Rio de Janerio, MOFILM's first South American video contest and we can't wait.

Not because Rio, known as the marvelous city, is the home of Carnival and world famous beaches, such as Copacabana, Ipanema, nor because it's the home of the Samba No, the MOFILM team is hugely excited about the Rio de Janerio Video Contest because it's another chance to take our brands and winning filmmakers to yet another international Film Festival set in a stunning location.

We have briefs from Pepsi Films, Dell and Chevrolet - visit the video contest page to find out more.

I don't think it can be argued that the most creative seat in the entire video production process is the editor's.

I've always loved Hurt... and Johnny for that matter.

In '98 Johnny came down with double pnumonia. Things looked bad as the weekend approached and I had just wrapped up a session at CMT early one late night. We always did Life and Times specials and shows of artists that had just passed and the producer I was working with suggested we rough out a Johnny Cash piece before we leave, should something happen over the weekend. While I understood this from a news standpoint, man it seemed like bad karma to make an obit for a dude who was still kickin'. I explained my feelings and the producer agreed. The man in black went home less than a week later.

I too cried the first time I heard him sing Hurt.

and the last.

Last year I wrote an article for VM Magazine about 'Making Music Videos'. One of the things stressed in the article was to keep your mind open to the possibilities of what can be done during production and in post-production which can enhance your work. Here's a classic example of how even after shooting a beautiful rendition of Johnny Cash's final music video "Hurt", the editor was able to push that performance into an emotionally stunning piece of art.

Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' behind the scenes

COL,

Which is why in my professional opinion I say they'd be better off just going to a pro firm to conceive and make their 'viral' video that's on point with their product instead of trying to get something for free (excuse me $1k) that will be assuredly more 'miss than hit'.

Hmmm. I read it another way. My understanding was to produce a video showing your vision of the healing powers of light, not specific to their product. Kinda like how light therapy helps those that have a hard time with winter's darkness.

I do agree that $1000 for something that might become a part of their ad campain seems small compared to what they would gain, and no garantees that they would not just use the idea instead of the actual video for their ads. Sounds like they may be short on vision and looking for someone to show them the light.

So contest participants are supposed to go out and find a doctor using your product, convince said doctor to let them shoot the product in action, then produce a video at their own expense of a quality to both represent your product and be engaging enough to go viral all on the hope that you'll pay them $1k for it? Just spend the cash and get a firm that specializes in that kind of thing. You'll come out the better for it.

I tried to look at your contest rules but 'have to download the latest version of Adobe Reader' to see them. Sorry, I already have the latest reader and am not downloading anything from some strange site. Why aren't your contest rules set up on a straight up web page like the rest of your site? You might be on the up and up, but that looks awfully suspicious. Anyway, is there an entry fee? Not to mention you're basically saying 'if we pick your video, we'll pay you a thousand bucks'. I guarantee you it cost more in man-hours and equipment costs to make the video than you plan on paying for it. Long as members who see this are informed of the lack of potential gain for this endeavor, I don't have a problem with it.

Uh huh,

I thought there was a catch. You have to buy a frickin' MiniWinder (which is just a wannabe iEarphone winder for $15) to 'feature in the video' and no matter what happens, 'skylabs' wins. You pay them $15 bucks for a piece of plastic that cost them maybe $1 after over all fees and you get 'the chance' to win $1k. Scam. Hey skylab folks, just pay for an ad.

SHORT VIDEO + MOST VIEWS = iPad + US$1,000
Cash!

The miniWINDER-miniVIDEO international
video contest with iPad and cash giveaway brought to you by skylabs. Grab your video camera and let
your imagination go wild to produce the most popular short video and nab the
top prize!

skylabs, an invention company and producer of the
miniWINDER, opens up the miniVIDEO contest whereby competitors produce and post
online videos featuring miniWINDER (“ the world’s smallest and coolest automatic
earphone carrier”)- with the video receiving the most online views crowned
winner.

The rules are simple: post a video, 60 seconds or less,
featuring the miniWINDER being used in any way. miniWINDER could appear in a
short futuristic film, a dynamic art video, be the focus of a promotional
video, featured in a comedy sketch or even an apocalyptic adventure; the
possibilities are endless.

“skylabs is looking
forward to viewing the creative talent of upcoming filmmakers and enthusiasts” said
a skylabs representative. “The
competition is open to video-makers, film makers or just fans of our products and
allows them to express their talent in a competitive forum as well as an
opportunity to win some handy prizes . We believe the miniVIDEO challenge is
mirrored in skylabs’ products and in the company’s ambitions.”

Competition is expected to be fierce as it is being promoted
internationally and is effectively open to any person with internet access and
a video camera or cell phone camera. To
submit a video, competitors simply post the video on a video-hosting site with
‘miniWINDER’ present in the title and forward the direct link to info@skylabsproducts.com. A skylabs
team member will publish the link on the skylabs site for public viewing.

Registrants will be
entitled to receive discounted miniWINDER purchase for use in their video. Full
