New Blue makes a bunch of Plugins, including FX. On the FX plugins there are a ton of different pre sets for Color Corrections and Grading. Also has sets for Movie Look, and you can mess around with the settings to get the look you want. Way Better then the Color Correction Bars that I really dispise.

Any Questions, on the New Blue Fx,let me know.. info@fourtenvisuals.com

On our site, is a bunch of Video, i use these FX in. Check the Lasek Labor day, i used a bunch in that.

Matteo G. thanks for the response. Top notch videos. The amount of forethought used before shooting as well as the attention to detail involved in post are very apparent in the final product. I hope others on the forum view your work and share their input with you. Keep shooting.

Thanks for your reply and your compact and dense analysis, it sounds sincere.

I use to work on Windows's platform, through adobe's applications.

No plugins used, except for particular cases. Usually, post
production in my works is about "set extensions" (made firstly in
photoshop or 3d applications such 3d studio max) and "selective color
correction", making rotoscoping for every shape needed (ex. skin, hairs,
lights, shadows, clothes...) in every single frame, and doing a custom
color correction depending on psychology needed in the shoot or details.
Before every project starts, i try to setting up a custom color
correction directly on the camera, to give a different personality to
the image, then i retouch it on After Effect.

That's what i do usually.

Thanks for your questions and encouragement.

Matteo G., last but not least, nice short clip certainly kept my attention, beautiful women helps there. I want one of those Italian shirts (Max Martini)! Nice dramatic editing. 'Cold Hype' crisp editing style stirs interest in what was to come after, but unfortunately didn't. The demo clips of the post-production techniques were very instuctive, could be made into tutorial for editors. I know you mentioned camera/lenses, but what were your tools in post, editing software, plugins, etc. Keep shooting.

Hi everybody,

i'm new here as in videomaker's world too.

My name is Matteo and i come from a weird country from Eeurope...too weird to put the name here...anyway, i've just signed a new account here cause i need to get different confrontation with different and various point of views.

First of all, i'd like to show you the last one, a viral made for an italian shirt's brand.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx63BQc-RVY

Shots were made with a Canon XHA1s + SgBlade + Nikon 50mm 1:1,8f. This is the configuration i use to apply on all of my productions.

This is the promo of my last videoclip, made for an indipendent singer named DORIAN.

You can see the full lenght video on http://www.grossim.altervista.org (wich is my website).

Here's the clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q7Uo8yn0Uw

As the previous one, CanonXha1s + SgBlade and Nikon lenses were used (50 and 28 mm).

You can find 2 making of the clip about "set extensions" and "color correction" here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyNzlgYeTbI

and here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oPXm8-3f08

Dorian's one was my second music video, and here's my first one, made for STEREOLINE, another indipendent pop band:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/IuWlqcl4hwc

Same camera set-up.

Cold Hype is my first project, my first application on the set, my first madness:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/watch?v=7r8emz_W-UU

it was ment to be a PitchTrailer of an original script, wiche never seen the light...it was made in 2008.

Configuration is about Canon XHA1 and nothing else...just used basic lenses, and made a hard color correction.

Last but not least, an easy promo made for a fotographer friend of mine, Luciano Consolini:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUz1RZZUtfU

Same configuration of ever used, but no prelight made, no pre production, no color correction...shooten as i felt it :D

So, that's all for now, i've nothing to show you more, but i'm workin hard to get more customers and more videos.

Hope to get some suggestions and feedback from you.

Cheers.

Matteo G.

Luis,

Yeah, you'd have to color correct for each scene as there are always subtle changes in lighting even if for some reason all your camera settings are the same. However, with so simple a method it wouldn't be that much extra work. Besides, once you've color corrected your shots prior to dropping them into the timeline in Premiere or whatever, that part is done until you get a final cut and then start in with color grading if required. Just do all the shots for your scenes in batches. Since with the frame reference from each scene the thing that would take the longest would be making your adjustments in Phoshop.

Thanks for sharing such a great tutorial Wolfgang. That method of importing a frame to Photoshop is brilliant, I didn't knew that. One question I have, do I need to separately CC each different scene or will one pre-made CC preset will work on any scene no matter how it change? For example, in scene 1 I have an exterior then I cut to scene 2 which is an interior, will the CC preset I made, using the exterior footage as a reference, will also CC accurately the interior scene?

Between Apple Color and Magic Bullet Looks, lot's of editors are confusing Color Grading with Color Correction. The difference is; CG is a visual enhancement and CC is an adjustment for accuracy. So the 'Neo Green' from the "Matrix" and the 'Sepia Wash' prevalent in "Saving Private Ryan" are color grading choices for artistic enhancement of those films.

When doing color correction the editor adjusts highlights, midtones and shadow areas thus recreating the scene as the eye saw it. Here's a vid by Michael DeVowe using a simpler method for color correcting your video in AFX CS using Photoshop.

Yea I just watched the tech video on turning day into night and had some ideas. Right now most of my tech videos have a lot of grey tones so I made a bar with 20 sections starting with black on the right and decreasing the RGB evenly by 6 on each bar. On the left this gave me some grey tones that were lighter in color that what was in the video. Above the grey bar I made 3 sections, one white, one grey, and one black. I then printed it onto a piece of card stock. This had mixed results, probably since the print has some granulation to it.

The color swatches are a neat idea, I'll have to go see what I can find in those.

Mazda,

If you haven't already, take a look at some actual color cards to see how they're set up. One way you may be able to 'make your own' is to get some Pantone color swatches and try to match them up with the colors in the color card. Trying to mix your own colors according to the specifically calibrated industry standard color cards might get expensive and may be tough to duplicate.

Another way to change your color calibration is using 'Warm Cards' to calibrate your white balance with. Warm Cards will add various amounts of 'video red' to your scene thus warming up your videos. However, if your camera doesn't have manual white balancing capability or if you're using auto white balancing, none of this stuff is going to work for you. Lastly, auto primer is as close to an 18% gray as you can get without having to make it yourself.

lol, well I figured I would use the posterboard backing for the white, the black I'm not too concerned about, if I find something darker to use than what my printer can print I'll use that instead. My biggest worry is the grey tones, my tech videos end up being mostly grey tones and about the only way I know to get an exact shade of grey is to print it with my computer.

Would mixing white and black paint exactly 50/50 be a better way? I have a burret and could measure the volumes within .2 cc or I could mix them by weight.

I was going to make a basic color card for some simple color correction in video. I was thinking about just cutting a piece of poster board about 4"x11" then taking some card stock and making a white/grey/black area with my printer and glue it on. Are there any better recommendations? I'm guessing I want to stay away from anything glossy to avoid glare. This is for very low budget tech videos, some of it will be inside with lighting some of it will be outside.

I don't know if the Movie Studio has this FX but take a look at the color curves effect (in your video effects). Play around with the line, keeping it as a gentle "S" shape and see how that works.
