AC power is goint to broadcast to a certain extent from all audio cables until it makes contact to ground or negative. Unbalanced cables (particularly longer ones) are more suspectible to interference. L/R wires that are interwoven so closely that they are more suspectible to do this.

Your GL2 has separate L/R manual audio controls. Your adaptor allows for separate input to both/either/or channels. Based on that engineering you are able to record two separate and distinct audio sources — one onto the right channel, the other onto the left channel.

In reality, for reasons beyond my engineering comprehension or ability to explain, there will occasionally be some bleeding of the L audio input across to the R, and R across to the L. On the occasions when I've done this I've nearly always experienced this situation.

Perhaps someone of a more sophisticated level of engineering knowledge can explain why this happens, or even if it is possible to totally and completely isolate the L/R inputs in some way.

So, based on my experience: yes, you can record separate channels. I've not been able to totally isolate L/R inputs using different mics and different audio sources and have a distinctly crisp, clean, clear separate audio track for each source.

I'm new to the world of filming. I found this site and was hoping I can get some advice from users. I have a canon gl2 with the MA-300 XLR adapater. Can I run a shotgun mic on the left channel and a audio technica wireless mic on the right channel. Will I get sound on tape picked up from the shotgun mic and sound from the wireless mic?

Thanks for your feedback on this question to a newbie on the adventure of learning a new hobby of filming.

It seems like other people are saying that it's just not very durable. Did all come out right when you first bought this adapter and then went crummy?

It looks to me like this device contacts both pieces of metal to make two audio channels into one. A reviewer said that he could hear both channels mixed into one through an earbud of his MP3 player.

If the ring on the male part of that adapter is connected to the tip in the female, then that should work, otherwise it won't do anything. I can't see anywhere on that page where it says either way--you might want to ask somebody that works at radioshack or just buy it and see.

If you are going to be editing the video later, you should be able to just split the audio and set the left track as mono in your video or sound editing program.

Ok, I just found this little adapter online at radio shack. Since my mic is a mono I believe from what you are telling me that this will work to make it stereo and go to both right and left channels

If there's nothing you need coming on the left channel I don't see the problem here unless it's live.

The only reason I could explain noise coming out on the left is a faulty adapter connectivity, in between mic transformer, or just plain interference from outside signals.

I believe the mic is a mono. Therefore do I need to buy the XLR adapter to plug into? Thanks for the Info!

1/4 inch and 1/8 inch mono phone plugs ("TS") carry the signal on the tip and ground on the sleeve. Stereo phone plugs ("TRS") have a third connector in between called the ring. TRS uses the tip for left, and the ring for right.

So when you plug a mono jack into a stereo input, the mono signal comes through as left stereo. If your microphone is mono, then that's why. If your microphone is stereo, then check that your adapter's output plug is stereo (three connectors on the plug).

More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS_connector

I bought the WMS Pro Wireless mic and the adapter plugs directly into the camera without an XLR adapter. Problem is I only get noise out of the Left Channel. My question is... Is there any way to get it out of both channels without buying an XLR adapter? Do I need the XLR Adapter to get it to work on both Left and right Channels. Thank you for any help.

I have a Canon GL2 that I've had for about a year along with tons of extra accessories that I MUST SELL. I'm getting married soon so the extra money will come in handy. The camera is in excellent condition with minor scratches on the bottom from the tripod attachment. Everything that comes with the kit includes:

Canon GL2 camcorder, Pelican 1620 carrying case, Sony WCS-999 wirless microphone system, Merkury Optics Wide Angle Lens and Telephoto lens, Merkury Optics lens filters (UV, PL, F-DL), 3 extended life batteries, battery charger, Canon camera mount light w/battery, wireless remote control, all cables, and instruction manual.

I live in the Houston area so a local sale would be ideal, but I could ship it if necessary within the US. I'm asking $1200 for everything.

Thanks for looking!
