I have an Audio Technica 1800 series wireless system, but want to upgrade with a plug-on transmitter. Do I have to buy the same series and brand Audio Technica plug-on or can I for instance buy a completely other brand (ie:Sennheiser)? Somebody please help!

Hi, I am looking to purchase either a Canon XH-A1s or a Sony HDR-FX1000. I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 running on a mid 2009 17" MacBook Pro. I understand the 60i mode of both cameras will work with FCE.

Will the progressive modes work? I have a Canon HF200 which records 24p and 30p in a 60i wrapper which I can edit as 30fps in FCE (I don't use 24p so much because of motion artifacts due to pulldown, and 30p looks good enough). This is similar to how the FX1000 records the progressive modes, so I'm guessing 30p should work.

The XH-A1s however records true 24 and 30 fps progressive (the F modes) video to tape. Will I be able to capture 30fps video from this camera using FCE?

I'm leaning more towards the FX1000 due to apparently better optics and lower price. Lack of XLR audio is not a big problem for me (I can just get a Beachtek adaptor when I need it).

I don't need (and can't justify) FCP/FCS right now. Video is a hobby for me, albeit a serious one. I am basically looking to upgrade to a fully manual camera compatible with FCE.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi, I recently got a Canon HF200. I am now looking
for an external microphone (one
that plugs into the mic terminal).
Just out of curiosity I plugged
in a regular headset mic (the
jack is compatible). However, it does
not record anything. The in-built
microphone cuts out when I
plug in the headset mic, but
there is no sound. I have
already tried manually increasing
the gain.

So the question is, is this to be
expected, or is there a problem
with the mic terminal? The camera
is brand new and everything else
works (including the headphones).

Any suggestions/insights?

I've been shooting video with a Sony HVR-A1U for a website. I don't have the money to buy a deck for capturing to Final Cut and I could use a spare camera for catching B-roll. Is the HDR-HC9 compatible enough to do both of these jobs well? If not can anyone suggest an affordable alternative ($500-$900)?
