Not only did you offer him a deal, but the video example could be (way) more tightly edited and have better sound quality... if that seems like his 'ideal' ad spot, AND he isn't willing to discuss numbers, maybe it's not going to be a good relationship to persue.

There is a company in St. Louis that charges a minimum of $2500 for a commercial so your rates are very reasonable.

Hello, I'm a graphic designer but have done some small video projects in the past. I was approached by a potential client wanting 130 1 minute commercials for his custom pen website. I attached the following proposal, thinking my rates are fair and he's telling me to quote him lower (even though he won't get other quotes nor tell me a budget he has in mind!) Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!!

----

$225 per 1 minute commercial (10% discount based on 150+ commercials, anything under 150 is $250)

(includes script, filming, producing, directing, equipment, editing, rendering)

Minus $20 per commercial if script is provided.

I viewed a few videos from discountmugs.com and I could guarantee a higher production value than their commercials.

If the price fits into your budget, the next step would be to hire an actor/actress. Unless you have someone in mind you would like to be the spokesperson, I highly recommend that I hire a professional. I'm hoping to find one for $10 per commercial (based on 150 commercials is $1500 and I'm estimating 30 hours of filming required for this project.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?<wbr></wbr>v=8fFJb_FnCF0&feature=player_<wbr></wbr>embedded

Sample of what he showed me he wants for 130 of his products.

I normally charge mileage and what's considered to be reasonable and customary expenses (hotel etc). I never charge for actual travel time (driving to and from) within the US (at least not yet). I charge a base fee when traveling outside the US (i.e. it took 32 hours to get to Australia which the customer agreed to pay 16 hours of my day rate during travel time and they covered the plane tickets).

I am based in Florida and travel throughout the east coast (NY to Miami) and just recently was out in OK to shoot some high school football.

Charles,

Your best bet is to charge the standard US Government mileage rates for travel via ground or air transportation. Some outfits give a discount of the first 50-100 miles to regular customers as an incentive. Check out the current mileage rates at:

I have been asked to provide a quote to shoot a commercial in Louisiana which is 850 miles away and I will drive there so I can take all my gear. My question is, how much should I charge for travel and the time to do so? I don't want to over charge and not get the gig but I do not want to cut myself short either.

you can use an external monitor with the go-pro... little phono jack on the side... if you are going to use the water proof housing (you have no choice if you're mounting it with the stock mounts) you will need to drill a hole in the plastic housing, to put the jack into the camera.

Contour makes a nice pov cam with more features, but it costs more as well...

Hey Everyone,

I've been hired to shoot a commercial for an iPhone app and the client would like it to be shot from a POV perspective. this sounds easy but its turning out to be quite hard. One thing that we're trying it putting a green matt on the phone and replacing it in post with screen shots from the app. Thus we need a camera without a rolling shutter in order to do the tracking. We've tried out the GoPro Helmet cam but without a preview monitor it becomes difficult to get the framing right. Right now we're rigging a Canon 60D on a helmet but one, its very unstable and two, its very difficult to look like a normal sized human because the camera makes me look so tall.

Has anyone out there shot POV and know of a good method?

I think we all do this kind of work on a constant basis. You are wlcome to cruise my content on my website but in the end, the last thing you ever want to do is to follow others... at least when wanting to be creative. Something new is what you are after right? Budget is always the restriction. Once you know the deadline and budget, you can plan that ceretain video vibe. That varies and it's always maximized.

A friend's son graduated from Columbia College in Chicago with a degree in film directing, moved to LA to break into the 'business' . He works two jobs (delivering groceries and tour guide at Universal Studios. He entered a commercial in the Tribecca Film Festival, fourth place finish. He created, filmed and directed. The release for the festival allows Chevy free reign to use the idea, reshooting, etc. He was recently informed that Chevy wants to use his commercial 'as is'. Here is a link to view his entry:

Hi folks. I often have to produce promotional videos that helps to promote the organization I am working with. We are a non-profit missions organization. We have works all around the world. The work I do is to try to put together videos that help other people to know what we have been doing, to update them or to encourage them to join us.

Does any body else works in this type of production?

I am new in making promotional videos and hardly find material on how to make this videos on the internet. I mean, styles, ideas, what to do and not to do, things like that.

If you guys want to pinch in ideas, or experiences it would be great.
