I am looking for a camcorder to record my son's high school basketball games. Here are some of the features I'm looking for: a) wide angle lens; b) that takes good quality videos in low light; c) records in HD; d)) records onto a card and/or internal memory; e) a large, easy to see LCD; f) a relatively big camera for my big hands; and g) less than $2k. What do you pros and serious amateurs recommend, please?

Thanks in advance. Charles.

I shoot video in the clubs and most of the time i use either the hvx 200 or the canon hfs 20. i have no problem with these cameras wen it comes to digital noise due to low light. However, wen i attempt to use the 5d mark 2 no matter what i do, i always seem to get plenty of noise in the video, i see ppl use the 50d 60d and the 7d, i dont know how their footage comes out b.u.t im assuming its coming out better than mine. when i had this problem with the hvx or the hfs i just limited the agc to 9 and that solved the problem, no more noise. i dont know how to resolve this issue with the 5d it seems that the camera is boosting the iso or sumn in order to compensate for the low light however its just making things worse with the noise. Can someone pls help me????????

Hello,

I am completely new to video editing, and I started by buying a panasonic sd 90 which was what my current budget would allow me (+ batteries sd cards tripods etc).

Before purchasing I read some reviews (all where good to excellent) and I researched some sample videos online, all of which looked pretty good for a cam of this budget.

Now that I use it though, have noticed that the camera produces allot of noise, even in bright light- which is not very visible after the video is compressed, so I did not notice on the samples I watched online. Videos taken after dark, even in relatively well lit environments (such as bussy bar streets) are pretty useless. Is this normal for such a camera? I am bluffed because I thought it would produce at least decent videos.

Thanks allotÃ?Â

i do videos, not photo so i'm looking to upgrade my equipment. so far, even with my old small chip hmc70, it has performed really well, SO LONG AS there was a spot light in the event, which many times they did, or outdoors. lately, i've been shooting more no light club scenes and so it's time to upgrade.

5D can be expensive. so i'm wondering if i settle with a GH2 w/ a strong on camera spot light (long distance and wide angle), will the image be as good as Canon 5D mark ii?

i know GH1 is hackable and 5D mark iii comes out in a few weeks. but by the time i have enough money to upgrade, hacks may become obsolete or blocked, the later manufacture GH1 may be hack-proof, and in a few weeks, the 5D mark ii users will sell theirs for mark iii's.

i like 5D mark ii only for low light. ....but....
i like GH2 for continuous shooting, swivel LCD, crispness in details, 60fps for smooth speed adjustments, smaller to run with, and potentially hackable. (so i'm hoping to get compensate for lowlight with a strong enough on camera spot light)

budgetwise, GH2 + strong spotlight will probably cost the same as a 5D mark ii. but the other GH2 features are also important to me. what bother me is the GH2 smaller sensor. is it worth loosing all the other features for better low light? or can i compensate the low light with spot light.

lens, i'm already looking at the 14-140mm range, or canon 18-200mm or 24-105mm (not too familiar with canon lens yet).
speaking of lens, know fast lens can really produce well and enhance quality as well. GH2 has a f/.95 lens out.

Hey Everyone!!!

So sorry, if this is already posted somewhere or is under the wrong heading...

Okay so I'm an actor and photographer, but I am directing a music video for the first time. It's a group of 4 girls, one of which is a close friend of mine (kind of a pop feeling song). I don't doubt my abilities to execute it well, but some "experience" questions have come up in my mind and the answers are only in experience which I don't have so here I am...

Shoot Details:

Theme: The elements. 4 locations a forest, a girl in the lake, a meadow with horses, and a beach with fire pockest in the sand.

Length: 3 days

Budget: Max $5000

Shooting Equipment: 2 Nikon d7000s, a merlin (or some other steady cam), a jib arm, a dslr dolly, maybe 2-3 lights (need advice on that), and a ring light

crew: me and a friend

Questions lol...There's an element of mystery to it so we want low light therefore, dusk and dawn...my concern is the lack of time I will have to get the shots done...any thoughts on how to maximize my time? (regarding light)

2. In case it runs into the peak of the day, what can i do to make the daylight match that of dusk/dawn.

3. Any suggestions on lens filters?

4. Focusing...everything manual I prefer it...though I'm concerned about the camera on the arm, should I rent a focusing device for that? Or maybe just use a small aperture? Because the shot will probably be of the 4 of them and will be from a distance...

Lastly, the girl in charge is covering all costs and I'm trying to limit their costs, I'd rather put the money into the production and make it look really good, but I know I should get paid something lol...how much for my friend and I? Don't get too complex about that, just throw some numbers at me (final numbers or percentage) p.s. we won't be editing...

Hello,

Ive had a canon 7d for a while now but never really done any video work in low lit conditions inside a nightclub. Im looking to get into promotional nightclub videos and i've seem some videos which i love and would like to know how to go about getting a similar look.

Firstly whats the on board lighting that will light up my shot and not blind people. ?

What are the recommended ISO settings, shutter speed, aperture, i have the 50mm 1.4f canon lens this is the one i would like to use for the shallow depth of field, but ive read elsewhere that the aperture should be over 3f?

Here is an example of the look i would like what settings do you think has been used here, and how do they get that purple colour tone into the video ? Is it a magic bullet plugin done in post ?

the video link is - http://vimeo.com/14926317

any help or discussion about nightclub indoor video shooting would be much appreciated..

Thank you kindly

I film hunters from a tree-stand in the woods. Animals usually appear at dusk or in early morning darkness. Lighting is a real problem. Have tried used the automatic setting mode for Night but the results appear as "jerky" movements...just NOT good enough! Can anyone give me suggestions about solving this lighting problem? Thanks, in advance, for your thoughts & ideas.

I shot a sequence for our online how to series and while shooting didn't realize the back lighting was wreaking havoc with my light metering on the camera. The stuff I show can't be replicated. What can I do in Adobe Premier Pro CS4 to compensate for the light "whoptydoos"

My first thought is to go in and use a brightness contrast filter, but in the past I've noticed flickering when I've done this technique. Any Ideas?

I currently shoot fitness videos using a Sony PC1000 and display them on YouTube. Since these videos are shot inside of a gym, light is minimal and I'm looking to upgrade to a Sony VX2100 because of all the great reviews I have read about its low light performance. With my PC1000 I have to brighten up all my videos about 35% in Premiere. I have found a used one for $1200 from a local private party and would like to get some feedback from VX2100 owners. Will upgrading make a noticeable difference? Thanks.

Hi, I am new to the videography world, and I have been post editing since January. My buddy let me use his JVC GZ-HD7U hard disk video camcorder. I have been using for the last 2 months. I am real comfortable with the controls for the most part. The only thing that I do not like with it is the indoor shooting with low light is not very good.

So I am in the market to get a camera soon to do weddings, indoor events like concerts and action video. My 2 questions are:

 1. Should I stay with a hard disk DVC or go with Mini-DV media?

 2. What DVC would help me out on the indoor or low light problem?

I am trying to stay in the under $1000 range but my budget can be at about the $1500 or so price range. I see that the GZ-HD7U can be had for about $600, but I wonder if there is something else out there that can work for me.

thanks for the help,
