. I also tried Calibrated{Q} XD Decode, but it won't play in real time in Premier and looks choppy.

Went and downloaded the JVC HD pro clip manager but ironically it doesn't recognize the media either and the error is that is not a m4p file. JVC site and other reviews say that there is no need to wrap or transcode and the media formats are compatible with Mac which is false or I am missing something.

Does anyone have any advice how to get around this issue? Your thoughts would be highly appreciated!

There are a couple of ways to put HD on a DVD. None of them will play in a conventional DVD player.

Some very small number of regular DVD players have supported alternate formats, including HD, but this is very specific to your player. The more common formats here are DivX-HD and WMV/HD. DivX-HD is just a DivX file authored at standard bitrates specified by DivX, Inc. They work with hardware manufacturers to ensure compatibility. WMV/HD is a fully authored format, based on specs defined by Microsoft, using HTML and Javascript. There's virtually no authoring software, though, so it's a bit of hand coding. I had a player that played both of these types, before real HD standards emerged.

Aside from that, you need a Blu-ray player or PC to play HD video. Most Blu-ray players support the AVCHD format on DVD, which is a subset and slight mutation of Blu-ray. This was created by Sony and Panasonic for DVD camcorders, but you can put your HD videos on AVCHD disc and expect them to play in most BD players and many PCs. The main limitation is that you must use AVC, not MPEG-2 or VC-1, and the bitrate should be below 18Mb/s.

I've dropped discs and only do standard def dvd when specifically asked to do so.

I was the first hd shooter in my area, and as an early adopter, the first solution I found is still the best...

appletv or other such hd streaming device direct to tv from computer ( there are several options). 720 p is actually hard to tell from 1080 on large screens unless you got your face up to the display for pixel peeping, but for most people from a normal viewing distance, thier eyes cannot resolve the differences between them. Heck half the peiple out there cannot tell upsampled dvd from 1080p on a 40 inch flat panel from seven feet away.

I never went blue ray and do not regret it.

Hi,

I mention that using a movie less than 30 minutes length you burn a Blu-Ray type on a DVD blank and you use a Blu-Ray player. Personnaly I not test if I create a Blu-Ray image less than 4,7 gig and copy this disk image to a DVD. My software can do it without problem.

May be somebody can test this.

You can burn it to a regular DVD disc but not as a formatted DVD. You'll have to just burn the file to the disc. Sorry. DVD players will not read the disc.

Hi,

I am use Magix Edit Pro 17 Plus version I can burn the AVCHD Blu-Ray on a DVD the program offer this option.

To do so you must respect 2 conditions:

1) The maximum project length is 30 minutes or less.

2) Need a Blu-Ray burner on the computer and on your TV need a Blu-Ray player.

Main advantage is the cost of media $0.50 for a DVD compare $2.50 for a Blu-Ray and more easy to find special inkjet DVD to print direct on than Blu-Ray.

Main disadvantage is poeple try to play a Blu-Ray with a regular DVD player and this not work.

How to find a solution to this problem.

I continue to burn DVD top quality to a DVD disk because if you move to quality to 14 and bit rate very high on a TV like a 50 or 52 inches the quality is about 80% of a Blu-Ray naturally B-R offer more detail and crystal colors but pusking to the maximum the DVD quality can avoid B-R media costing too much for the moment and incompatibility.

You have to tell Vegas that your video is in 16:9, both while editing and in your DVD burning suite.

If you want the High Definition option, you'll have to burn it in AVCHD to DVD, where some Bluray players will allow you to play back the footage. Sony Vegas won't do this on its own, so you'll need a DVD client that is capable of burning AVCHD discs, such as Nero Burner. Most bluray players don't even support 1920x1080p60, but most will support the playback of 1920x1080p24.

From my experience, much of the advice, given above, is very sound. Good quality mpg2 is able to foot-it with many more hyped-up formats. However, setting the variables as high as you can, makes a lot of sense. I have burned my stuff for years on the second-highest 'quality' settings and with a maximum bit-rate of 9200, with footage of 720 x 576 (16:9 widescreen format). From my reading-up on such matters, that just squeaks in at the upper-end of DVD compatibility, if the lower bit-rate is allowed to 'float'. The settings it takes up might seem alarmingly low at the bottom end-of-the-scale, but that is governed by contingencies and the nature of the footage being processed, the needs of more 'static' footage being much less, of course. After-all, most video formats only process the differences between frames (the 'B' and 'P' frames), while the scene is re-established, each 12 to 15 frames, by means of the 'I-frames'. So, my advice, (for what it is worth), see what the slowest processing option on-offer is, and give it a try. The assumption being, that the slowest and least convenient way of going about things, is usually the best in-the-end, with video.

For my own part, I produce my finished features in both high-quality 'avi' and 'mpg2'. The mpg2, for home consumption, the 'avi' (strictly speaking smart-rendered in the DV-AVI package), as a hedge against 'contingencies', for the future. As I think I may have mentioned on another thread recently, I have 96 DVD's of DV-AVI footage which I am editing my way through, some of my early footage, of historical events shot originally on 16mm film in the 4 x 3 aspect-ratio, have been cropped and re-stretched to 'widescreen'.

By the way 'Signmax', I use Magix 'Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus' for all of my work, currently; in preference even, to their own VSP-1.5, which I also have. A great piece of software at the price, which has me constantly wondering 'how-they-do-it'.

Do you have DVD Architect Studio? This one is Sony professional version of DVD authoring (it also works with Blu Ray). I read about Windows DVD Maker and it said that it support over 60 video formats. My advise is to try different video formats until you find one that works best. I would start with uncompressed AVI or WMV, setting the features at the highest possible resolution and Variable Bit Rate 2 pass encoding. I recommend investing in DVD architect Studio because it will give you a lot more options and the interphase is almost identical to Vegas.

Sargehero -- Thanks.

So, burning to a DVD is my only option.

So, starting with 1080p footage, we rendered our project (using Sony Vegas) as MPEG-2 under the DVD NTSC template.

We then burned with Windows DVD Maker. The quality is questionably low (even though we knew that it would be reduced). Our principle concern is that the audio is now at least a tenth of a second off.

Does the problem lie with Windows DVD Maker? Are there other options (or general tips) we should be aware to preserve some of the quality and fix the audio problem?

DVD is 720x480. In order to burn 1080p you need a Blue Ray disc and a software with that feature. For the video format MPEG2 DVD works best.

I am a beginner. Our video is only seven minutes long, so I don't think actually space on the disc is an issue. The footage was shot in 1080p, and edited with Sony Vegas Pro. Is there a way to keep it at this quality? We aren't sure which options we should choose when rendering in Sony Vegas--we think MPEG2. But we tried that and then we burned it (with Windows DVD Maker) and the video was squished horizontally. What are we missing?

Today, I was cleaning up files on an old hard disk. In it, I met again many softwares I used to be using during last decade. ACDSEE, PHOTOSHOP, ULTRA EDITOR and many others, some of them are still my favorite tools today.

Watch the Windows Vista I am using now, what a similar looking between the explorer and the old ACDSEE classic. The so called thumbnail-view layout, which I first saw in ACDSEE classic, is nowadays a most common user interface standard.

Thumbnail-view is not the only strong point that ACDSEE holds.
ACDSEE is still the best when the image browsing speed is measured. That's why I am still using ACDSEE as my picture browser, although the Windows now can do it natively(but slowly). This shows, there is always a chance to survive for an unique technology, like the image browsing speed of ACDSEE.

On the contrary, when we turn to the speed of video browsing, ACDSEE falls into the common category of DirectShow filter based applications. ACDSEE does not decode video itself, so its video browsing speed is limited by the DirectShow.

This gave an opportunity to the video manager I am using now, the Smart Mate for DV and DVB.

Based on special video technology from FameRing, Smart Mate for DV and DVB is 20~30 times faster than DirectShow based softwares when browsing and taking thumbs of movies.

I have a Hauppauge HD PVR DVB Box with a tuner installed on PC. I've recorded about several hundreds of H.264/AVCHD movies on my hard disk. They are .ts files, aka transport stream. Every now and then, I need to organize them, search them, bookmark them, share them with my friends. Just like what I did to my Jpeg photos. Further more, I want to edit the movies, like cutting commercials out of them, this leads to the most valuable part of Smart Mate for DV and DVB. It has the world's first H.264/AVCHD/MPEG2 frame accurate cutter without re-encoding.

Smart Mate for DV and DVB not only supports frame accurate cutting on H.264/AVCHD/MPEG2, but also does it in a fastest way. It only re-encodes the gop on start point and end point, middle part of movie remains untouched. This gives the highest speed cutting while reserving highest video quality. So called, "Smart Cut".

If anyone else needs an easy but professional management solution for H.264/AVCHD/MPEG2 movies from Satellite video receiver, DVB HD PVR, DV Camcorder, or INTERNET, the Smart Mate for DV and DVB is the software you must have. FameRing also has video manager for all popular formats, called MovieShop, I was only using the version customized for H.264/AVCHD/MPEG2.

Come back to the ACDSEE, it will always be my image browsing tool, but not for the video browsing and managing.

To me, the Smart Mate for DV and DVB is an alternative to ACDSEE on video files. That is why we like competition, which gives us more and more better softwares.

May be some time later, Windows will be able to browse H.264/AVCHD/MPEG2 .ts movies natively(cuts frame accurately? I do not think so), like the thumb-nail view it learned from ACDSEE. But it will never be the only software left, because the unique technology always survives, as it is unique. The customers will always have alternative and better choices.

First of all you might want to try PSD images if you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
Adobe products like PSD a little better than any other format.

Then, I just don't understand why there is a problem. From what you have said everything should look really good.
How are you burning to DVD? Have you tested burning to a DVD?

9 is the highest setting for DVD and should be fine for any DVD production. Maybe you can tell us a little more about your project because something sure isn't right and it doesn't have anything to do with the export format.

Yeah i realize it has to be TV resolution of 720 by 576 or less, my problem is that even when i shrink down my PNGs to that resolution they still don't look as bad as when they've gone through MPEG encoding. I wish Blu Ray was the standard now, can't wait for the future.

You should check the export settings for your video file or DVD production. All content that is imported will be converted (or stretched) to the resolution of your production settings, despite the original quality of your stock footage and/or pictures. Try to avoid shrinking your pictures unless you have to. The quality of the DVD conent can also be set (HQ, SP, LP, or EP) with most DVD authoring software. The resolution, however, always stays the same - 720x480. This only changes when it is viewed on Standard (320x240) TVs.

<p style="padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 10px;">Hi, I was wondering if someone could please give me some advice on MPEG encoding in Premiere Pro CS3. I'm using the standard MPEG 2 DVD when exporting my movie (which is made up of PNGs 1024 x 576), the problem is its just compressing my movie way too much.
Even when I shrink down a single PNG image to 720 by 405 they still don't look as bad as when converted to MPEG format. Even when I export it to MOV from Aftereffects its still not as compressed, but i need to keep the MPEG format for a DVD.
My movie is only 1 min 40 sec,roughly 50mb I've got 2 other things to go on the DVD which come to about 800mb all up, so I've still got 3.9gb unused which I'd rather use to maximise the resolution of my movie.
I could increase bit rate but apparently most DVD players can't handle higher than 9, surely there must be some way i can get better picture quality?
<!-- End of post content -->

Thank you Brandon!! On my other post with your answer I thanked you all over the place!! You are a life saver!! Could you tell me though two things about the program: 1. After the 30 days will the file converter tool be left in use? 2. And all my MP3 file icons turned to the Windows Media Player icon, why? If you can answer, thanks ahead of time! Barbara

Before I answer, let me make sure of a couple things:

1. Are you exporting a video in MPEG4 then putting that into the conversion software?
2. Or are you exporting just the audio line of the video as some random audio format like PCM,WAV,etc?

In answer to your question regarding all of your MP3 icons changing to Windows Media...

Just follow these instructions to change it back to what ever it was before.

Open a folder
-> Click "TOOLS"
-> Click "FOLDER OPTIONS"
-> Click "FILE TYPE" tab
-> Scroll down the list till you see MP3.
-> Hightlight it and click change (to change the program associated with that file type).
-> Then click okay and that's pretty much it.

Regarding the 30 day trial...

The audio file conversion still works after the 30 day as do most of the basic normal functions. Since I think you are converting a video file to extract the audio, I'm not sure about that functionality. I've never tried that before.

THe advanced features cease to workafter the 30 days. But I'm not sure if that is considered an advanced feature.

Hope this helps.

This website has pretty good software. This is what I have used for the past 3 or 4 years to convert audio. It's free, although there is a pay version. After 30 days, some of the features are taken away, but the basic conversion tools continue to work fine. Like I said, this is what I always use.

 Is there an "export" option under the File menu? I would imagine you should be able to convert/export as quicktime and then adjust options in a dialogue box to get an aiff or wav. That's how I'd do it with Final Cut.

That's the best I can do, I'm not familiar with Pinnacle. Sorry.
