I am trying to use my Canon EOS T2i as a webcam so I can start doing small live web streams of various activities: (LED lights & Light Shows *youtube light show if you don't know*)

I've tried using this technique:Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFgK4gitrgY

But, there was way too much chop in the frame rate.

Im also trying to use UStream.com as my host.
I have various computers to work from Mac&PC.

What I am looking for is:
Technical specs that are best for live webstreaming for both Camera & Computer system
Recommended Software & Software settings
Recommended Techniques (HDMI vs USB?/Wireless Possiblity?/Etc...)

Also I would like to know if its possible to make the camera wireless?
I've used: http://www.amazon.com/Gefen-Wireless-USB-2-0-Extender/dp/B0017H52JO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1310060016&sr=8-1

To attempt to make it wireless. Works but ALOT of chop in the video quality and Lag using the Streaming technique above.

If you need to know my computer specs. I'll be happy to post those if requested

"I guess this is a little off-topic...."

Bob,

Not really. Even Grinner's 'Boobie' comment has relevance. People today are so desperate to be 'known' and the 'Net has 'Democratized' fame to a certain degree. I just saw how some jack-ass has gotten himself a book & television sitcom deal out of writing 118 little pearls of wisdom his old (literally) man says on Twitter. That's how it is now. We're between people wanting to be famous and the ones who become infamous like retarded (meaning someone who is supposed to be of full mental capacity but still does something stupid) Ashley who let a few million of her new 'friends' get a good look at what she has under the hood.

True! I find it hard to understand how anyone can be taken in by the Nigerian President's ex-wife who just has to get her personal fortune out of the country and "could you send me your bank details so I can transfer my money to it" or similar scams and yet some people DO fall for it. Anyway, I guess this is a little off-topic so I'll leave it there.

Thanks for your comments

"... hope I can get through to her before she gets her fingers burnt."

Bob,

To quote the 'Joker' in "The Dark Knight", "Wanna' know how I got these scars?" Without trying to 'fear monger' there have always been 'wacky' folks out there. For some reason though the 'Net has made a lot of them much worse. The dangerous thing about the 'Net is that retarded feeling of 'anonymity' people think they have. Social Networking sites are a novel idea and have their good points, but they do create a 'herd mentality'. Unfortunately, wherever there's a herd there are predators not far behind. At least in the States you hear about it more and more each day how people are being picked off by 'Net predators. Scams involving your info, identity theft, rapes (of females and males) and oft times murders (also indiscriminate of gender.) Many of such cases could have easily been prevented had the victim not put all of their personal info out there to be had.

Unfortunately, much of your personal info whether you have been diligent or not is out there anyway. All it takes is a dedicated search and sometimes just a little cash and you can find out all kinds of 'usable' info on a person.

Comp, I've never seen that commercial but it ought to be shown in the UK, if my 19-year-old niece is anything to go by. I am forever "suggesting" she tones down some of the details she puts on her Facebook pages but she chooses to ignore me. "Oh Uncle Bob, you worry too much!!" I will keep trying and hope I can get through to her before she gets her fingers burnt.

Derek,

Whataya' say to that? Every possible comeback I could think of would be tagged as 'beyond politically incorrect!' I will say that there was a 'Meth Lab' understaffed at the time those characters made that flick!

Bob,

I just cannot comprehend how 'effin' retarded these people are these days. Okay, let's just say that by some magical means those candid snaps went only to her hubby. He's in a war zone and I can tell you from my own numerous deployments that sooner or later someone will get a hold of those pictures whether by accident or 'accidentally on purpose' and they'll get spread around! I've broken up fights because some yahoo got his hands on some sailor's naked wife/girlfriend photos. And cell phones back on the homefront have an annoying habit of 'walking off' on their own. On deployment, they don't tell you to keep your gear locked up for nothing.

I do like that one commercial where the cute & innocent 13-15 year-old girl is walking around town and all of those guys from teenagers to gray-beards are talking to her about her personal stuff (right down to her favorite panty color) to illustrate how your so-called 'private' info isn't. I guess 'Ashely' never saw that video.

Grinner,

I got to see my ex's boobies for the first time the old-fashioned way, I talked her into it. Nice idea for a Bumber Sticker though.

Are you sure that pun was unintentional??? Darn good one, anyway. It's bizarre really, did the lady think the picture would go STRAIGHT to her husband's phone, like two cans and a piece of string between them. It just goes to show that the so-called internet generation are not as computer-literate that they are given credit for. Timely warning though not timely enough for her.

With the influx of camera phones, social networking sites and a whole horde of other geeky crap that allows us to post our images online or send them via 'the magic satellite beams', one immutable law has come forth. 'Whatever goes on the 'Net Stays on the 'Net'. Hopefully all of the knuckleheads who 'lemming like' say to themselves, 'This will just be private between me and 'X'' Yeah 'X' meaning the 'unknown number' used in advanced mathematics. Here's yet another story of a young woman who 'Thought' (not necessarily the operative word) that a private photo sent to her deployed husband via an app on her iPhone would just be between them. She was wrong.

iPhone photo leaked to web

Bottom line (no pun intended) is; if you don't want to share something between you and the millions of 'huddled masses' (in front of their computers that is) DON'T PUT IT ONLINE OR SEND IT VIA CELL PHONE!

In July 2009 I received a Roku Box for my Birthday, since then I have fallen in love with the ability to stream Netflix and all the channels they offer direct to my TV.

Roku now has the ability to set up a channel and have your own programming added so viewers can watch. There is nothing like being able to watch internet shows on an actual TV rather than sitting in front of my PC. Yes you can hook a PC to a TV but this is easier and simple. See my article on ITV about the growing online streaming industry and how it affects viewers.

So, I would like to ask Videomaker to add their content of fantastic videos, tutorials and programming to a channel on Roku! You can set it up here in the development section.

Imagine being able to watch Videomaker on TV! It's possible now, and with more units available to do the same, XBox, Boxee, etc., this is a growing trend with hundreds of thousands of viewers already jacking in the internet to their television sets.

So, what about it Videomaker? Are you game? Will you accept the challenge to create your own TV station and stream your quality programming on Roku? I hope you will and I know many others will enjoy the show!

Other alternatives would be to join Mediafly, BlipTV or another channel already there. But I think Videomaker deserves to have their own station on the net.

So there you have it. Videomaker, I want to watch YOU on TV where you belong! What say ye?

J. Michael

Pretty much everything the government does to us, for us or against us feels like a colonscopy "in the end." :-)

Crafters,

That's pretty wacky. It also shows how flippin' bi-polar our government and country has gotten. But the bottom line isn't 'freedom' or 'enemy defeation'(is that a word?) for the countries in question citizens access to the 'net. It's all about the huge 'net service providers cashing in on those untapped markets. You pull the leashes off countries whose governments suppress internet access and watch the money roll in. I do like how one hand is waving the 'freedom flag' and the other is preparing 'the probe'.

Gotta love government. This looks like another faction is trying to go the other way.

Do you think they really ever talk to eachother? I want to see how they are going to eat their cake and have it too..

RPS,

Don't be sorry. That whole 'angling for a new way to collect fees' is really a prevailing undertone coming from this case. It's a shame that even when planning to make rules 'for the public good', the overall plan is to take advantage of a situation in order to create yet another revenue stream.

I'm sure on board with all of this discussion.

I'm confident that any proposed insertion from any type of government is a result of a bigger picture which always seems to have one goal and that is "Fees", ya know, taxes.

The strategy of regulations will always point to money. Historically we just see various ways of reaching that goal. It all depends on what society is sensitive to at that point in history. If the people are concerned about our environment governmental and big business strategies will focus on projecting an appearance of a goal being to save the environment. Which ultimately will led to the birth of governmental departments/branches to protecting that cause. On and on it has gone and continues to go. The ACLU, unions and other special interest groups will jump on board but only after they have gathered up their under the table deals and commitments to ensure they will benefit from the regulatory laws that will soon follow.

The trail of regulations is lined on both sides of the "One Way Highway" with the deposit receipts of tax payers money. The majority of all funds crushed out of our pockets from the mountain of government regulations, taxes, special permit fees, administration fees, etc. will never be used to mitigate the issues they claim need to be regulated.

As long as our elected officials are able to keep the public at odds with each other their blatant disregard for their oath to their office will never be exposed and they will continue to destroy the unity we so desperately need in order to remove the influence of politics from "our" government, our lives and our quest for the American dream.

OK, I'm done, sorry.

"Show me someone "thrilled" with any facet of the establishment and I will show you a MEMBER of the establishment."

That or someone who doesn't mind that little 'dip in the medicine trough' and the nice man with the shears waiting to cut off all their wool.

"To me the sad part is that the general public will not realize the
"slippery slope' we are introducing until it becomes too late to change
it."

Yeah, that's the rub of it. People want to feel 'safe and comfortable' so every time some new legislation or agency comes along to ensure that feeling of security, folks seem to go along with it. Forget about how each time that happens you lose a bit more of your perceived rights. It's so funny to me. I remember talking to a friend of mine after 911 and she kept going on about "how she didn't feel safe," she didn't take it well when I told her that none of us ever were.

Safety in my mind means 'today I did my thing and went to bed without incident. Tomorrow's another story.' Now that thing with 'Nipplegate' was obviously a stunt that accident or no, obviously didn't go over well. Apologize, pay a fine, don't do it again. Hell I was watching and unless you TiVo'ed it, you couldn't see anything anyway. I thought she had a pasty on. If the news people hadn't slow-mo'ed it endlessly for weeks after that it probably wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

What I find annoying is how the FCC is just using this as an excuse to as Earl called it, "Make some more asinine rules." If you want to see another incident of how all these 'New Rules' are making life more 'interesting', take a look at my other post "Potential Problems when Shooting in Public."

To me the sad part is that the general public will not realize the "slippery slope' we are introducing until it becomes too late to change it. Those that are not protesting it believe, to some degree, that it is going to protect them from perceived dangers without reducing their rights. They do not understand that at any time you have an element of the government regulating (read restrict) access to any of our perceived freedoms, those regulations will impact them at some point. By then it will be too late to voice out "that was not what we intended..."

As it is we already have agencies "listening in" to the Internet for terrorist behavior, Child Pornography, certain levels of identity theft, stalking, child molesting and such. Do we really need another agency looking over our collective shoulders? I think the poll above serves an answer to that question.
