Another handy (and cheaper!) backup device is the Sanho HyperDrive Colorspace UDMA. They come in capacities of 120GB to 640GB (the 640 you have to buy from the Hyperstore). Neat thing is it does much of what the Nexto does and has a feature so you can write scripts on the controller which is good for telling the unit how to separate your RAW files from everything else. The drawback is it doesn't have the extended range of card interfaces as the Nexto and you can only backup about 250GB's per battery charge.

On the otherhand, if you're not working with RED, P2 or SxS anyway that won't be an issue. Take a look:

There have been a number of products coming out lately that deal with the number 1 issue concerning Flash Media in the field. Yeah, solid-state cards are great since you don't have to digitize the footage but when they fill up you have to take time to download them or buy a buttload of cards which can get expensive.

Videographer Paul Joy's video review of Nexto's latest answer to this problem answered a lot of my questions about the rig and as I move further into a solid-state workflow, I see this on my list of future purchases.

Wright,

There are buttloads of blank media outlets. You'll just have to wade through them. Some good outfits I've dealt with are: uline.com, usaplastic.com (for cases) and shop4tech.com.

I make roughly 300 DVDs per year, authoring on DVD Studio Pro, and printing with an Epson ink-jet printer. My question is if anyone can suggest a place to buy top-quality (TYG01) Taiyo Yuden discs.

I have been using TYG02 quality, the best quality that I have been able to find, from Supermediastore.com, and have had reasonably good luck avoiding quality issues like skipping or hesitation. (I have found from experience that anything less than TYG02 will give me problems (on my cheap "test" player - I have to assume some of my customers will not have the best players). However, on long programs (approaching 2 hours on a disc), I still have some occasional hesitation.

I encode using Compressor, and never exceed 7 MBps encode rate.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Maybe you need to render out your edited audio to AVI instead of importing the projects. You may not me able to import because PROj files are not supported.

Just a guess. I know nothing about Premiere, but rendering your edited stuff usually helps. Then import the edited stuff. Just remember to give it a different name from the original unedited audio so you know which files you want.

First time using Premiere Elements 3.0 and everything is going well, except for one problem. I uploaded 4 DV tapes

from a recent trip. I have edited each tape/file individually and now I want to combine all 4 tapes/files into one

movie/file. I will then do a little more editing and export to DVD. The problem is that when I create a new project,

the (PROj) files of the edited tapes are invisible so I can't add the edited files to the new movie. The original

AVI files are visible, but I don't want to add those! Any advice is much appreciated.
