Hi All,

I am looking for some advice on not only organizing my project files but also making sure I have everything backed up in the most efficient manner possible. Right now I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and I have two Hard-drives (500GB) and an external Hard-drive (1TB). I have had to reformat often due to Hard-drive failures and corrupt Windows OS.

I would love to know what everyone does to keep their files backed up and organized so that reformatting the Hard-drive that contains the operating system is as quick and painless as possible. How am I able to easily "re-link" assets and find projects? My situation doesn't seem that complicated, but please be as specific as possible with your response. Thank you for your time and advice!

-Orpheus

P.S. If this is in the wrong forum, sorry!

Hey everybody, I use Production Premium CS4 and need help on the dynamic link between PP and AE. I right-click on a clip in PP, selecting 'Replace with After Effects Composition'. All works well and I make the changes required in AE. The changed footage is also displayed in PP. I save both AE and PP. As soon as I close AE, the footage in PP is replaced with a still image indicating that the link is broken. When I re-open AE, the clips' link is also broken. Why is the link broken as soon as I exit AE?

I'll appreciate it if someone could please help me.

Hello everyone,

I am brand new to this forum as of like 5 minutes ago. I have a project I need to get finished and ran into a encoding/compiling error.

Here's the deal:

I am making a wedding video that I filmed. I would say 85% of it was shot onto mini HDV while the rest was done with a camera that uses AVCHD. The problem came when I exported the ceremony clip. We shot the ceremony with both cameras (both formats). CS4 let me bring import both into my timeline and i worked with both without a problem. Come time to encode and I get an "unknown error". I realized that it was saving the video up to the point where the AVCHD format first shows up. Sooo i copied my work and in the copy took out all the AVCHD material and walla .. it encoded.

My question/problem:

Is there any export settings or sequence settings that will allow me to have both formats in my timeline and still be able to encode the movie/scene? Or is this even my problem? Feel free to let me know what I am doing wrong or where i misspoke; I have been away from the movie editing hobby for a long time..

thanks,

I don't know if this is the right place to ask these questions...
I've been puzzled about wheter it's legal to buy and use software from the US and use it outside the US boarders e.g in Europe?

I've been thinking of buying Adobe Production Premium CS5 when it is comes out, God willing. The price in the US is about 1600$ whereas in Europe it's nearly 2400â?¬ which is about 3600$ currently. So it's a huge difference and I wouldn't want to spend so much extra for nothing.

So is it legal or not???

Also I'd like to know wheter this is a safe site to buy software from?
http://videoguys.com/

Has anyone bought software or anything from here? Would anyone recommend buying from videoguys.com?

When in Muti camera editing in CS4 there is this delay between camera switching for approx. 3-4 secs.

I am however editing two different formats. MPG4 & AVCHD. Can anyone tell me if this may be related to using two different codecs simultaneously and if so can I incorporate the AVCHD codec in a manner that might improve the situation.

I was gonna have a custom computer built for editing. But found out here in my local area, Mac is the standard everyone uses. And if it requires more, you rent it. And realized i should get a mac. I will get a nice discount due to accademic pricing on all software and computers i get. But stuck on which Mac model I should get.

I'd like to get a Mac Mini. Since I'm looking at price first. It's a desktop, but still portable if needed. But does it have the Memory, graphic and processing power to edit video with Adobe Premiere, and other Production Suite Apps? I think it does. But id like to make sure before i go out and get one.

The other option I'm looking at is a Macbook Pro. As it has the 8 gigs of memory without getting the full blown mac pro...which i do NOT have the money to get no mater how much I'd like to have it. But its a considerable price increas just to have the extra 4 gigs of memory that the Mac Mini cant have (The Macbook pro im looking at even has the same graphics card as the Mini.)

Or could i just get a plain old Macbook for full portability? does that have the power to use Production Premiere and company? Thanks to anyone who can help me

Hey all,

I’m a student in media and communication currently doing
production among other things, previously I did live TV production. As I am
still learning (and forever will be!) I have found this site tremendously
helpful and am hoping the community can help or point me to relevant articles.

What I want help with is in After Effects. I have some use
with it, though I’m not nearly as comfortable with it as I am in Premiere,
which is not to say I am a pro or anything. So, bare with me as I ask:

What is a composition exactly and what is it
used for exactly? Some tutorials require you to make a composition, others do
not, meaning you throw footage in and use it. Is it like Sequences in premiere,
where, once you create one you can insert the entire sequence in another which
encompasses all the edits as opposed to copying and pasting everything on the
timeline into another sequence? I know that a sequence is created automatically
when you don’t create one.

I look at tutorials that require a lot of
masking. I’ve done some, such as replacing what you see on a TV screen, but say
you want to do special effects where you first have an exploding sausage and
want to make it look like an exploding head, I seem to not grasp the concept of
masking nor can I find anything online to show me the basics. I know the pen
tool is used as a mask when you want t draw something specific, but aside from
this I seem to be lost, for example, by not knowing which footage in the above
scenario would you put as number 1 or 2.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've purchased a samsung hmx-h105 and I'm trying to edit in numerous programs with no luck. I just get stuttering video and rendering takes forever.
I'm using Premiere CS4, Pinnacle Studio 12, Windows Movie Maker (which won't even acknowlege the files.
I have an HP HDX-18t, dual core 2.8 processor w/ 6gig RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M video card running on Windows Vista 64-bit.
I thought this computer would be plenty powerful enough to work in HD, but I'm becoming very frustrated. I've tried it in 1080i and 720p (both in H.264 video format)with no luck.
Is this format any different than other HD cameras or do I just need to give up the HD dream.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi,

a funny problem have been anoying me from the first time I've tried Premiere CS4. When I import movie files and shall begin to edit them, the image of the movie moves so much faster than the sound, wich is in realtime. This problem does not exist in Premiere Pro 2.0, wich I also have installed on my comp, so I guess it's something smelly with the new graphic card acceleration and all the new functions.

My computer should be good enough to use CS4. Use nvidia Geforce 8800 Gts 640 mb.

Anyone else had this problem? And any ideas of how it could be solved?

Is quickly becoming one of my new favs to edit with... why is it that everyone assumes CS4, AVID & Final Cut are the end all be all in the editing process? I personally, like the idea of spending 80 bucks on a program like this. It's offers a ton of customization options & is extremly user friendly! The only big difference is that with titles & effects (chromakey) CS4 obviously offers more... but whadya you think?

Has anyone used the Adobe CS3 Production Premium and then upgraded to the CS4 version?

I see that CS4 is missing Ultra from the bundle. Has this bothered anyone, or is it more convenient that way? If you upgrade, do you get to keep Ultra?

It might be more convenient, since I'm thinking most chroma keying can be effectively done with After Effects and Premiere, so Ultra isn't needed. Am I right?

"What an incredible two days of training! If I had known HOW MUCH FUN I was in store for at your seminar, I wouldn’t have packed my schedule so tight. I was thoroughly overwhelmed after the FIRST session!!! AWESOME!!!! Thank you, Larry Jordan!"

"You won't find a more entertaining or informative teacher!"

"Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed the recent stop of your tour. I learned so much -- for me, it is money (and time) in the bank!"

"My Final Cut skills are self-taught, this one seminar changed my life!"

"Highly recommend, very useful for editors like myself...This seminar will save me SO much time!"
