I recognize a few of these effects from After Effects. It looks like a combination of Twitch (plugin), Bad TV (preset), and probably a time-remapping plugin like time shuffler. Bad TV comes with After Effects but here are a couple of links for the others:

https://www.videocopilot.net/products/twitch/

I can't guarantee that's how this person got that look, but these are my best guesses.

The titler in studio 14 should be able to do a lot of what you see in that video. Pinnacle studio 14 has a tile building program that you can build awesome titles, and they will play over a video if put under a video on the timeline. What I see in that video, when things pop up, it is the actual game this person is playing, showing these things on the screen. What i see in that video is a screen capture of a person playing the game, no editing and simply posted to youtube. You can do awesome videos with Studio14, using GIMP or any good photo edit software or program. Type studio 14 into the search engine on youtube and see and learn what is possible.

I'm with pseudo,

Acting wasn't terrible for your level of filmmaking. However, there were shots you guys missed that would have added to the pace of your flick. There were close ups of the items you were using for the sandwich but they came later after you got them out the fridge. You should have just skipped to the close ups and it would have been tighter.

Also, the cameraman couldn't keep up with the actor's motions. That threw the timing off as well. There were no extreme close-ups of the knife like pseudo said and none of it spreading the p-n-j. You guys had some major 'screen direction' violations and were crossing the 180 degree line like people use a crosswalk.

Another thing, you kept starting over with wide shots after you'd already got us in close. You don't have to reestablish the overall scene until you either introduce a new character or you change scenes. Constantly pulling the audience in and out of the same scene with wide to medium shots gets annoying fast.

You had a lot of 'dead cuts' where you didn't 'cut on the action'. To keep continuity (flow) within a scene always cut on the action. Oh and every cut to a new scene doesn't have to be a wide shot. Especially when introducing a new character.Unless the setting where the character is has some relevance to what's going on, you can introduce them with a medium close-up or close-up.

One way to spot amateur shooters is how far away they have the talent in the frame. And you don't have to have every character dead center of frame all the time either... really you don't.

Lastly, please turn off the Auto Exposure and use your manual whitebalance settings. That shifting from too dark to too light as you change locations in a single shot is the hallmark of the 'YouTube' special.

You guys put a lot of work into this and other than these basic issues with shooting sequences, camera settings and audio, with more experience and more knowledge your team will be very good at this. The VFX weren't bad, but you've still got a long way to go. Keep at it!

I ran across this clip showing how LOOK EFFECTS did the VFX work for the recent film "Black Swan". There's some simple yet complicated work that made the character's transformation into madness look believable. Take a look and maybe you'll get some ideas of your own!

Startng in sony Vegas Pro 8 they added the Pro type titler. In pro titler there are several presets one is called "Float and Pop" Another is Bounce. If you do a search on google or maybe utube you should be able to find some tutorials that explain how to use this feature.

Hey everyone. I'm brand new to the forums so please be gentle. Here's my deal: I work in a mobile DJ environment. We incorporate several visual elements with our music (music videos, background video footage, live camera feed from the dance floor and custom text and graphics) that are mixed together and projected on large screens or flat screens. All of which I'm happy with except the text and text effects.

Currently, I'm using a Videonics (circa 1996) character generator to superimpose text and graphics onto the screens and as you can guess it doesn't look great. Is there another option out there that will deliver clean looking text and some cool effects that can be typed and exported in real time?

Thanks in advance for the help.

That's a cool video! There are actually two (at least) layers running here. The first, is the background or content layer. The graphics, pointing hand, etc. are on a second layer with a transparent background. That way, when the layers are stacked with the graphics above the content you get the superposition.

Use an animation program to create the graphics (maybe Adobe After Effects or something like that) and be sure the alpha channel is transparent. The transparent alpha channel is what lets the background show through.

If you can't control the alpha channel, look for something in your editor like luma keying. If the background of your graphic clip is either black or white, this feature can sometimes be effective in making it transparent.

Good luck,

Hi guys!
I am just an amature video editor, so I need some help trying to figure out how to use a feature for video editing. I have Studio 14 HD. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I want to have a video overlay on a video....not sure if that is the correct term(s), but kinda like this:
YouTube - Final Fantasy XIII Demo -- running around and battle

I want something like that; a gauge filling up to the end, ENGLISH text in the actual bars (which I can edit, so I can put anything I want).

Also want to know if I can make the cursor (the white glove in this case) move like that, so I can tell it where to go as I edit.

Also would like to know if the above solution is also the same as adding an Xbox 360 achievement notification.
This is all assuming I have the correct software.
Thanks regardless of any future solution, and thanks for taking the time for reading my post. Heres to hoping!

Set anchor points at the joints of the wings then just keyframe rotation changes. Once you have the butterfly flappin', you can precompose those three layers (body, wing one and wing two) and animate scale, position, and camera changes as desired. Again, just render with an alpha channel and it'll key over anything with just a drag and a drop.

You'd be best off just animating them yourself. You can make the butterfly in photoshop then animate the wings in AE. You can then either animate the position and scale in AE and render with an alpha channel or just do that in FCP with your animated wings you did in AE.

If that is over your head, I'm sure you can find some animated butterflies with alpha channels on your favorite elements sites.

Hey guys! I'm a total amateur so here goes:

I have available: Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects.

What I'm looking for is adding some really neat or cool "butterfly" effects into my video. It's all shot outside - not in front of a green screen or anything.

What I was thinking was to find some kind of animated, cool 3D butterflies with a green background, set the background as my video and do that...however I can't find anything like that.

It needs to be kinda subtle, and I really want it to look like the effects in this Taylor Swift vide:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb-K2tXWK4w

Same kinda texture and all. (Look at 1:18 or so)

Does this sound like something I can do?

If you are using a single track for the video, you can add effects to the track, instead of each clip.

If multiple tracks, you can make each of the video tracks children of a control parent track and add the effects there(I think - Never had to do that).

However, as Rob said, each clip may require it's own settings and as Pseudo suggested you could always pre-render to a high quality intermediary.

You want to add effects to clips individually because each clip is different. Magic Bullet effects are really only presets - a starting point - so you SHOULD adjust the effect of each clip to achieve the best results.

There are only a few occasions where dropping an effect onto an entire sequence is appropriate

I'm no pro, but I'd render it once.

One reason is that each time you render, you're compressing and losing quality (maybe a little, maybe a lot, but SOME for sure).

If others have input, I'd be interesting in hearing it, too.

Hi All.

I'm pretty new to video editing and I was wondering how I should use effects in general. I use Sony Vegas Pro 9.

For exapmle, I have a 15 minute piece of video made up of various scenes...do I render all the scenes first to one file and then re-import the 15 min video as one file , then add my Magic Bullet Mojo effect just once....(and if so what file format should I use?)...or should I add the Magic Bullet effect various times to the individual clips and render the whole thing just once?

Thank you in advance.
