Thanks guys. This was helpful, not what I wanted to hear, but helpful. I just installed the Sony Content Management Software on a PC and it brought the files in as 1 larger file. I am now converting it and will then move it over to the Mac for editing. Thank you again for your help.

I am absolutely no expert on the subject because I'm still using tape based HDV cameras, but I've read on other forums that you need to use Sony's software that came with the camera, to seamlessly join the files. I think it's called Content Management Software...?

A little further searching and I found this...

http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/files/micro/nxcam/manuals/25697_NXCAM_FCP_FR.pdf

here's the quick excerpt from page 7

.MTS file
This is the high quality AVCHD video stream data. During long recordings, the clip is
automatically divided (spanned) into 2GB segments. Spanned files are seamlessly merged
while transferring to Final Cut Pro via the Log & Transfer window.

This camcorder split files after around 12 minutes and you loss some audio and video frames (the "Hicups" in the video you mention). The only way I found to fix this is by converting the video using the Sony Picture Content Manager included with the camcorder. Since you are a Mac user you will not be able to use the Sony Picture Content Manager (Windows Only), so you need a Windows computer to fix this. Sadly I haven't found an application for Mac that can join this files.

I have recently started using a Sony HDR-AX2000 mostly for short videos. However last week I recorded an 75 min lecture. When I grabbed the files from the card I noticed that they were broken into 1.98 gb files. I then use iSkySoft Video Convertor to convert them into a mpg.4 for Final Cut Pro. When I bring them into FCP there are "Hicups" in the video and audio where the files are broken. Some of them the audio flows thru fine but the video is bad, some of them have problems with the both. Is this normal? Is there something I can change to correct this??

I don't have Windows 7 but this sounds familar. I've used XP a lot, and one machine of mine had Vista on it. When I transfered files using Powerdesk (a freeware file management program) it was REALLY slow on the Vista machine. But when I used Vista's Computer to navigate (like My Computer) and simply copy and pasted, it worked fine. Something about Vista, I figured--it didn't like Powerdesk for some reason, probably security related. Your problem might be similar--try copy and pasting or try using a different software program to transfer and maybe it'll speed up.

Your specs are certainly enough to make it work. Something is holding it back.

In sum, try:

cutting and pasting instead of moving or copying

a different software program

a batch file will probably do it, if Win 7 has a DOS prompt and if Win 7 uses XCOPY (or has an equivalent like ROBOCOPY--I use that for all my backups and it's great and about as fast as you can get).

My Canon Vixia HG 20 worked well on an older (but extremely slow) computer using Windows XP. Since I've upgraded to a Windows 7 computer (see below) there seems to be no good way to transfer files from the camcorder to the computer's HD. In Win XP, I would go to the camcorder's AVCHD/BDMV/Stream folder and drag and drop the MTS files and it worked beautifully. In Win 7, drag & Drop apparently works, but it's so extremely slow that for rpactical purposes it really doesn't work at all - a 20 second clip shot at medium resolution might take 3 hours (yes - literally!) minutes to transfer.

The software formerly used by Canon, Pixela, doesn't work with Win 7. I've called Pixela, and they told me that they have no plans to support Win 7, that in the future all maneuvers with the Canon Vixia HG 20 must be done using Windows Live Movie Maker. I phoned Canon technical support and was told the same thing by them.

This is a HD camera, and its HD contains some videos which I must not lose. Is there any way these HG 20 files can be transferred to the computer at any sort of reasonable speed?

OS is Windows 7 Professional. Computer has Intel i7 960 chip running at 2.66 GHz. 6 GB of RAM. Graphics card is NVidia with 1 GB of onboard RAM.

I'm at a point where I feel I must resolve this problem or abandon this very nice camcorder.

I would be very grateful for any replies at all. Please don't hesitate to post them here, or (even better) send to wgh2005@twcny.rr.com

Hum this may sound strange but while your video is loading and it stops try hitting your space bar a couple of times to see if that gets it started again or Ctrl+Alt/ Like I said this may sound weired but try I know that on my vegas and some others on the vegas forum where having problems loading Vegas the splash picture would show up Vegas would start loading then freeze by doing what I suggested vegas would conrinue on and load no kidding. Do not know if this would work for you or not but give it a try who knows

hmmmmmm.

That is tricky

if you are prepared, i would keep all the files on the computer, but re-instal the software.

So if there is any bugs, they will be removed from the software

It also helps a LOT if you restart the computer immideatly before doing the task you are tring to compleat

tell me if it works
