Nowcomer to video editing - How can I produce and burn the best possible quality DVDs (not AVHCDs or BDs). I can produce and burn excellent quality short videos to DVD when burning in AVCHD format, and that plays well on my desktop computer and on the flat screen TV, but it won't play on my lower powered laptop computer, which is probably similar to what friends and family have. Videos which I burn using the DVD format will play on the laptop, but they're horrible - extremely noisy, even somewhat pixelated. Adding video denoise suppresses some noise, but destroys most details. I'm using Cybelink Power Director 10 as the editing program - very happy with it.

Hi there,

I'm trying to find out how to do this without loosing quality. I've got to make a product show for my friend when he goes to his presentation. The video will run from a DVD to a Monitor via a HDMI to DVI cable.

Yet it seems this method causes to much quality to be lost. I'm not sure what video setup I should use.

For instance PAL DV 720x576 (16:9) which has the 1.4 pixel aspect ratio OR

use the square pixels PAL DV which is 1050x576.

Can anyone clarify which would be the best or an alternative, I was thinking maybe just creating it in 1080P then running it from a computer?

Thanks.

I have a question regarding Adobe Premiere Elements 8, not the Pro version.

I've looked everywhere I can think to answer this and have come up blank.

Say I have three or more saved projects (like baseballgame1, baseballgame2 and

baseballgame3). Is there a way I can join them in one time line so I can add start and end point and save them to DVD as a longer movie with tabs on the opening screen for the DVD? You could click the game1 tab to watch baseballgame1, click game2 tab to watch baseballgame2, etc. The underlying question is how to you combine projects to a larger project?

Thank you

Hello, I am new to the duplication field, and was hoping you could give me some suggestions on extremely fast DVD/Blu Ray duplicators. I dont need any printing, just burning. I need a machine that can preferably duplicate a ~4GB DVD every 30 seconds or less and the same for a Blu Ray as well. I know these are extremely high standards, but I am willing to look into a machine that can do this that is priced up to $50,000.

Thanks, and any help would be very appreciated.

I am at witts end here. Posting this now because I just cant find the solution after hours searching.

I want to burn my AVCHD files (Canon HFS10) to a DVD to watch on a Blu ray player. I dont have a BD burner. I understand this can be done, but am looking for the most simple method or software to do this. Is there there a single program that can do this? I tried IMGburn without luck. I have found exactly this for Mac,  http://www.shedworx.com/revolverhdmac , but I have a PC, and Shedworx is not planning to release a PC version. Any simple, one stop solution like this for PC? Thanks in advance for any input.

I am a beginner. Our video is only seven minutes long, so I don't think actually space on the disc is an issue. The footage was shot in 1080p, and edited with Sony Vegas Pro. Is there a way to keep it at this quality? We aren't sure which options we should choose when rendering in Sony Vegas--we think MPEG2. But we tried that and then we burned it (with Windows DVD Maker) and the video was squished horizontally. What are we missing?

navyspecwarfare on "Sony Vegas Project Template vs. Render"

So, sometimes I am a bit confused about the difference between setting up the Sony Vegas template vs. the render settings.

I am assuming that the template is supposed to match my media. In other words, if I shot in HD, I should make sure my template matches those HD settings. If I shot in SD, I should make sure the template matches that such as NTSC DV 720x480.

I am also assuming that you just render to whatever media you want your final project on.

So, in my case, I have footage shot in HD. I want to edit it in Vegas, yet I want to have the option to output it to both HD Bluray and SD DVD.

Is it as simple as me just setting up the template in HD, then choosing to render as either HD for BluRay or SD for DVD? Setting up the template in HD for editing but then rendering to SD will not cause issues will it?!

Many thanks.

<p class="post">

When I drop my AVCHD .mts clips from my Canon HF10
camera into Sony Vegas Platinum
(consumer version), and then use the make DVD wizard, it renders and
then sends my media files to DVD architect 4.5 and then burns my DVD to
look spectacular. This is fantastic because my project I'm working on
is going on
4.7GB DVDs for commercial DVD players or computers. I simply shot in HD
because I wanted the option in the future to burn to Blu-ray, but won't
be doing that as of yet.

I don't want to use Sony Vegas Platinum though....I want more
advanced options and more options later for BluRay, etc etc etc and thus
need to edit, render, send the edited/rendered files to DVD architect
pro 5.0, and then burn to DVD using Sony Vegas Pro, not Platinum.

Sony Vegas Pro does not have this streamlined "make DVD" option like
the nice consumer version does.
After editing in Vegas Pro, I have to manually render my project using
the plethora
of options available, which honestly, I don't know much about. I've
tried rendering using NTSC widescreen for DVD architect (MPEG-2), I've
tried HDV with high settings, etc etc etc and when I drop these rendered
files into DVD Architect, they don't turn out well quality-wise like
they did in Sony Vegas Platinum using the automatic make DVD settings.Â
I
simply want to render these edited .mts files to a format that DVD
architect will like and then burn in high quality so my DVDs look good
on any DVD player with a standard monitor or HD monitor. Vegas
Platinum
does a great job, but it's unknown to me what it is doing behind the
scenes to render my files before it sends them off to DVD architect.
Obviously it works great given my test with Vegas Platinum and native
.mts files, but I have no idea what Vegas Platinum is doing to convert
or render these editing .mts files to make them still high quality and
smooth for DVD architect. I just need to know how to replicate this
process manually in Vegas Pro and I'm set.

So to recap, and in a nutshell, I need to know what render settings
to choose in Vegas Pro after editing my .mts files natively so I can
then send them over to DVD architect pro 5.0 and burn my project to a
DVD without loss of visual quality.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have Magix Movie Edit HD 17 Plus Pro. I can burn a regular sidebyside dvd but when plyed on a 3Dplayer, it does not recognize it as a 3D disk.

Can Magix Movie Edit HD 17 Plus Pro create a disc that is recognizable to a 3Dplayer and 3DTV? If so, how? I use both .avi from fuijifilm w3 and .mts from JVC TD1.

I made several discs, data, mpeg, avi, and standard dvd, but sidebyside and non of them worked when I took it to Bestbuy to test on the latest players.

Also, Magix Movie Edit HD 17 Plus Pro doesn't recognize JVC's MVC files. Do I have to export MVC files as left and right and then sync into 3D?

Hi, not sure the best place to put this question but I'm looking for confirmation that I'm using the best settings at each stage to produce the highest quality DVD. I'm recording hockey games, editing the video, then burning to DVD. Here are the details:

Recording using Vixia HF200 HD camcorder. Set to MXP, highest quality, 24 mbps.

Copying *.mts files to PC and using Sony Vegas 9.0 to edit.

Rendering to *.mpg and using DVD Architect to create/burn DVD.

Alternatively, are there more efficient ways to do this and get the same results? Such as using the FXP mode to record and use less memory if it will retain the same quality?

Thanks in advance for any advice and guidance!

I recently purchased a Panasonic TM700 after reading all the positive reviews.

My question is after recording high definition video that looks great on your computer and also looks great playing directly from you camcorder to your television. Have you beenable to burn a DVD that has that same clean crisp image?

I know that blu-ray would maintainhigher quality. But have you had success burning DVDs that play on standard players withoutgetting soft rather than crisp images?
I edited some clips in Premiere Pro CS4 on my little MAC and exported it out to a quicktime .mov file.
I tried burning one yesterday ... the footage looks good until it is burned to DVDwhen a obvious loss of sharpness is evident. It doesn't look terrible, but it is not near as good as the original footage.

Have you had to deal with this yet? And if so, do you have an answer for it yet?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I am looking for a way to simutaneously show a dvd (Blu_ray or Standard Def) and record it to an external hard drive at the same time. Is there a blu-ray player that enables external hard drives to be connected for recording purposes and if so will the dual operation of show/record degrade the quality of the video output.

Hi everyone,

As a student with not a lot of cash to spend on making movies, I am always looking for good ideas for saving money. I noticed that even 2nd hand LCD monitors are really expensive, and my cameras are ancient relics that don't have the luxury of a flip-out LCD screen (and those are not perfect anyway and make us all look a bit like "tourists"), so I hit on the idea of using a portable DVD player for the same purpose. This is a really cheap way to do things, probably under $100 depending on how fancy you want to get.

I think it will work provided I can find one that accepts RCA video in, which is the deal breaker really. I feel like they should accept aux input from another device, but I am not sure that the manufacturers are that smart.

The benefits:

1. Large clear screen that can display in 16:9 or 4:3

2. Can create a CD with mpg "teleprompter" content on it, for cuing dialog

3. Can play movies on long, boring trips to shooting locations

4. Less hassles with customs guys at international borders because they know what a dvd player is and don't think it is some fancy piece of professional equipment that should attract a high import duty.

So it looks like a sweet idea, but risky because I don't know if these things do accept external input. So if any of the readers here have one of these portable DVD players at home, it would be really excellent if you could check out what your player is capable of and post some details for the rest of us.

If I am right then it could be a good way for the low-budget videomakers amongst us to save a few dollars.

Thanks

G'day Guys,

I guess using current vernacular I would be considered a newbie. I'd like to give a brief description of my gear and then pose my question. Here goes; Canon XH A1s and shooting HD (PAL). Avid media composer 5 and that's about it.

I am fumbling my way through the AVID but so far have had what I consider reasonable results. Results from the camera viewed on TV (component out) the results are awesome. Viewing on my 24'' computer monitor in the AVID is also top quality. BUT... when I export/send to - it all falls apart. The results I get when I try to burn a DVD are poor I don't really know what format or whatever else to do/use to get good results. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions, mean time I'll continue happily fumbling.

I have my first paying project underway and the client and I both admit this will be a journey for us both to learn from. The project: DVD to supplement 8 lessons that will accompany the printed workbook lessons. Each of the 8 lessons need to be a 10 minute lecture from my client. Sounds easy and straight forward, but when I go to capture we end up starting/stopping/re-capturing...In post I am doing WAY to much work piecing everything together. The client has her colleagues critique her work from what I post on Vimeo and they give her great constructive feedback - she is talking too slow, she needs to talk more from a script, smile more, etc.

My question - what is my role in helping her get there? Am I just there to capture and edit? Should I be coaching her more? Those of you that have tons of experience with making DVDs that are not of your own writing/ideas, what does your role look like while capturing? OR what is your role during pre-production - any examples of the storyboards that you could post?

I understand storyboards and with a 10 minute lecture, there isn't much to storyboard...So how do I get my client to understand basics - START with an introductory sentence....

Thanks!

Use Pinnacle Studio 14 and Premiere Elements 7 to create HD movies on DVD. Quality about 70% as compared to viewing camcorder directly connected HD TV. Have Canon HFS100 and video files are mts. Have camcorder set to max resolution. No luck in experimenting with various camcorder settings and video editor settings. Should i expect this degradation?

I wasn't one of the throngs who went to see Avatar in theaters. I waited 'til it came out on DVD. Well for $20 bucks I got what you usually get for only $15... just the movie, no special features whatsoever. Thank God I didn't spend $25 bucks on the Blu-Ray 'cause it was the same deal. Despite gettin' jipped, here's the 'making of Avatar' video that should have been on the DVD. It's 25 minutes long but if you've got the time, it's worth a look.

I work for a multi-media production company and we are using a Pioneer PRV-LX1 DVD Recorder to record various sources on the fly and in real time. Now, this is an industrial DVD recorder and while it doesn't have a whole lot of features compared to maybe a home unit, it does do some different things & has worked flawlessly. However, is there any way of deleting a recording from a DVD-R so it won't be readable (or show up in the menu) when the disk is finalized.

I realize that I would lose a certain amount of space on the disc. What happens occasionally is that one might record a source, but then a few minutes into it, realize something was not set properly and the recording has to be done again from the beginning. The errors usually involve not changing the bitrate to the needed length or having the source deck's time code displayed wrong for burring into the new DVD. Anyway, recordings are needed for ONE continuous chapter only and not multiple chapters on the disc. So even if the disc has been recorded on for 20secs when you realize you have to start all over, the DVD-R has to be thrown out and a new one is needed.

I also realize that DVD-R discs are not that expensive so it really hasn't been a huge issue anyway, but I guess its more of a personal reason & I just want to know if it can be done on this Pioneer DVD recorder. My home Panasonic DVD recorder can simply delete it (or maybe more appropriately "hide") the recording from a DVD-R so it doesn't show up on the DVD menu & can't be played later on, but I can't seem to figure out if this Pioneer does it.

I'm thinking it has something to do with "projects" that I see in one of the menu sections, but not sure either. This maybe be something related to its internal hard drive. Any help or suggestion on how to do this since we no longer have the manual either?

Hi,

I'm new on here, so be gentle :) I'm just getting back into filming after many years, the last time I was on an official course in TV & Film production we were using betamax!

I've recently been tasked with the honour of producing a DVD for a voluntary group I work with and have so far managed to get the following items: A Toshiba K80HE Camcorder (just won on ebay and awaiting) and a copy of Pinnacle Studio 14 HD.

I'm on a really tight budget hence the cheaper model HD camcorder, but as I progress further into this hobby I'd like to look at upgrading as I go.

On the basis that my budget for cameras is around the £200 mark, I'm obviously interested in second-hand models and was wondering how the quality of different formats compared? I have an old JVC VHSC model I got in New York around 13 years ago, and although it works fine, the picture quality and mono sound aren't going to make a good DVD.

So if I was looking at a good semi-pro camera a few years old, what format would still give the quality needed for DVD production? Hi8, MiniDV, Digital 8 etc?

I'm ideally after a full sized unit rather than the compact models as I already have a good solid tripod and intend to use it.

Thanks guys, any advice greatly appreciated.
