When I try to edit the video from my Nikon D5100, it is incredibly slow and stuttery in whatever video editor I try to use. If I convert it, the quality gets significantly degraded. Is there any way to fix this?

I have 20 DVDs worth of unedited .MTS files from a Canon Vixia HD prosumer camera.

I need to edit these using Sony Vegas, which supposedly supports .mts. Within Vegas however, when I preview my clips on the timeline, the quality is terrible. I get a single frame in the window every 2 or 3 seconds making editing impossible. Apparently this is a common problem with .mts.

How do I go about being able to edit .mts in Vegas? If that's not possible, how do I go about converting the .mts to a file that Vegas will support for smooth editing?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running 4GBs of DDR3, a Duo 2.26 Ghz processor, 1066 Mhz FSB, 3 MB L2, 320GB harddrive, and my project files are on external 500GB hard drive. I have the 512 MB NVIDEO GeForce 9600M GT in the laptop.

These must be for professional DVD output, so if I convert, I can't lose any visual quality for when I put them on DVD.

Nobody seems to have a definitive answer thus far...you guys are my last hope!!!!

I'm trying to follow the advice of an ebook "Start Up A Photography or Videography Business On A Shoestring".

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004OA6EUM

The advice is that for covering weddings and other events, the camcorder should have in-camera edits. The in-camera editing features should help minimize post production editing.

The authors recommend the Sony DSR-250 which has a fade-to-black, various wipe transitions, and a digital dissolve. Since this camcorder is standard definition, is there another camcorder with the same or similar in-camera editing features, but in HD?

Thanks, Sam

Posts in this thread will give me some feedback as to there being enough interest. From Video Deluxe 2.0 to Edit 12 or other Magix editors, if you use them and would be interested, post a note here.

Hey everyone,

I am new here so please be patient with me. I am also new to whole video shooting and editing. I have two HD camcorders (samsung handheld and a kodak playsport). That being said here is my question/issue. Both cameras record in clips. Each time I press record it records an entirely new clip. OK so that is fine I suppose but then when I import into imovie they get imported as clips. They import at full hi def resolution. I then create a project in iMovie and have to export said project to basically get a put together video (home movies are pretty much all i shoot). When I export through imovie I assume i am losinq quality since it being either compressed or something similar. What settings would be most beneficial to use to be able to keep as much of the originai HD video that I shot to begin with when exporting?

On another note, is there a different program out there that is mac os friendly and easy to use that would enable me to also keep the original video quality? Thanks in advance!!!!

Hello again friends!

In Studio 14 HD, whenever I try to edit an individual clip (say, decrease the time duration of it) the music I added to the music tab also decreases...which messes up the overall performance. How do I disable this VERY annoying feature?

EDIT: Nevermind, I am an idiot...there is a locking mechanism right next to the tab. Sorry for this post.

I am a long time video editor using Pinnacle Studio and Adobe Premiere Elements however, I have NEVER had any experience with the following and would like some pointers as to how I go about getting a quality product.

We just had an anniversary party for a relative. I filmed alot of the event. My brother also filmed a lot of the event on a separate camcorder.

Now I have (2) tapes - mine and my brothers and I need to put them together to make one movie. In particular, there was a speech. I filmed the speaker and my brother filmed the guest reactions to the speech. What is the easiest way to edit the video so that I can transition from the speaker to the reaction shots and vice versa?

Any other tips for editing in this situation would be GREATLY appreciated as well.

I hope the above is even possible in Premiere Elements and/or Studio. <fingers crossed>

Thanks in advance!

I am using a GL2, and am filming an educational video which will have much of the footage voiced over with narration. Because of this, I filmed the footage so far (2 days worth) with the mic adapter connected to the mic input on the camera, but I did not connect the mic to the adapter (being a complete newbie, I thought for some reason this would be better than having sound generated from the GL2's mic). My question is, with what I have done so far, will I still be able to add the narration (i am using Sony Vegas)? Second question - is it better to film the way I filmed so far, or film with the sound from the GL2's mic?

Hi all, I recently bought a JVC GY-HD110u for my primary camera and already have a Canon HF10 AVCHD camera that will be used mostly for wide shots and b-roll. My question is: now that my main camera is running tape, I am considering selling the canon to buy maybe an hv30 or some other consumer grade HDV format camera so that I don't have to pull the monster JVC out every time I need to capture. Would this be a reasonable move or would I be better off keeping the HF10 and buying a MiniDV VCR that I can use for capture? I am usually a fan of multitaskers over one-trick ponies, but I really love the HF10 and I can't decide which would be the better move. Obviously the HV30 would be the cheaper option since I could probably find someone to trade with, and it wouldn't really cost me much out of pocket. Also would I have to get a VCR that is meant for HD tape or would any one work since it matters mostly what the image was recorded in and not transferred? I hope my questions aren't stupid sounding but I have very little experience with tape decks.

Thanks in advance and I hope I have made sense of my querry.

I am a newbie. I need everything :(  What I want to do is weekend horse shows, and cheer comps, etc. sell dvd's at the show, hopefully same day edits. So I don't know if I need a laptop, or one of those Magic Boxes that will do it all and spit out a awesome dvd. Just kidding. I've been looking at Casablanca S4000, the Applied Magic Screenplay Epic, and Newtek. All of those units are quite pricey.  I have been serching online at reviews for weeks and I am so confused. My only knowlege is Pinnacle studio 9-12, but I really want something nicer and that doesn't crash so much.

So my needs are:Â 1-Editing system thats portable, (and EASY)a a pro camcorder, I would like HD, and it needs to be something that will be good for working in arenas and outside.Â

I wish I could just buy a (used)studio in a box, there are just so many decisions.

Thanks Tammi

Now, I bought a Sony Vaio VGN series and had "blue screen" issues when trying to capture video from my Canon Gl2

using Adobe Premier several times, I did a very extensive research and found that other people in the world has had this problem with this laptop.

I sold it very cheap because of this and I am now ready to by a new one and I like to hear from the experts what laptop

recommend me for this. My budget is 900 dlls and I have a Best Buy store very close to where I am.

I am starting a new tv show in my city (small show) and will edit my sketches myself, I am using the laptop for this, will

use Adobe premier and sometimes (If I learn fast) After Effects.

I have 2 consumer camcorders. A Sony DCR-TRV260 (Digital 8) and DCR-TRV27 (Mini DV).

I frequently have to record an event with both, and then come back and edit using Adobe Premiere Pro.

When I record, the Digital 8 camcorder is stationary on a stand and the Mini DV is mobile. The Digital 8 records the entire event and I use the Mini DV to capture some close ups and different angles. The problem I am having is trying to sync everything up when I get back to Adobe Premiere.

I know there is something called time code and SMPTE, but I’m not sure if that is what I need to accomplish what I need to do.  If I am missing something, I would greatly appreciate any help, suggestions or links.

Thanks in advance!

Howcast Studios is looking for beginner filmmakers to produce stellar how-to shorts for Howcast.com - one of Time Magazine's 50 Best Websites of 2008.

Boycalgery has set up a new chat room for all of us at his forum ! He and I have been talking about a MEP users group. What we would like to do is form a Users Group much like what some of the other NLE's have. It would be a place where MEP users can meet, talk, discuss video and issues with MEP plus also socialize and get to know each other.
His forum is the core of that group. There MEP users can ask technical questions and get answers.

To start the group we thought it would be a good idea to have a chat room where we can talk and discuss video. So Boycalgery set up the chat room there.

Thursday Night (USA 08/07/08 8:00pmcst) we will have our first chat session. We would like to invite you if you can be in the chat room at that time! :DÂ :D

If we can get some folks to come then we will have a regular chat room meeting Each Thursday Night! If there is interest then we plan to expand on the idea and set up a Showcase area to feature your videos and some other things. Of course all of this is free.

So, we'd like to see you in the chat room Thursday Night!!! Just come to the forum and click on the Chat Room link at the top of the page. We will be there to greet you!

This is a bold idea and we would like you to come and participate, Perhaps we can build a core group to keep it going!

We hope to see you in the Chat Room Thursday night!!!
