BandH has plenty of wireless lavs to choose from. It's where I got mine. Your local camera stores will have em as well.

I've never had a use for handhelds. Some reporters still like them becuase they don't know what to do with their hands but I find them to be limiting and distracting. They also create deer in the headlights vibe for those not use to being on camera.

For the lens: find the filter diameter of the camcorder (usually a number with a slashed "O" next to it) or take the camcorder with you to your favorite local camera shop for assistance. The fisheye lens that you need will be marketed as a "conversion lens". You will end up with a lens that screws directly into the camcorder's filter threads.

As for the battery, the same local camera shop should be able to get you hooked up; otherwise, there are a number of battery stores in most towns that can also help you track down what you need. There are a few third parties that make batteries, but some camcorder manufacturers will assert that their batteries are better (because they want to be the ones that earn your battery business.) Your mileage may vary.

 Thanks, I appreciate the tips.

So if I just use common sense with it I should be ok. I read on a website that it's actually bad to frequently let the battery go completely dead, so I won't let that happen. It sounds like a good idea to take it off when I'm not using it too.

 Good question.

Yea, before the first time you use it, you should charge it completely. If it's a lithium ion battery, you do not have to wait for it to die completely to charge it again.

If you are not using a battery, store it in an environment that is not too hot or too cold. Just use common sense here, it's not rocket science.

If you do not shoot often, do not keep the battery on the camcorder when it's stored. And by "not often," I mean at least 6-months in between shoots, although I never put my camera in my bag with a battery attached. Too many times have I put my camera away and forgot to turn it off. Fortunately I have a bunch of batteries though...can never have too many batteries.

Is there something I should do with a battery I just bought (haven't used it yet) to maximize it's ability?

I heard that you should charge it all the way up, then use it until it's completely dead. Is there something else I should know?

I would use Mini Mag flashlights. Seriously!

I'm a former Boy Scout and I think mini Mags are great!! They are small, light, battery powered, and the top can do amazing stuff: you can screw/unscrew while pointing it at a background for strange background effects(background light), or it unscrews all the way off for a candle like effect(fill light) and obviously makes a great point light. I think you can even get special holders where you can hook it to stuff.

Good luck! sounds like fun.

 Hi!

Im going to Bali to make a doco for an aid organisation in Australia. I have my own equipment but for lighting. As there wont be many power points around, i was thinking of battery powered lighting gear, but i dont know where to start looking - does anyone have any ideas of the best way to go about this?

Â

Cheers!
