Try downloading the following file from muvee Reveal help forum:

ftp://muveeUserMedia:UM12oPLkadtunb9@ftp.muvee.com/codecPrinter_ToDesktop.zip

It prints a list of your installed CODECs to a text file on your desktop. May be useful in troubleshooting your issue. You may have a corrupted CODEC or another program installed an inferior MPEG-2 CODEC.

Sony Creative Software site offers the MainConcept MPEG-2 CODEC for sale if the Adobe site doesn't help.

Did you have any Adobe updates lately that may have caused the problem? Maybe you need to update or reinstall the progrm?

" Today I connected my JVC BR-S611U S-VHS deck to the card directly via the composite input and sound via XLR to RCA cables. The video captures fine, however the sound is WAY TOO HOT. "

A simple 10 db or 15 db passive attenuator between your JVC and the audio input to your video card should do the trick.

Hello Again Earl:

Thank-you for the reply. I am not sure about MIC level but it is possible on the "from" on the BRS611U. They are XLR after all.

However, the input on the Colossus card is definitely line level. They meant for you to hook up component connectors or use the HDMI in on the capture card. It is REALLY a nice card and very good for price point, plus you can run optical TOSlink into the card as well.

So, perhaps my first thought which was to run XLR into an audio mixer and run the line level out mains into the card is the way to go.

I hope to fix the audio mixer part by Monday next week ;-)

Thanks again for the reply and I do appreciate the input.

Your problem, Mike (the easy answer) is you going to or from Mic/Line. The distortion tells me you are feeding line out into mic in on your computer. You'll need an attenuator or device to bring the line level feed down to a mic level, or see if there's a line input on your computer.

Well I found a switch on the back for audio out. It has 3 settings... +6 db, 0 db, and -6db for the gain on the outputs. I tried the 0 setting and it helped a little but had a little distortion, so I went to the -6 and it seems to be still a bit hot for my liking, but the distortion is no longer present, so it appears this solved the issue.

Hello Fellow Videomakers!

I am in the process of setting up my video editing suite and have just purchased a Hauppauge Computer Works Colossus video capture card for my main system.

Today I connected my JVC BR-S611U S-VHS deck to the card directly via the composite input and sound via XLR to RCA cables. The video captures fine, however the sound is WAY TOO HOT.

It doesn't seem to matter if you reduce the volume, the distortion is still ever-present in the captured video. I have a feeling that this may be due to the XLR to RCA conversion and not being "line level" or balanced perhaps.

There are future plans (very near future in fact) to get an audio mixer to handle my many sources for the capture device, but I would love to figure out the audio issue and how it might be solved. Again the VCR is a JVC BR-S611U, and so if anyone has experience with these decks and can offer what I may be missing on the audio output, this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you,

Hi guys, I am a new chap here and having some issues importing my media on Premier. A bit of background I am using Mac 10.7.2 and Adobe Premier 5. Shot my media on a JVC GY-HM100U and it was ingested by copying the whole folder into my computer. My video is 1080 60i the .xml file says:

dataFormat="xdvb"

videoCodec="MPEG2_VBR35M_1920_1080_60I_MP@HL" ch="STEREO_2CH"

audioCodec="LPCM16_48K"

Neither Premier nor imovie can't open the media and the error I get is that the codec is missing. I tried to convert my media using the Video Converter by iSkysoft but the quality decreased exponentially. I also tried Calibrated{Q} XD Decode, but it won't play in real time in Premier and looks choppy.

Went and downloaded the JVC HD pro clip manager but ironically it doesn't recognize the media either and the error is that is not a m4p file. JVC site and other reviews say that there is no need to wrap or transcode and the media formats are compatible with Mac which is false or I am missing something.

Does anyone have any advice how to get around this issue? Your thoughts would be highly appreciated!

Hi,

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I have pinnacle 14HD ultimate studio and whenever I connect my camcorder (recorded in either UXP or XP) it finds the files (.MTS) and the resulting quality is pixelated and looks poor. I'm using the USB connector and this seems to be if I import directly into pinnacle or copy the files to my PC 1st by essentially using the camcorder as an external hard drive and copying and pasting them into a file on the pc.

Is it due to the usb connector, my video card (which is HD compatible) or something else I'm missing?

I'm sure I have the right camcorder and software for HD recording and editing but the quality is poor.

Hoping someone can cast some light on this for me!

Thanks

I saw on the VM community forums a post to a blog where it shows how to open a jvc everio. However, it seems that JVC found it was too easy to open their older camcorders. The recent hybrid Hard Drive / micro SD series GZ-HD500, 520, 620, are not anymore easy to open unless one breaks something. The bottom panel next to the microSD slot is no longer easy to open. I would not like to break mine (HD500BUS) but it has been a hassle to record with an external recorder. I have used so far a Sony ICD-UX71 recorder with a stereo Azaden SMX-10 boom mike or a ECM-CS10 stereo lavalier (when I attached the mike to the subject in an interview) and then edit the sound (sync is done using a key sound signal or a clapper board), which is like going back to the 8mm ages. If someone has been able to open the new Everios without damaging, it will be helpful for many.

Some points to keep in mind.

A lot of issues with memory cards in these types of devices (cameras, audio recorders, etc.) have been linked to people not formatting them in the device to be used BEFORE use. Not all FAT32 is treated the same by these devices and this allows the device to set up it's file structure in the memory card before actual use. In some cases this formatting can catch compatibility problems before you try to put critical data on them.

My process has been the following. The only 2 card issues I have ever had was losing the write protect tab (I use SDHC and write protect them when I take them out of the camera. Losing this tab puts it in write protect so you still have access to your data);

New card goes in and is formatted immediately.

Cards that I copy the data off of go through the same process before reuse once I confirm a valid copy was taken.

I don't think I'm able to get micro center products anywhere near me (Belgium). I did find out that Transcend sells about the same quality, but at half the price (Class 10 32gb for 60 euros). I'm worried about the compatibility though. They should work, but there have been problems in the past and I can't seem to find if they are solved or not.

I would definitely go class 10. Some generics I have had horrid problems with, but I have had great success with the Microcenter brand, and I believe their 32GB class 10 cards are only $50 at the moment. Do NOT go class 1, it will be way too slow.

Hi,

I'm about to buy a GY HM100, so I'm also looking which SDHC cards to use. I know class 6 is the mininum, but will class 10 also work? Also, I found a website where they sell class 1 HD cards. Would these work?

Second; what bitrate should the cards have? I know the camera can go up to 35Mbit/s, which I assume, is when it records in 1080p. So the cards should also have a minimum of 35Mb/s?

If there are users here who can share there experience with this camera and these SDHC-cards, that would be great.

Thanks,

Krisse

I just signed up on Videomaker today and wanted to start out with a forum solely for discussing the JVC GY-HM750U. I just purchased this camera not too long ago and am working to get a better understanding of ALL of the features of this camera. I will primarily shoot music videos and non-profit events. Does anyone out there own this camera? I have searched the web for a tutorial on the use of this camera as well as when and when not to use many of its cool features such as the preset cinema mode. Any comments, suggestions, stories, questions and discussions regarding the newest JVC ProHD camera would be appreciated.

Hi, belatedly I see your posting here. Did you resolve the problem, or give up? You can get Windows to view the MOV output from this camera by purchasing Calibrated's codec called calibrated {Q} XD Decode (don't ask me to justify the name syntax!).

 http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXDSpecs.asp

This codec handles the XDCAM EX encoding. I really enjoy this camera and do my video processing with relatively low cost packages including reading the .mov files directly into tmpgenc for compression. Or Corel VideoStudio. Or Corel MovieFactory.

Hope this helps!

Use a program called Super. Works like a charm. Converts just about any format, including .mod, to .mov, .avi, etc.
