Exporting Footage: How do I get the Best Quality?

Hi everyone!

I have a somewhat broad but nonetheless nagging question to ask. What is the best format/settings to export a final video to be used for high quality playback?

For example If I have some 1080P HD footage that I want to export for playback on a computer (to be played on a DLP projector). What is the best format to preserve all of the quality but still be playable? Formats like apple animation preserve quality but will bog down almost any machine.

Specifically I use Adobe media encoder but I am up for any suggestions of other software.

This is what I am currently outputting all my video as:

Main: H.264
Multiplexer: MP4
Standard: NTSC
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
FPS: 24
Field Order: Progressive
Pixel Aspect: Square
Profile: Main
Level: 3.1
Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 1 Pass
Target Bitrate [Mbs]: 7
Maximum Bitrate [Mbs]:8
Keyframe Distance: 24

I look forward to all of your input,

Hi. I regularly use Encore CS4 for DVD authoring, from Premiere Pro sequences. Usually, I do it in "automatic", so the application decides the transcoding bitrate and other parameters. A 90 minutes DVD usually last around 5 hours.

However, I was not satisfied with the results. I shoot HDV and the quality of raw footage and DVD were totally different. The DVD just don't look too bad, but not near professional.

My footage is most live dance events, so fast motion is the norm.

I tested with manual transcoding parameters: VBR, 2 pass, target 6, max 8 min 2, and the process took 25 hours in a Core 2 Quad with 8 Gb RAM for 90 minutes video.

I am surprise for the time, considering the system is quite powerfull. Is this normal?

I am editing videos using Final Cut Pro v6, exporting them with video at 48KHZ, then transcoding them to flash using Squeeze; the audio is uncompressed. For some strange reason, when the videos are viewed on PCs, the sound doesn't play out of the PC Speaker. It only plays when you connect headphones or external speakers to the headphone jack. I can't figure out why. One thing I've noticed is that when I change the audio panning in FCP to '0,' I get no sound at all. Thanks for your advice.

Hello everyone,

I am brand new to this forum as of like 5 minutes ago. I have a project I need to get finished and ran into a encoding/compiling error.

Here's the deal:

I am making a wedding video that I filmed. I would say 85% of it was shot onto mini HDV while the rest was done with a camera that uses AVCHD. The problem came when I exported the ceremony clip. We shot the ceremony with both cameras (both formats). CS4 let me bring import both into my timeline and i worked with both without a problem. Come time to encode and I get an "unknown error". I realized that it was saving the video up to the point where the AVCHD format first shows up. Sooo i copied my work and in the copy took out all the AVCHD material and walla .. it encoded.

My question/problem:

Is there any export settings or sequence settings that will allow me to have both formats in my timeline and still be able to encode the movie/scene? Or is this even my problem? Feel free to let me know what I am doing wrong or where i misspoke; I have been away from the movie editing hobby for a long time..

thanks,

I am new to the forum and new to video. I purchased a Cannon HFS100. I will be recording short 2 minute segments that I will connect together in a video editing program, I am currently testing them all. I have been shooting in the highest resolution and am exporting the AVCHD files to my PC.

My question....

I am looking to do three things with the files, (1) post them on my website for online streaming (2) post them on my website for user download so they can burn to DVD or watch on their PC and (3) post them on my website for IPOD download.

I am wondering is there is a 1 format fits all for question 1&2 that would allow me to keep the HD quality of the video in tact. I have tried multiple formats, WMV 1080 30p, Mpeg 2, HDV 720P.

In reading a lot of different forums I am more confused then ever. I would love to convert them to MP4, however, the quality when I do this (or mpeg 2) for that matter looks horrible.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone,

I came here because I've spent endless hours researching this topic and so far have had no luck. I've done numerous tests and so far the best I've came up with so far is pretty much the MainConcept AVC/ACC (MP4) Codec, 640 x 360, CBR @ 1,200Kbps for HD video streaming. I've played with the On2 Flix Pro, QuickTime Pro (mine doesn't have the H.264 option available for some reason), and recently messed with ProCoder 3. I've encoded the same video using all of them and the ProCoder 3 seems to be slightly better using the H.264 codec, but I'm still not satisfied. WMV 9 codec in Sony Vegas has by far exceeded all of them, but it's not near as flexible of a format as the flash formats.

What I'm trying to figure out or achieve is video quality like that of Facebook's video. I'm astounded by the quality of my HD videos when I upload them and Facebook converts them.

Can someone give me some really good and helpful tips for achieving much higher quality video, which codec ranks highest (I'm using Sony Vegas), and what is the best method for a target of around 800Kbps - 1200Kbps datarate streaming video.

Whoever solves this riddle for me I will forever be in debt to. It's hard to believe it's so difficult finding any sort of compression guides online that is targeted for streaming video from one's own web server.

Thanks in advance!

I hope I posted this in the correct section.

I was wondering if there was any point in encoding a video file which was streamed at 400/Kbps to a higher bit rate.

Is the end result just a larger file? Is there no improvement in the over all quality by increasing bit rate?

I basically have a WMV file which is 320x240 in size and has a bit rate of 403Kbps. I need to edit the video and need some help in figuring out if making the final cut at a higher bit rate than the source footage will do anything other giving me a larger file.

Thanks in advance!

My problem seems to be only when I try to convert a project to a Windows Media File. I use the 2 pass VBR method. I get an error the Audio encoding failed and am told to try one pass or CBR (Constant Bit Rate). I try this but get the same message. I first encountered this issue a year ago and found the fix online but thought it was a one time issue so I did not record how I fixed it and now I have forgotten what I did to fix it. Adobe says they will no longer support Premiere Pro 2 and promptly ended the techsupport. Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated.
