I have been given a clip that was shot in 16:9 format (clip A). The presentation movie is in 4:3 (movie B). I have to edit the 16:9 clip and incorporate it into the 4:3 movie.

What I have tried makes clip A figures, text, etc. look tall and skinny. How can I keep the aspect ratio so it will look good and fit in movie B? I don't know what to do.

What would the workflow be, step by step e.g. insert clip A then add text and effects, add text and effects then insert clip A, other? I have After Effects available if that would help accomplish what I need.

Thank you for your time.

Hey all,

I’m a student in media and communication currently doing
production among other things, previously I did live TV production. As I am
still learning (and forever will be!) I have found this site tremendously
helpful and am hoping the community can help or point me to relevant articles.

What I want help with is in After Effects. I have some use
with it, though I’m not nearly as comfortable with it as I am in Premiere,
which is not to say I am a pro or anything. So, bare with me as I ask:

What is a composition exactly and what is it
used for exactly? Some tutorials require you to make a composition, others do
not, meaning you throw footage in and use it. Is it like Sequences in premiere,
where, once you create one you can insert the entire sequence in another which
encompasses all the edits as opposed to copying and pasting everything on the
timeline into another sequence? I know that a sequence is created automatically
when you don’t create one.

I look at tutorials that require a lot of
masking. I’ve done some, such as replacing what you see on a TV screen, but say
you want to do special effects where you first have an exploding sausage and
want to make it look like an exploding head, I seem to not grasp the concept of
masking nor can I find anything online to show me the basics. I know the pen
tool is used as a mask when you want t draw something specific, but aside from
this I seem to be lost, for example, by not knowing which footage in the above
scenario would you put as number 1 or 2.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, I have a Canon HF20, and the camcorder requires me to use a certain software (Pixela ImageMixer 3) to load my HD footage into the computer.

Now, I want to import my footage into Premiere Pro CS3, but am unable to due to "unknown or damaged file format." The file is H.264 format and ends in .m2ts or just .mts. How can I get my footage into Premiere?

Hey all: OK I have a crappy emachine. On it I have 1.43 GB of RAM and a 1.91 GHz processor. From CS3, I needed Photoshop, InDesign and Premier Pro, but am likely in over my heard regarding resources, particularly with Premier Pro. I can't remember what the dialog box said but it was one of a few programs in CS3 during the analyzing process with a red X next to it I guess basically telling me my computer would not support it. I tried a separate download after I successfull got Photoshop and InDesign on but no go. I've been a writer for decades and am trying to upgrade my skills to get me a step up from dinosaur status, but am laid off with little money. I do want Premier Pro for a slideshow cottage industry I am considering. Do I need a faster processor? More memory (likely not, right?) Help?

Has anyone used the Adobe CS3 Production Premium and then upgraded to the CS4 version?

I see that CS4 is missing Ultra from the bundle. Has this bothered anyone, or is it more convenient that way? If you upgrade, do you get to keep Ultra?

It might be more convenient, since I'm thinking most chroma keying can be effectively done with After Effects and Premiere, so Ultra isn't needed. Am I right?

We have captured some 60 hours of DV tape using Adobe Premier Pro CS3 for a doc project. We (2 different shooters), realized that our varied and inconsistently named TAPE NAMES that are part of the Meta Data when captured, are causing problems for our editor when we create EDLs (Editing Decision Lists for use in his AVID system)

Is it possible to easily, or globally RENAME our Original captured Tape Names encoded using Bridge or another solution???

We would be most appreciate of a answer or an idea.......hopefully a quick fix! Its 4+ years work on this documentary project...and counting!

 Thank you!

Videoguys' Matrox RT.X2 LE FAQ

Our Videoguys HD editing experts have been getting a lot of questions about the exciting new Matrox RT.X2 LE and we'd like to share some of the most common answers with you to help you decide to get the Hardware Advantage today!

Part I - Introducing Matrox RT.X2 LE

What is the difference between Matrox RT.X2 LE and other capture cards?

Matrox RT.X2 LE is a real-time hardware accelerator. This means that
it is far more powerful then just a simple Input/Output capture card.
With Matrox RT.X2 LE you get real-time performance that goes beyond
what you can accomplish from software alone.

Can I edit HDV footage with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on its own? Why doI need a Matrox RT.X2 LE?

Although Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 software alone can edit HDV footage,
it's not going to give you the same smooth, quick editing environment
you are used to with DV footage. Not only does HD footage contain more
pixels and bits of information, the compressions used put a huge
burden on your systems resources. Matrox RT.X2 LE alleviates this
burden and editing HDV footage is a breeze. It is BETTER because it is
real-time!

So what exactly do you mean by real-time?

Matrox RT.X2 LE hardware allows you to play back multiple layers of HD
video and graphics directly from the Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 timeline
without rendering. That includes adding filters, transitions and
special effects. That's something that software can't do on its own,
even with the fastest quad core computers. For example; our DIY 6 Quad
Core machine with Matrox RT.X2 LE can play back a timeline that
includes two layers of HDV video with a slow motion filter on one
layer and color filters on the other, as well as a graphic overlay.
This plays back in real-time, directly from the timeline, with no
rendering!

For the rest of the RT.X2 Â FAQ, follow this link http://www.videoguys.com/rtx2le_faq.html

Any other solutions?Â
