For all those curious about The Hobbit, using the RED cameras (LOTS of them) in a 3D production and green screen stuff, check out this update from Peter Jackson. I found it quite interesting and informative. Sure gets the jealousy thing going regarding equipment. Awesome link shared via MSN.

Normally I post stuff shot by professional shooters. Every now and then an ammy or intermediate gets my attention and I think their work is definitely worth a look. "Keira in the Park" is typical of what the average VM hobbyist is trying to shoot, home movies of the kids. Using a Nikon D90 filmmaker and Keira's father Trin has made quite the cute little film with the help of some advanced techniques using both steadycam and dolly rigs. Let me know what you think.

MovieScreams Horror Fest is now open for submissions. We are seeking short horror films and trailers from independent filmmakers. MovieScreams Horror Fest is an online horror festival and cable Television series dedicated to the screening of independent and classic horror movies. This is a Public Access Television series. Airing Sundays at Midnight. Comcast Cable channel 24 - People TV in Atlanta, GA.

Inspired by the passion of independent filmmaking! MovieScreams, features short horror films by those brave enough to grab a video camera and make their own movies. Any film between 1-30 minutes will classify as a short. This is not a contest so no entry fee is involved. There is no deadline.

Submitting a horror film to the MovieScreams! Horror Fest is free. Simply email us the video link to your film, along with the title and synopsis. If selected it will show up in the list of films on the main page of our website. We promote the horror film genre and provide a platform for filmmakers to screen their work. Film festivals have always been very supportive of alternative and fringe indies. Unfortunately, the horror genre often get left out of festival programs. How will we discover the next Peter Jackson if festivals do not support young filmmakers who create fantastic visions?

Does anyone know what has to be done in order to make a movie that is 'based on a true story'? Do you have to get permission from the person or people who it is about or anything like that? What about if it was 'loosely based' or 'inspired by' a true story (like adjusting the story, changing the names, and loosely following the real story)?

Hi, I'm John Romeo, creator and host of "The Romeo Theater", an online show. In each show we present a short movie, and the director shares a little bit about the story behind it.

I'm always looking for short films to feature on the show! If you'd like to present your movie (under 5 minutes long) on The Romeo Theater, visit the website at http://www.romeo-theater.com and click the 'Submissions' link on the right. I would love to see your stuff!

You can view the show at the website to see how the format works: http://www.romeo-theater.com. You can also 'subscribe' to the show as a video podcast by searching "Romeo Theater" in Apple iTunes. Select shows are also available at my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/TheRomeoTheater

Don’t just watch the films. Be a part of them by producing a video for the 2008 EPFF YouTube Challenge!

The challenge is simple. Create a YouTube video promoting this year’s Estes Park Film Festival, and the video with the most viewings by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7 will be the recipient of two All-Access Gold Passes (valued at $200) to the 4-day Festival.
Â
Here’s how to play:

1.) Research the upcoming Estes Park Film Festival by visiting http://www.estesparkfilm.com , and also click on “Past Festivals” and see what’s been done in the past.

2.) Check out http://www.YouTube.com/epfilmfest to watch the previous promos for the Estes Park Film Festival, and also do a search to see what other festivals across the nation are doing.

4.) Create a short video that would be :30 seconds or less. Edgy videos are good, but please no curse words or explicit content.

5.) After your video is posted to YouTube, please send an e-mail to Sean Doherty, Executive Director, sean@estesparkfilm.com , by August 15 and you will receive an email confirmation letting you know of your entry’s acceptance into the contest. Please put “YouTube Challenge” in the e-mail subject line. Each submission should include the user name, video title, and YouTube link.

6.) All submissions to YouTube must be posted by August 15. Remember, the festival begins on September 11. Which means the sooner you post your video, the more “views” you’ll have an opportunity to get.

7.) The producer of the video with the most viewings by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7 will be the recipient of two Gold Passes (valued at $200) to the 4-day Festival which includes the following benefits:

All-access seamless experience to the Festival

Priority Seating: First admittance to all Festival films

Admission to Opening Night Gala on the 12th , and Awards Gala on the 14th

Swag Bag: Exclusive limited edition commemorative merchandise, drink vouchers, and sponsor coupons.
