Hi,

I'm looking for a couple of videographers.

From time to time we get asked to do video editing work. It would normally consist of simply stripping out an English-language voice over from a digital video and adding a new language VO. Because most of this work is for corporate videos (as opposed to television or film work), it does not need to be lip-sync'd. We paragraph-synchronise the audio during recording. There may, however, be a
little audio (or video) tweaking to be done (by you) to some of the start and end points for each phrase / paragraph / scene (eg. time-stretch, tiny cuts).

Work would be on a per-project basis, from your home / studio

Pay per-hour.

We usually do not give much advance notice, so you would need to be generally available on a day-to-day basis for an hour or two at a time. If this is not the case, please do not apply.

Is this kind of work something you are capable of, are available for, and would be interested in doing?

Thanks,

Hi there,

I use ubuntu 11.04 (linux) and cant find any software supporting MOV file (canon S95). I remember that I had same problem some time ago when using windows platform.

I'll be using software for editing diving movies, so I need something powerful but not too complicated... I find iMovie, which accepts MOV file, simple and reliable for this kind of work... Unfortunately, cant use iMovie on Ubuntu...

Need some help!! I've been looking around for some time but no success...

Thanks in advance!!

Hi everyone,

I am new to freelancing and NYC so I am having a hard time coming up with figures to charge potential clients. I just finished a project for a friend and was hoping other professionals could take a look and be honest with what I should/could charge for something like this. Either hourly, or as a package deal. I am in desperate need of some real numbers that match my skill level and services provided!

The project involved me taking 8 hours (10 tapes) of home videos (poorly shot/lit) and editing them into a 30 minute long montage in chronological order. This also included color correcting, adding music, cleaning up audio and adding basic titles throughout. This took me roughly 30 hours.

She also wanted a short music video with selected clips that she could share on YouTube and Facebook. This is the link to that, so you can get an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDyvmjWFk7o This one took me about 6 hours. The longer version looked similar in style, (without the moving picture effect), and also included audio.

If anyone has any accurate figures, ideas or honest advice I would greatly appreciate it! Keep in mind that I am in NYC, so if you live elsewhere then please let me know how the market there compares if have any idea. THANKS!!!

Hi everyone,

I have been looking
for a position as an intern or editor’s assistant in Los Angeles for about 3
years now, since I graduated from college with a degree in Media Arts, and I’m
starting to run out of ideas and become frustrated as to why nobody will hire
me. As far as experience goes, I have worked
at two tv stations and on the behind the scenes featurette of a large scale
film. I know Final Cut, Premiere, After
Effects and Photoshop, and spent about 2k this year taking an AVID course and
getting an AVID technical certification. I have a subscription to
Media-match.com and get job alerts sent to my email. I’ve been applying to
about 15 online jobs a week but I never get any responses. Lately I have been
calling post-houses off LA411.com and cold calling for basic internships in order to
learn a little more and just get my foot in so I can start on the ground floor
of a company and grow with the position. I have offered to work for free for a trial
period at all the places I’ve called…After about 2 months, I’ve had one
interview but no call back, and most of the people I talk to seem to just be either
incredibly flaky, or just giving me the run around. I also have a demo reel.... http://www.vimeo.com/17581129, but
after all the positions I’ve applied to it only has 8 views?

Is there something I am doing wrong or missing?

How am I supposed to break into this industry if I don’t
know anybody and nobody will take a chance on me?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Just picked up a Samsung SC-MX20 camcorder that shoots SD in H.264 MPEG4 onto an SDHC card for amateur home video recording. It came with “Cyberlink Media Show” software for editing. The problem is that neither of my computers meet the minimum requirements for the software… 512 RAM and 3 GHz speed, minimum. (My desktop has the memory but only 2.8 GHz. When I try to play a video, the sound will play but it won’t show the picture).  Of course, it plays fine with Microsoft media player. I don’t want to do anything fancy – just cut some files and paste others together. Is there a simple cheap editor out there that would work on a Pentium R(4) CPU 2.8 GHz with 512 RAM?

Thanks!

Hi all - I'm new to digital video making... actually I'm returning to the craft. I worked in television 15 years ago, and was a wiz with linear/non-linear editing. Mostly on VHS, SVHS and 3/4" formats.

Now I'm trying to update my skills and re-enter the realm, mostly making training videos for my law enforcement training biz and local sports features for my sports announcing hobby... been mostly using free programs from online.

What I WANT to do is lay video OVER the existing audio track... such as a narration with different b-roll and static pics going over it. BUT I CANNOT FIND A VIDEO EDITING PROGRAM THAT LETS ME DO THIS... or at least they don't say anything on the listed features... I've been burned with one software program already... can anyone suggest a program that will allow me to do this?

Thanks
