<p class="post">

When I drop my AVCHD .mts clips from my Canon HF10
camera into Sony Vegas Platinum
(consumer version), and then use the make DVD wizard, it renders and
then sends my media files to DVD architect 4.5 and then burns my DVD to
look spectacular. This is fantastic because my project I'm working on
is going on
4.7GB DVDs for commercial DVD players or computers. I simply shot in HD
because I wanted the option in the future to burn to Blu-ray, but won't
be doing that as of yet.

I don't want to use Sony Vegas Platinum though....I want more
advanced options and more options later for BluRay, etc etc etc and thus
need to edit, render, send the edited/rendered files to DVD architect
pro 5.0, and then burn to DVD using Sony Vegas Pro, not Platinum.

Sony Vegas Pro does not have this streamlined "make DVD" option like
the nice consumer version does.
After editing in Vegas Pro, I have to manually render my project using
the plethora
of options available, which honestly, I don't know much about. I've
tried rendering using NTSC widescreen for DVD architect (MPEG-2), I've
tried HDV with high settings, etc etc etc and when I drop these rendered
files into DVD Architect, they don't turn out well quality-wise like
they did in Sony Vegas Platinum using the automatic make DVD settings.Â
I
simply want to render these edited .mts files to a format that DVD
architect will like and then burn in high quality so my DVDs look good
on any DVD player with a standard monitor or HD monitor. Vegas
Platinum
does a great job, but it's unknown to me what it is doing behind the
scenes to render my files before it sends them off to DVD architect.
Obviously it works great given my test with Vegas Platinum and native
.mts files, but I have no idea what Vegas Platinum is doing to convert
or render these editing .mts files to make them still high quality and
smooth for DVD architect. I just need to know how to replicate this
process manually in Vegas Pro and I'm set.

So to recap, and in a nutshell, I need to know what render settings
to choose in Vegas Pro after editing my .mts files natively so I can
then send them over to DVD architect pro 5.0 and burn my project to a
DVD without loss of visual quality.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have 20 DVDs worth of unedited .MTS files from a Canon Vixia HD prosumer camera.

I need to edit these using Sony Vegas, which supposedly supports .mts. Within Vegas however, when I preview my clips on the timeline, the quality is terrible. I get a single frame in the window every 2 or 3 seconds making editing impossible. Apparently this is a common problem with .mts.

How do I go about being able to edit .mts in Vegas? If that's not possible, how do I go about converting the .mts to a file that Vegas will support for smooth editing?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running 4GBs of DDR3, a Duo 2.26 Ghz processor, 1066 Mhz FSB, 3 MB L2, 320GB harddrive, and my project files are on external 500GB hard drive. I have the 512 MB NVIDEO GeForce 9600M GT in the laptop.

These must be for professional DVD output, so if I convert, I can't lose any visual quality for when I put them on DVD.

Nobody seems to have a definitive answer thus far...you guys are my last hope!!!!

I have a friend with a Core2Duo 2.26. He wants to get an AVCHD camera (Canon HF200). I think he uses Premiere.

If he converts the AVCHD files to .avi, can he edit this in Premiere with a Core2Duo at 2.26GHz? Or does he still need a CoreDuo Quad, in order to avoid stuttering during playback?

Thanks.

I am looking to put any video that goes on my website in the SWF format? It seems like I've been able to do it in Vegas before, but now that my computer's crashed and I had to re-install, I cannot save in the SWF or FLV format. I just want something handy where the user does not have to install software (or wait through long buffers).

Is there anything free that will convert DV-AVI to SWF? (p.s. I'd like it to add controls which their display can be turned off).

I have some recorded seminars done via WebEx. They are ARF files (I'm a PC
user) and the instructions from WebEx to convert these types of files is to
download the WebEx Network Recording player, and while playing the video go to
the File menu, choose Convert and choose a type, I've chosen the MPEG4 and
Windows media types, and each time it converted and saved locally, but when I
try to open either type in my NLE (Premiere Pro CS4), I just get the spinning
blue circle, in the lower right of the program is will say Converting (the name
of the video) but the progress bar will not show any progress, even though it
allowed me to import into the NLE, and then eventually it will say Not
Responding, and I will have to close the program. It has become an endless,
vicious, circle.

Any ideas of how to get these files into my NLE where I can work with them to
edit without it crashing the program every time?

I have some VHS video from a wedding to convert to a widescreen (if possible) DVD. Â It will ultimately be displayed by folks who want to just drop the disc in the player and enjoy without adjusting the DVD or blu-ray player to get the aspect right. Â I don't want it letterboxed because most of it is of people dancing and the original video has the dancers' heads near the very top of the frame and their feet near the very bottom, and letterboxing for the 1.78 (16:9) frame size will cut too close.

I thought I would be able to just add black sidebars to the 4:3 video thereby extending it out to widescreen, 16:9 width. Â If I can't do that, I'll just have to consign her to learning how to use her player to make the best presentation of it.

I've looked long and hard at DVDxDV Pro, and Final Cut Express' Widescreen Filter, and I haven't seen the ability to add sidebars. Â Anybody have any ideas?

In Newtek Tricaster, there is a transition I'd like to use in a personal video production. These files are in the dve or dvf format. When I saved one to a flash drive and tried to import into Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, I received a non supported file type message and wasn't able to bring it into the NLE. Is there any way to convert this (these) file type(s) into something I can use in Premiere Pro?

Greetings everyone. This is going to be long but I have to explain it.

I am in the process of converting about 100 DVD's that were of family events, to AVI so I can edit them. These DVD's were converted from VHS tapes using a Sony dual deck system about 5 years ago. I also have about 30 Video8 analog tapes to convert to AVI.

I purchased 123DVDConverter from DVDVideoTool.com to convert the DVD's. My problem is that at some point on many, but not all DVD's, the converting results in pure static at some point during the process, usually near the end. The process continues to the end of the reading from the disk, then the conversion stops. If I play the disk with Windows Media Player, it plays to the end just fine. The conversion though, ends in static at some point. But it gets much worse.

I purchased the Canopus ADVC110 Video Converter along with Pinnacle 14 Ultimate and Adobe Premier Elements. I plug my Sony Video8 outputs into the ADVC110 and then a firewire to my computer. I start the conversion with either program, and all looks fine. However, at times, the digitized results turn into static, but if I look at the viewfinder of the camera, the playback is fine! This happened with the Pinnacle 510 converter as well!

I am stumped! Two different programs, two different media, two completely different processes, but the same frequent problem! The video output turns to static at some point during the process. My computer is a high end quad core, and the graphics card is an 8800 GTS. I try to convert a disk a second time, and the switch to static happens about at the same spot each time.

When I installed the 123DVDConverter on my 5 year old laptop, and try to convert the same DVD, it goes all the way though to the end without problems! Something must be wrong with my big computer? But what?

Any suggestions on what the hell is going on here? Much of the video is of me at the South Pole, Antarctica, when I wintered over in 85-86. This video stuff is addicting, and my wife says I need a hobby, but I cannot get past this intermittent problem. I have lost confidence that my conversions are complete. Thanks for any ideas!

OK, my hair is hurting. I have moved from HD tape to AVCHD. It's a whole new world! Editing in Pinnacle 12.1 plus use to be a delight. I could download from tape effortlessly at real time speed. Editing (for the most part) was quick and easy. Life was good....Now, armed with my new Canon HF20 camera and a new Buffalo Blue-ray disc waiting in the wings, I tententively entered the world of AVCHD. Downloads are horribly long (hours). Processing of the files is also long. PC performance (P4 with 2Gig mem and 512 video) is back to the 80's and my old 286!! Well, maybe not THAT bad. Until I can improve my computer performance (I'm thinking Cray), I have come to the conclusion that I need to convert these .mts files into a format that will keep my video and audio in tack, but, allow me to bring the converted files into Pinnacle for easier editing - like the old days. I'll part my BR disc until the PC is upgraded. So, here are my specific questions:

What converting format would best maintain the intregity of my work and allow me to continue to use Pinnacle?

What is the best converter (I'm not rich) out there in the market?

If I convert .MTS files to another format, can I still have the 1080 quality available to show and/or burn?

Finally, I have an hour of AVCHD recorded that I want to edit (Pinnacle) and burn onto regular Def DVD's. Would this change the type of file I would need to convert to?

Â

I have an AVI file which properties are: 576x432, BitRate:168kpbs, Duration:100mins, 29.97fps, NTSC.

When I try to import it into P.Pro 1.5 into an NTSC session, it will not import, probably because of the unusual frame size?? (dont know for sure).

I am trying ultimatley to produce a PAL Mpeg2 file so I can later auther it in Encore. I use a program called ''ConvertXtoDVD3" which I can succesfully convert the original AVI file to a PAL Vob file.

Then I use a program called 'MagicConverter' to convert the new Vob file to Mpeg2 with :720x576, 25fps.

The resulting Mpeg2 file plays on windows media player, although now it says it's only 16minutes long.

I then create a PAL session in P.Pro 1.5 and import the new Mpeg2 file. It imports fine, however it now says the duration is only 16 minutes even though it should be 100mins. Also if I try to edit it in any way, all the audio comes out of sync and the whole thing seems to play random parts of the video.

Can anyone tell me why this new Mpeg2 file I've converted will not work in P.Pro and the timings and everything is off???? Thanks.

I am new to the forum and new to video. I purchased a Cannon HFS100. I will be recording short 2 minute segments that I will connect together in a video editing program, I am currently testing them all. I have been shooting in the highest resolution and am exporting the AVCHD files to my PC.

My question....

I am looking to do three things with the files, (1) post them on my website for online streaming (2) post them on my website for user download so they can burn to DVD or watch on their PC and (3) post them on my website for IPOD download.

I am wondering is there is a 1 format fits all for question 1&2 that would allow me to keep the HD quality of the video in tact. I have tried multiple formats, WMV 1080 30p, Mpeg 2, HDV 720P.

In reading a lot of different forums I am more confused then ever. I would love to convert them to MP4, however, the quality when I do this (or mpeg 2) for that matter looks horrible.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I wanted to to show everybody an Amazing way to convert VHS to DVD. I use a machine called the Panasonic DMR-EH75V. Its an amazing system and it works like heck. It records Progressive scan and is completely customizable. It also has an HDMI output. The thing is also a DVR. So you can record tapes, DVD's, and live TV to the DVR then do anything you want with it. Like put it on a VHS (not recommended for "state of the art people") And slap it on a DVD. By the way You can creat menus and Edit out commercials for things recorded from the tv. It also has an S VIDEO in and out, RCA inputs and a four prong IEED (firewire) input for recording directly to DVD.

One bad thing, It costs around $300. But if you do full time videomaking for money it will pay for itself. You can also get it off ebay for mondo cheap prices. I recomend getting as many as possible for faster burning, because it is real time and you need to wait for the tape to play all the way through. I like to set up a little studio with multiple copiers lined up with cheap, small tv's or monitors on top of them.

What do you guys think of this? Do you think its worth it? if anyone owns one tell us about it?

 Hey guys!

My parents (yes! I am a teenager!) had a 8mm camcorder (Many, many years ago!)  and now they have a lot of 8mm tapes with precious and adorable memories... So, as i am the ´´video maker´´ of the family, (i think that) is my responsability to recover these memories!

I have a HP Media Center m8034n with a ´´ yellow, white, and red ´´ (i don´t remember the name of that cable) input, so I was thinking that maybe i could use this input to somehow transfer the videos in 8mm to my PC and then, after some editing, burn a DVD with the videos!

Just a small detail: I don´t have any idea how to do this, and i need help from you guys!

PLEASE, i really don´t want my family spending hundreds and hundreds of bucks only to put some old videos into DVDs....

So, if yous guys have any info about this, i would be really thankful!

P.S.: My parents still have the 8mm camcorder (i am shocked, too), so if i need the camcorder to transfer the video to my PC, it´s ok.

P.S.S: I really dont know how to use the ´´yellow, white, and red´´ input, so if you guys know how to use it (like to connect a DVD player to my PC, or something like that...) i would be really glad if you could teach me how to use it...i dont have a software or anything like it, but i do have the Windows Media Center (of windows vista) if it can help...

I know that i probally wrote a lot of idiot things, but i am really new into this ´´movie making´´ thing....    :)

Thanks for all the help,

I am converting .TOD files, to MPG. Is that the best way to go, to try keep the high definition video quality? Or should I go to AVI.. or something else?
