Hi,

Few years ago I worked on a multilanguage project and use at this time Ulead Workshop this was a program than we can select as example En, Fr, Ge etc... for the language and do same for title En, Fr, Ge etc... I don't know if Corel offer this program?

For subtitle I recommand Ingscribe you can use the demo ( cannot save but copy paste) or buy the version for $99 easy to use http://www.inqscribe.com/

Regards

You can also use MovieCaptioner to create either Encore subtitle files or it can create .SCC (line 21) caption files that you can add to your movie in Compressor. It would be a lot cheaper than buying all the equipment.

Just for information, I found a nice freeware programme called Subtitle Workshop, from Uruguayans programmers.

http://www.urusoft.net/products.php?cat=sw

Probably not for a big budget movie but works perfectly for YouTube. Haven't tested on DVD yet.

If you want the viewer to be able to turn the subtitles on and off you probably won't be able to do it with pure video alone. The reason subtitling works with dvd is that in addition to video and audio information of the dvd you have additional data (like subtitles) and an authoring environment that makes it interactive.

I beleive you would probably need to have the video file embedded into an authoring environment like Flash or Silverlight to be able to have user controllable subtitles with a video file.

It can be done, but it's a lot of work. The links above mostly use free software, but there may be easier ways to do this if you fork out cash for something.

I can do subtitles in Vegas. I guess I was looking for closed captions, but I hear the software and equipment is expensive...so for now I will stick with subtitles.

You can do subtitles in Encore, not Premiere. That is similar to closed captioning.

I believe closed captioning is done with a whole other piece of equipment and software. Would subtitles suit your purpose do you think?

We have an Encore Guru at the Muvipix forum, stop by and say hi.

Hi. I am trying to find an answer to this question but never imagine it was so difficult to find it.

I make independent documentaries and videos edited with Adobe Premiere CS3. I want to add subtitles in different languages. Not permanent: I want to do it in a way similar to commercial DVDs, where the viwer can turn them on/off, change the languages, etc.

Also, not only for DVD, it is important for me that they subtitles work in YouTube.

Thank you!

I had to do the same thing to put a video I shot on Fuse. I outsourced too and used a company who CC'd my video and they did everything. All I did was email them the video and they sent me a track back that had the cc info all on it. I'd recommend them.

If you've already looked into the indexes in your manuals and none of them mention closed captioning, and I assume you have. Then you may need to look into hiring a professional service. So far as closed captioning being something simple to do, I beg to differ. Closed captions are encoded into the vertical blanking bar of analogue video. And even though you are doing digital editing, the signal that goes to a viewer is an analogue signal. Since my roots are in linear video production, I know how tube cameras generate the vertical blanking interval. And for the closed captioning we put on county government meetings, it was done with an analogue device downstream of the switcher, just before entering the modulator for delivery to the headend.

So closed captioning on an NLE has to be placed by a program that has access & control over the vertical blanking interval, which I don't think digital video even has. Until it is converted to a composite signal, there would be no need to create a vertical blanking interval inside the digital file. But since I've seen players with CC options, so there must be a way for it to be stored in the digital file. But I'm sure you'd need specialized software to make unique vertical blanking intervals.

And there's the expense. It is very specialized software, with a very small market. Just to break even it would have to be quite expensive. So you are most likely to make it a reasonable expense by shopping around for someone to do it for you. I'd check with your local professional video equipment suppliers to find who can do closed captioning in your area.

Good luck. And thank the government for requiring closed captions on music programming.

Hello all, I need to prepare a Music Video for broadcast and Music Choice needs Closed Captions added to it.

I've searched for answers online and have come up with no real answers. Just encounters with shockingly over-priced software for what seems would be a relatively painless procedure.

I run Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe After Effects.
