I just uploaded a Typographical video I created using After Effects.

The element and graphics were edited in Photoshop and Illustrator.

I'm going to soon create a tutorial explaining how I made this video!

I run mainly Adobe
Premiere 5.5, After Effects and Audition on the computer F131 with
followings specs in a nutshell:

- Asus X58
- i7 980 6 Core with HT with Turbo Boost
- 24 GB of RAM
- GTX580
- 3x VelociRaptor 10kRPM 600GB (2 of which running on the 6Gbps SATA port)
- 1 Samsung HD 7.2kRPM 1TB
- Windows 7 Professional

Setup: ->Hard Disks

Startup and Program Drive C: VelociRaptor 600GB 10kRPM 3Gbps SATA
Captured Video Drive E: Samsung 1TB 7.2kRPM 3Gbps SATA
Captured Audio Drive E: Samsung 1TB 7.2kRPM 3Gbps SATA
Video Previews Drive F: VelociRaptor 600GB 10kRPM 6Gbps SATA
Audio Previews Drive L: VelociRaptor 600GB 10kRPM 6Gbps SATA

-> RAM

RAM for other Applications 3GB
RAM for AE PR EN ME 21GB

I use the system now for 2 weeks and am totally impressed about speed,
reliability, rendering speeds and quality of this system. My video
production is about 5 times faster as on my old quad i5, 8GB RAM. To
work in After Effects is a dream. All effects can be watched in real-time. Premiere Pro uses the Mercury Engine via the GTX580 that enhances the speed significantly.

My system is 100% stable. When scrubbing fast on the timeline on my old
computer, premiere pro crashed once in a while. Not anymore. Whatever I
do now - is rock solid!!!

I was especially surprised about the GTX580. I use 2 Monitors (Dell 3011
with 2560x1600) and (Dell 2408 with 1920x1200) on the same GTX580. I
didn't believe it that I can run both Monitors with 32 bit color and
60Hz refresh-rate. This is a real dream for video editing to have that
much real-estate, especially when working in HD.

Premiere Pro 5.5 is just an incredible software. I just recently did a project with 4 different HD formats and 25fps and 30fps frame rate. No problem. The timeline takes it all and on the final output there is hardly any difference.

With my old computer I had all this red rendering frames on top of the timeline. They are now yellow instead. Most filters and transitions do not require rendering and can be watched in real time.

Over all, I'm very happy with the system. Thanks to Maingear, the computer manufacturer and Adobe with the new edition of PP CS5.5

System value: about 4K$ (Computer only).

Hey guys,

I'm using a script called FCPtoAE in order to send a final cut video to after effects for color correction etc.

I tried rendering the comp I made in ae and when I play back the exported footage it glitches/freezes during playback. The timeline continues to play but the video freezes.Â

My render settings are as follows:

Render Settings: Current Settings

Output: Lossless

I've even tried exporting the video directly from FCP and adding it to AE then setting it to render and I have the same issue either way...

Does anyone know what the fix is for this?

I am having problems with the aspect ratio when I bring in the XML file I export out of FCP into After Effects CS5.

I am shooting in HDV 1080i 30p and when I bring it into AE the aspect ratio changes from 16:9 to 4:3. It has opened a couple times as 16:9 but when I try and use the stamp tool or roto brush tool it switches to 4:3.

Does anyone know what this could be?

I read about exporting to XML but it seems you need another piece of software still after that, is their a better way that I can send it to After Effects then bring it back to FCP?

Ran across this vid from Robino Films showing how to use a long exposure photo as a matte to compensate for a dark scene when shooting with a DSLR Camera. By combining AFX and Photoshop you can make an undetectable foreground or background matte to add detail or scene details without a lot of difficulty. Check it out!

Between Apple Color and Magic Bullet Looks, lot's of editors are confusing Color Grading with Color Correction. The difference is; CG is a visual enhancement and CC is an adjustment for accuracy. So the 'Neo Green' from the "Matrix" and the 'Sepia Wash' prevalent in "Saving Private Ryan" are color grading choices for artistic enhancement of those films.

When doing color correction the editor adjusts highlights, midtones and shadow areas thus recreating the scene as the eye saw it. Here's a vid by Michael DeVowe using a simpler method for color correcting your video in AFX CS using Photoshop.

Pro Juice has gone live on Koldcast TV with website.

Pro Juice Series 1 is 5x26 minute presenter driven episodes about video, music and new media for ‘guerrilla producers’ and those who dabble. It’s fast paced, shoot from the hip, music video style programming. Professionally produced, but alternatively ‘pro-juiced’, original stories cut hard to provide informative and entertaining viewing.

There are 2 episodes already live on Koldcast a new episode will stream each Saturday.

In the first episode of the series, Arlo shows us how to prep your drums to keep yourself super-efficient when in the studio, Nick will cut Arlo’s head off in a tip for creating headless humans, we’ll chat to designer Jonathan Chong about the process of creating his cracking steam-punk animated clip for music producer, Spoonbill, look out for a quick tip on keeping your guitar firmly strapped on and we create mayhem in the kitchen with some break beats.

http://www.koldcast.tv/#/video:pro_juice_ep_1

In the second episode of the series, Nick turns Arlo into Will Smith from Bad Boys in his tip on creating a heat haze effect, Arlo shows us a quick tip on pitching up your snare sound, ala Chemical Brothers. We infuriate rock musicians by showing you how to fake a killer guitar sound with a synth and Jo and Juan drop in to chat about their beautiful flash and after effects animated Columbian music video, Cuando Ries.

http://www.koldcast.tv/#/video:pro_juice_ep_2

We’re sure you’re going to dig the series and remember a new episode is uploaded each Saturday so stay tuned for more wicked content.

Peace out,

Hey guys. So, the other day i was making a quick video for my sister (REALLY QUICK! I made it in 40 minutes or so...) on After Effects, and i was working in 3D. Well, the values for my X,Y, and Z axis were huge, about 7 thousand and something... So my question is if those values normal or am i controlling the camera in a wrong way? The way i do it is just to create a Null Object, add the "Separate XYZ" effect to it (So i can control each one individually), and i parent the camera to it. but after some time, working with those inmense numbers get really confusing and frustrating!

So, any tips on how i should control the camera to get smaller values?

Btw, if yall need to see how "far" the camera was moving, here is the video. The language is in portuguese, so i am sorry if yall dont understand it... =D

So I just got hold of my brand new MAC and wanted to take it for a spin to see what I could do with it. Loaded on my new AVID software as well as the new FCP and downloaded a trial version of AE CS4… but what to make.

Well I saw The Wolfman at the cinemas on Valentines Day and although I wasn’t overly impressed I did see a couple of movie trailers that inspired me to do some motion graphics. So I’ve kind of combined two text treatments from 2 trailers and come up with this one. Check it out here along with a tut explaining a bit about the process!!

I am an animator and I just recently launched virtual-studio-set.com it is a collection of backdrops that video producers can use to place behind green screen footage. All of the footage is royalty free and I am planning on adding many more backgrounds in the near future. We also do custom design and animation work, so please get in touch if there is a project you need help on. Thanks for looking,

Ten easy steps to becoming a motion graphics artist! Okay, so it may not be as easy as that, but Nick Campbell’s presentation on “How to become a Motion Graphic Artist And Get Paid” jump starts the day of learning in Boston on Friday 2 April.

The Motion Graphics Festival begins with a full-day conference on motion design, sound design and interactivity, featuring presenters from AVID, Fox, MIT, School of the Art Institute of Chicago and more. The conference is followed by two days of workshops on Animating with ActionScript 3, Animation in a Browser with jQuery, and After Effects Fundamentals.

MGFest’s education events bring artists and academics together from a wide range of disciplines. Participants get involved with and meet people that can lead to collaborations and work opportunities. It is a time for those who are looking for talent to find it and those who seek new work opportunities to place themselves at the epicenter of the job market.

So i just finished watching the 3rd series of the HBO production,
Deadwood and i thought i would have a crack at recreating the opening
title sequence in After Effects. It is not an overly complicated text
effect, however it looks very cool. This is always a cool way to keep
your skills up in motion graphics and just fun really!

The project is available to download here:

I've used Premiere for years and have now graduated up to Adobe Production CS4 Suite. I'm not a novice but maybe not up to being called "intermediate."

Here's my problem: I'm having a hard time understanding the flow and interaction between Premiere and After Effects. I've googled it and found everything from, "I edit in Premiere and just do titles in AE" to "I edit completely in AE."

I've edited a short video together and then right clicked the clips and selected "Replace with AE Composition" to add some green screen keying and that sort of works, but then it seems to lose information or not save properly... and I'm now officially confused.

In general, I'm wondering what process do you out there that use both apps use? Do you edit completely in Premiere, use the Replace with AE Composition? Or do you set up the clips first in AE, then dynamically link them into Premiere assets to be added to a sequence?

Thanks! - Laurie

In preparation for a web series that Pro Juice have in pre-production, i've been playing around with some effects that are to appear in a number of the episodes.

Plasma Screen Effect

The first effect is replicating the look of a large screen plasma TV. One of the characters appears on a screen mounted on a wall and then interacts with the characters in the room. It looks like we will achieve the effect in post, so in this tutorial i take you through some of the steps involved in creating this dot-matrix type pattern which is in effect a working style guide for some effects that will appear in the web series - The Science of Night.

I have a home built computer for digital audio recording that I want to utilize as an NLE. I'll be swapping each tweaked installation of XP Pro 32bit using removable drives instead of multi-booting. The specs are as follows:

MoBo - MSI K9A2 PLATINUM 790FX AM2+

CPU - AMD|PHENOM 9750 2.4G AM2 65N

Memory - M2Gx2|GSK F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

OS Drives - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200KSRTL 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s (3 drives, each installed in a Kingwin KF-91-BK removable rack with independent XP Pro installs tweaked specifically for audio, video editing, or photo editing)

Storage Drives - Seagate HD 500G|ST 7K 16M SATA2 ST3500630AS (three drives: one for audio recordings, one for photos, another for audio samples, and finally, a 750G Seagate drive for video which will prabably end up in a removable rack. Any drive not utilized during a given task is used for "scratch drive"/temp files and/or virtual memory)

Graphics card - VGA ATI 100-505182 FireGL V3350

Monitors - ACER|LCD 19" 5MS DVI X193W+BD (a pair for dual monitoring the timeline)

DVDwr - ASUS|DRW-2014L1T LS SAT

DVD rom - SONY NEC|DDU1615/B2s BK

ROSEWILL RC-500 CRADBUS

I feel like the only upgrade needed would be a second FireGL V3350 and a third LCD monitor (Narrowed down to the Acer X233Hbid Black 23" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 40000:1 or the LG W2053TQ-PF Black 20" 2ms GTG 16:9 Widescreen LCD Monitor w/ HDCP Support 300 cd/m2 50000:1, either sells for the same price at Newegg) for viewing full-screen playback of the timeline.

I'll be using Sony Vegas Pro 8 and Adobe CS3 apps for editing. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I am wanting to do some page flipping (as opening a book) between scenes. Does anyone do this with within Premiere Pro or do I need to go outside and buy a graphic animation? I want to be able to make my own choices (color, texture etc outside and inside of the book) If so........any suggestions? I have After Effects but I am still intimated with the program and haven't really worked with it much. If After Effects offers this, I guess I will have to open my book (After Effects) and do some studying!!

 Hey everyone

I've created a great little tutorial that shows you how to blow out stage lights using the Knoll Light FX plug in FCP. Check it out and tell me what you think. We used the effect in a low budget music video that just didn't have enough lights on stage to get the effect we were after!!

Hello all, I need to prepare a Music Video for broadcast and Music Choice needs Closed Captions added to it.

I've searched for answers online and have come up with no real answers. Just encounters with shockingly over-priced software for what seems would be a relatively painless procedure.

I run Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe After Effects.
