Ekah,

Do yourself a favor, do not send unsolicited work to anyone. Producers get tons of unsolicited scripts every year and most times they won't read any of them. You also run the risk of having your work stolen. There are numerous cases in court past and present where unsolicited and solicited work were read and made without compensation or credit to the originating author.

Think of it this way, when you get spam in your inbox or junkmail in your mailbox, what do you do with it? Also, before you send off a script, have you honed it to a fine edge? Have you had a professional Script Doctor read through your work? Have you registered your work with the WGA? Do you know what that is? Have you submitted your work for copyright in your country's copyright office?

Also, a 2 minute script is fine to show you have some writing ability but if you were fortunate (and I do mean fortunate) to get someone connected to the studio system to actually read your work, do you have a feature length version ready to go if they want to see more?

Your best bet is to enter scriptwriting contests. You'll have a much better chance of someone being interested in your work in that vein than basically chucking your work at people who are not going to read it at all. There are numerous contests out there so do your research as to which one's you feel you'd have a good shot at.

I can tell you with certainty, Marvel, DC and any other big outfit is not going to waste time with your unsolicited and unknown work. They don't need to. They have thousands of proven writers under their umbrella to choose from and they already own the property so they don't have to pay anything extra for them.

It's pretty obvious you have no idea of how all this works and I
would hate to see you waste your time and effort only to quit out of
frustration. If contests aren't your thing, there's no reason you can't
partner up with others interested in filmmaking at your local level and
create your own projects. In fact, I would recommend that. Yes, it is
possible to 'catch lightning in a bottle' the first time up and be an
amateur scriptwriter and get a big movie deal (See Director Antoine
Fuqua's "Brooklyn's Finest" who's scriptwriter was a Subway Booth
Officer who's script caught the director's eye after a contest.) More
than likely, you won't. But you can develop your skill and build
relationships with other filmmakers and eventually gain the attention of
someone connected with the 'system'.

So with all that in mind, the best way to get the 'big boys' to notice your work is to make something on your own worth noticing. Something to think about.

If I wanted to write a 2 minute piece of a screen play (movie) and send it to a big name LIKE Josh Wheton for his next movie what steps would I take for submission?

Would I write a script for the actors and what style/format/look/type of paper to
print it on?

Would I need to storyboard the scene, or do they like it best submitted via a
graphics storyboard program?

What are the methods of submission? For instance if I contacted the company representing the producer, should I contact the writer?

Many times the producer co-writes or there is an initial writer? Who should I submit the 2 minute screen clip to?

How should I submit the document, not copy written, a certain type of certified version? How would the producer feel most comfortable, read the script without fear of any liabilities?

How would I make money submitting something like this for a Marvel movie?

How long did it take you to put all this together? Script? Shooting (video ;-)? Editing? Want to share any trade secrets with the rest of us here?

possibly your shutter is too slow, shooting at less than thirty frames per second...

I'd check out your camera settings to see if that is the case.

if so a wider iris opening (aperture) and faster shutter 1/60 for eg...

or if using automatic settings, you need more light....

also possible you need to turn off the shake reduction when tripod mounted..

I have a Panasonic PV-GS90P that is always used on a tripod to film sign language publications. I always seem to get what we call a ghost image, or a blurry trail that follows the hands of the signer. Is there any solution for this? Or is it just something we have to live with in this camera? I would really appreciate any help or suggestions.

Nice stuff but intro lasts too long. about 16 seconds till any info about what you are showing. For a demo video on Nature the demo one you gave did not show nature. Remember in Video and all productions you have a few seconds to keep someone's attention. Quality looks good. Just work on the speed of telling the story. Will really increase the viewers.

Myself and a number of friends just completed a short film called 'The Rat King', and I was curious if a few of you would not mind casting votes for us at the site it is currently posted at. It is in competition to win funding for a feature-length adaptation, but requires votes in order to make the finals. We worked really hard on the film, and would greatly appreciate any support that anyone can lend us!

If you do not mind, please take a moment to sign up on the web site (no worries— it is free), and give it five stars (votes will not count without all five stars).

Thank you to anyone who takes a moment to do so, and thank you IMMENSELY to anyone who has a friend or two vote!

We really appreciate your support, and we hope you enjoy the film! Many thanks!

I just put up a post about 'Soft Sell' advertisement and then I ran across this 2D/3D mix animation by Marc Altshuler called 'Logorama'. Awesome. Be advised, discretion should be used as it has adult language and some mild sexual suggestive content (brief but funny.) It's advertisement the way Madison Avenue would have it if only they could. Check it out....

In one of my older posts discussing shooting with the new Canon DSLR video cameras the question of how they handled action footage was the one posters myself included wanted to know. Well I ran across this video by photographer turned cinematographer Patrick Murphy-Racey and his shoot of the SEC football championships shot with the 7D. Shot in 720p at 60p with a Canon pro telephoto lense the imagery is just phenomenal. See for yourselves.

The animation is cool. However, as a true how to or instructional video it falls short because as a first time viewer I am so busy trying to read the various scrolling information to comfortably watch or ingest the visuals.

I lose the benefit of seeing what happens because I am so involved with my efforts to read. Some of the representation in your graphics doesn't really give me a full understanding of the materials you use, or the outcome of the DARTS, actually, not bullets.

At the end I get no input or understanding of the final production, or how it might best work.

As I said, the graphics and animation are admirable, but the overall outcome leaves me frustrated. I think instead of the kicky beat music, something lower and more subtle, with voice over instructions would help me better follow your instructions for making my blow dart aparatus out of a rolled up magazine.

Perhaps a live, actual video presentation instead of animation, and actual VO instructions, would make this how to production a real winner.

I thought that the production values were great, and the lines weren't bad either. The only thing was that there wasn't any real story or conflict established. Good job though.

when you do get up to Vegas Pro 8, you'll be very happy indeed. I have been using Vegas pro software for a couple of years and never have regretted it.

Yea I think that I'll try out both trial versions and see if its that much better. If it is then I'll buy it, or I might just upgrade to it later...

Platinum is a bit much but it's worth every penny in my opinion. I bought a couple months ago and have been using it even when I don't have a video to edit. It's easy to learn if you know the basics like keyframes. It doesn't take quality out of your videos like Windows Movie Maker or Pinnacle Studio. I would recommend using the trial version first to make sure you like it though.

As I see it, there are two reasons to choose the Platinum Edition. The number one reason would be you have to edit in HD. But I have no reason to edit HD. I don't have an HDTV and no one I know does either. But more importantly, I'm not going to spend the dough to upgrade to the Blue-ray DVD recorder I need to send HD video into the HDTV I don't have. And I don't have clients that can actually utilize HD video. And I don't see that changing for several years. My clients are not broadcasting my work, is is generally cablecast on the government cable channel or delivered for home playback on ordinary DVD's into ordinary TV's. Using HD at any point would create more problems than it's worth.

Now the reason I'd like to get Vegas Platinum is for the color correction upgrade. I am frequently mixing video from different camera sources. When I work for the city, I'm mixing my VX2100 with their PD150 and a full size DVCAM camcorder. All of them are look great individually, but each camera has tiny differences in their pictures. So I will use the color correction tools to make the cameras match. Vegas Platinum has the color correction tools that Vegas Pro uses, so I'd have both greater control & easier adjustments. Now it's nothing personal, but I don't think you'll be making color corrections for quite some time. You don't really need to do anything Vegas Studio can't handle when you're only using one camera. And to be honest, I don't have to have "better" tools. I can already do what needs to be donw with the software I already have.

Now the reason Vegas Platinum is more expensive is because it includes a bunch of NewBlueFX plug-ins for video effects, transitions and audio fine tuning. While it is very nice to have more options, good video comes from good shooting. Fixing it in post generally means you're hoping to hide poor quality production with some kind of trick. And that almost never works. You can't really fix poor video or audio, although sometimes you can make it a little less bad. You're better off concentrating on getting it right while you're shooting.

So I'd have to advise you to start out with Vegas Home Studio (and register with Sony.) I've found it to be more than adequate for several years. And when I can justify it, I'm planning to upgrade to Platinum through Sony. The upgrade will cost far less than buying it outright (but the total for buying Studio & upgrading it to Platinum is more than Platinum costs.) And splitting the cost over a year or two works better for my budget while my wife is going to school.

Ok so if I'm going to buy vegas which one should I buy? theres the Vegas Pro which is $549.95 a little out of my price range and theres Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition for $114.95 still a little high but if its a great editing software I wouldn't mind paying the extra money, and then there is Vegas Movie Studio for $74.95 a fair price but will It have enough features for editing or not? just let me know.

Well Panasonic has the SDR-S10P which is waterproof and shockproof. But it records onto an SD card which will probably result in low quality.
