Nowcomer to video editing - How can I produce and burn the best possible quality DVDs (not AVHCDs or BDs). I can produce and burn excellent quality short videos to DVD when burning in AVCHD format, and that plays well on my desktop computer and on the flat screen TV, but it won't play on my lower powered laptop computer, which is probably similar to what friends and family have. Videos which I burn using the DVD format will play on the laptop, but they're horrible - extremely noisy, even somewhat pixelated. Adding video denoise suppresses some noise, but destroys most details. I'm using Cybelink Power Director 10 as the editing program - very happy with it.

Hi guys. I'd like to buy a laptop to use primarily for hd video editing (1080p AVCHD from my Panasonic HDC-TM90K camcorder). I'd like to use either Adobe Premiere Elements 10 or PowerDirector 10. My hd video editing is for personal/family videos, not professional, but I still want respectable quality.

My question is, what should I primarily focus on when selecting a laptop for running this? Â From what I've researched, it looks like a fast processor, hard-drive speed, and good video card should be my main concerns.

This is going to replace my aging hp desktop. My price range is around $700-800. I've looked at the spec page on the Adobe and PowerDirector websites. I'm guessing these are minimum requirements though. I don't want something that will just "work", but take forever to render. Final video lengths will typically be from 5 minutes to about 2 hours max.

I'm thinking something like these two...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006550%2050001259%2040000032&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&CompareItemList=32%7C34-230-131%5E34-230-131-TS%2C34-214-486%5E34-214-486-TS

My biggest concerns are: is 6 GB enough RAM and will the Intel Integrated HD Graphics card (on the Toshiba) work as well as the dedicated NVIDIA Geoforce GT-540M card (on the Asus)? The Asus also has a bit less memory and no blu-ray player (not a big deal). I may play some games on it, but the main purpose is for HD video editing, web-browsing, Word programs, etc... Oh and they both have 5400 RPM hard-drives instead of 7200 RPM.

Does anyone else here use a laptop to run Premiere Elements? If so, what kind of system do you have?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Joe

Hello everyone

I'm new to this forum. Need your advice on the best pc laptop to edit semi-pro videos. I am a church pastor and do tons of videography. I have a budget of $2,000 for the hardware. Am using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14 and/or Sony Vegas HD (not the pro software) for edits. Suggestions for laptop? Toying with either an ASUS or MSI but need help as to configuration of the hardware. Thanks for all your advice. Can't go Mac hardware because my church is pc orientated and need to use the laptop for MS office stuff too.

Hello,

Advice sought: Least expensive PC for video editing programs

I am seeking help finding the least expensive PC laptop capable
of running Pinnacle Studio video editing programs. I'm on the low income side
(especially after becoming unemployed) so I am working with modest equipment.

Because I am couch surfing, I need to stick with a laptop,
not a PC.

I've tried several other editing programs such as Vegas,
Adobe, etc., and I've tried iMovie on the Mac. Pinnacle works best for me. My
current laptop, a Dell I bought in 2009, cannot handle my HD video editing. I
am using a Kodak Zi8 camera.

The system requirements are at: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/

There are three main versions and all 3 appear to have
different requirements:

Studio HD, Studio Ultimate, Studio Ultimate Collection

The graphics card requirement is the same for all of three.

I'm a quick learner on my own how to use document, photo, and
video editing programs for creative purposes. I am however clueless about the
tech stuff.

I am getting unemployment checks and money is tight. However, I believe in myself enough to take a gamble and spend up to $1,000 on a laptop. I need help though because I'm not good at the tech stuff and don't want to get ripped off at the stores.

So far, Best Buy, Fry's and my computer savvy friends have all recommended different machines. I'm hoping that at some point I'll hear the same recommendation a few times. At least at Best Buy and Wal-Mart there are no re-stocking fees.

Thanks! I appreciate your time and help,

The time has come (unfortunately for the company wallet) to get a new laptop for field production and client presentations. Other than the cost of the new unit, there's software and accessories. The most important accessory is the bag to carry the thing in.

Now, getting a bag you would think wouldn't be that big a deal what with vendors in the numbers rivaling the 'Hoary Hosts' (See Thor Comics for reference.) But, in my zeal to find a laptop that both fit my requirements and visual sensibilities I settled for a large screen (18.4") to be exact. Of those vast number of bag manufacturers, I have only found 4 that have a product that will accommodate the new rig.

The most interesting one is an outfit called Timbuk2. They have an interesting hook to their products as you can literally design the look of your bag. Now, they don't come cheap as the one I priced out was $110 (the more elaborate you get the higher the price.) You could definitely create a unique (if not downright hideous) looking bag all your own. At the moment, I'm practicing my mantra of 'good and cheap' right now. However, that bag I designed is in the back of my mind....

Here's the link for those of you in the market for a personally designed bag:

I am looking to buy a Notebook core i7 for AVCHD editing.

The Toshiba Qosmio X500-014 sold here in Canada has all the specs I want:

6gB RAM

core i7

2x 500 Gb hard drives (HOWEVER at 5400 rpm ???)

BD-ROM

display full HD 1080 p

Windows 7 Home

120 Watt power adaptor

Does anyone know if running hard drive at 5400 rpm matters or not for AVCHD editing?

Thank you,

So basically Im a budget filmmaker, and I have a 1080p/720p video camera, and I need a laptop to edit those one. Well here is the one I have picked and it needs to be around the $600-$700 range, I think this is the best.

Hi All,

I am looking for a good laptop for editing HD videos on the go. Here are some of my criteria:

Run Pinnacle Stuido version 10 or higher, efficiently.

Ideally a smaller laptop for increased portability (screen size is not really important)

Budget of around $500.

What kind of processor should I go with, Intel or AMD? Do I need dual core? How much RAM should I target? Does an integrated card with maxed out memory work ok, or should I fork up more money and get a laptop with a dedicated card? Any brand names I should gravitate towards, or stay away from? 32 bit or 64 bit OS? Is it worthwhile getting a Windows 7 laptop, or should I take advantage of sales on Vista based systems?

Any practical suggestions that you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thx,

Yesterday I went to use my laptop hard for about an hour, and the thing got so hot it started to stutter, and miss keystroke commands. I checked the fans with the diagnostics, and everything seems fine. I keep the thing on a laptop pad (always on), but the thing just gets hot.

I would like to do some video editing on the laptop as well as the desktop (for when I travel), but if it gets so hot, I do not think I will be able to do so. Is it possible to ventilate a Dell Inspiron E1720 case so I do not burn up the hardware?

This is schema how it works now. I searching way how to move freely and send video and audio from camera to laptop wirelessly.

Is there any chance to find solution? Any suggestions how to make this possible? What gear i need?

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a new laptop and need some help and reccomendations.

I'm a Television Broadcasting Student and I will pretty much be using every multimedia software you guys use for the next 2 years on this laptop; FCP (mac only, I know), AVid, Protools, Adobe CS3/4, 3d Studio Max just to name a few. I know you guys will probably tell me to go for a desktop but I do a lot of editing on the fly (yes 2 hour bus rides to and from school) and i already have 2 old desktops at home.

I was leaning the 15" macbook pros at 2.53Ghz (might get the 2.8ghz) which runs at about just under $3000 however I've always been a PC and only have used macs at school but i've been slowing coming around since I got an Ipod Touch for christmas. One other reasone I've been looking at the MB Pros is that I will HAVE to do most of my video editing on FCPro for the next 2 sems, and The real selling point for me is that I can Also install Win XP with bootcamp. I don't want to have to buy a PC laptop with Vista preinstalled (.. but if i must..).

What do you guys think, Should I buy the 15" MB Pro (Convince me not to). If i do should I get the the 2.53ghz or the 2.8ghz for $278 more. I also want this to last me for at least 3.5 years, ideally 5 or even 6.

If not a MBP then what laptop do you specifically recommend that will last me for the next 4years. Should I get one with Quad core? I've been browsing a lot of PC laptops but I really dont know which one to get.

Im looking at the price rage of about $2000 or under but will consider anything up to$2800

Keep in mind I may also be doing some gaming on it but it's not at all a priority.

Hi,

I have several months reviewing this web site and find it great, I hadn't even had the need for creating a new topic, there is

always one for what I am trying to understand, thanks to all the experienced people that is willing to help rookies like me

thanks to all !.

Now, I bought a Sony Vaio VGN series and had "blue screen" issues when trying to capture video from my Canon Gl2

using Adobe Premier several times, I did a very extensive research and found that other people in the world has had this problem with this laptop.

I sold it very cheap because of this and I am now ready to by a new one and I like to hear from the experts what laptop

recommend me for this. My budget is 900 dlls and I have a Best Buy store very close to where I am.

I am starting a new tv show in my city (small show) and will edit my sketches myself, I am using the laptop for this, will

use Adobe premier and sometimes (If I learn fast) After Effects.

Please help, Mac is not an options because my wife does not like it (mmm to be honest)

Thanks

 Hello,

I am in a situation where the only source to monitor the camera is from the DV port (The composite out is broken). Is it possible, and with what program can I monitor the camera (live) on a laptop?

 Thanks a lot,
