I shot with a DSLR and I have been looking into getting an xlr adapter box such as the one made by Beachtek so I can use xlr mics. After thinking, I was wonder what the difference would be if I just bought an xlr to 1/8 (1/8 goes into my dslr) cable as long as my mic is powered? Thats $10 vs $300...am I missing something here?

Hi,

Just got my new HF S21 in the mail Monday- of course they just announced a new recorder that looks even better, but who cares. This thing shoots sharp as a tack.

The mini hot shoe is an issue for me- how do i mount my lights, externtal mics, etc? Do I have to buy all Canon supplied to fit that shoe? How about adding external XLR mics- do i need a Beachtek or something like it?

Has anyone used one of those handles from Opteka? How about a wide angle attachment?

I also want an underwater video case, underwater lights, and either HMI or flourescent studio lights for interviews.

Tell me what you've bought, and what works. Especially with frame rates.

Thanks.

Hello all and welcome! Up for sale is a BeachTek DXA-8 Camcorder XLR Adapter! This was bought brand new by me from TriState Camera for $359.99 a little over a month ago. It has never been used, just taken out of its packaging to check its functionality...and I must say that this thing sounds great! I bought this camcorder xlr adapter thinking that I would get a lot of use out of it for freelance gigs, but honestly it has just been sitting around due to my having just moved recently and getting caught up in other things as well. I'd much rather sell this to someone who could make more use of it than I have.

FEATURES:

   http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3587...fac3c71.jpg?v=0

The DXA-8 Dual XLR adapter offers two true microphone preamps with 48 Volt phantom power and switchable peak limiting level control on both inputs, for use with professional condenser microphones.

The DXA-8 is universally compatible with most camcorders, and is particularly useful in conjunction with the Canon GL2 and the Sony VX 2100, as it provides manual audio level control superior to that offered by those cameras. It also functions quite well as a portable, affordable microphone preamp solution, for use in professional location recording to DAT, Minidisc, Compact Flash and SmartMedia, and other portable digital recorders.

Two sources may be recorded simultaneously, and each input may be recorded on a separate audio track, making it possible to mix both channels individually during editing. The DXA-8 provides channel separation adequate for recording timecode and audio simultaneously and the shielded, transformer balanced inputs and outputs, and the XLR connectors, are of a professional quality.

                            http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3472...0a23b36.jpg?v=0

   * XLR Inputs are true Microphone Preamps for use with Video Cameras or Portable Audio Recorders

* Input channels allow recording of two sources on separate tracks for post audio mixing; both channels have a dedicated Mic/Line level switch and trim potentiometers for separate level control

* 48 Volt phantom power and peak limiting level control on both channels for use with professional Condenser Mics

   * Transformer Isolated Inputs and Outputs for clean, RF-Free Sound

* Auxiliary Mini-Jack on right channel for wireless Mics

* Dual MIC/LINE level switches for connection of Mics or CD and Cassette players and other line level sources

* Mono/Stereo Switch for single input recording

Hi all,

I just purchased a Canon FS100 camcorder and a Beachtek DXA-2s XLR adapter to go with it. I have a cheap Peavey PVi100 mic I'm using right now, and I'm not really happy with the results. Does anyone have experience with this Beachtek adapter and a good wired mic to go with it? Thanks in advance!

Well, as the title says, my Beachtek DXA-4 adapter isn't working the way it should.  The right XLR plug isn't working.  I opened it up just enough to see what looks like one of the wires connected to it came un-soldered.  My problem is, there is a ton of glue holding the top plate onto an inside plate which makes it impossible to just pull off.

Has anyone opened up their Beachtek adapter and if so, how did you pry off the glue?  Even though I only use 1 mic (Rode NTG-2) can anyone give me a good reason to consider the Beachtek completely broken so I have an excuse to get a JuicedLink :-P?  I wish I knew about JuicedLink before I bought this... as it looks like their boxes are much better...

Hello,

New to this forum and I hope someone here can give me some information and some help on what I am tring to do.

I have been asked to video a beauty pageant at our local auditorium and create a DVD of it. I have no issues with the video itself.  I have done video in this place many times.  My problem has always been audio.  The last time I did a video I used a beachtek device tied to my camera.  The beahtek device was plugged into the back of the soundboard(mackie) into the left and right main out jacks (could be the left and right aux sends, can't remember because I haven't done this in a while).  I was told to try the tape out, but if I remember correctly, the last time I tried that the audio wasn't real clear, but that could have been my fault, because I went straight into the camera mic jack from the tape out.  The sound I get is great when they are speaking, but if someone sings, it doesn't sound to great, it almost sounds flat, no mix of music and voice.  I thought about taking a second camera and using it to record the sound and pulling the singing parts from that camera.Â

Is there a better way of getting a good mix of speaking and singing? Will a digital recorder work better and if so, what kind?

I have a Sony HDR-FX1 camera.  I also have a beachtek DXA-4.  The mackie box is pretty old, it has been in the auditorium now since probably 2000.  It is a 24 line.  I am not sure what the model number is, but if needed I will see if I can get it.

Thanks for any suggestions.
