I have several software... Pinnacle, Sony Vegas PRo 11, magix music maker. I don't have an ACID, but I do have a soundforge and audacity.

I made a video recording with my ZoomH2 and also the Sony HDR12 camcorder. When making the video. The video is great, and cannot be redone. The sound recorded by the camcorder sounds like the actor is in a bucket.

The sound from the Zoom H2 is excellent, but I cannot get the sound to sync. I've spent couple hours trying. I get very close, but not close enough to make a decent presentation

I was thinking... the actor is speaking clear enough and understandable enough in the Camcorder recorded sound, but the bucket sound is just too obnoxious.

Any suggestions for either

1) way to sync sound from Zoom H2

2) way to remove the bucket sound

I've been out of video production for 15 years and am getting ready to jump back in with an HD camcorder purchase, but one of my absolute "must haves" is the ability to feed the camcorder with the "line out" of an audio mixing board for some studio work. What is not clear to me is if the microphone input jack (such as on a Canon HF20) is compatible with the normal line levels from an audio device, or will it only work with microphones?

A band had hired me to film them performing at a bar. I used my cannon XH-1As for close ups and my HF-M41 for wide. I also had my H2 Zoom Audio recorder connected directly to the Mixer. But I ran into problems on post production lol...

For one the Bass drum was causing my whole Tripod to vibrate thus parts of the video go fuzzy whenever the bass drum hits... Is there a way to prevent this from happening in the future? I had a $100 tripod raised up to 72 inches which I had to raise all the way up to look over the crowd. I never had this happen to me before. Its supper annoying and very head ache causing...

My second problem is the the H2 Zoom audio recording, that I had connected to the mixer's rec out connection using an RCA cable, parts of it sound distorted to me... I even had the damn thing set on "Limited 1 (general) which is suppose to prevent this. Anyways is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future? I don't have a lot of control over the sound engineer whos on the mixer. He's pretty much going to make it as loud as possible for everyone. Especially the main voice.

I am also going to post 2 videos. One with the audio from the Camera and the other with the audio from the H2 Zoom. Can you guys tell me which audio is better? IE which audio I should deliver to my client...

Here's the video with the Audio from the H2 Zoom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp73HPHOk-E

Here's the video using the Camera Mic Audio.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzI6cF-jBSM&feature=youtu.be

Hey guys,

I've noticed that I'm really getting into a slump lately with my videos. I keep tending to get the same demographic group ordering my weddings (Caucasian, fairly well-to-do, mid to late 20's, etc...), and lately I've gotten to the point where I keep recycling the same songs over and over in the wedding videos.

Anyway, aside from just wanting to refresh the ol' video mill so it doesn't get boring, I also had a couple who got me good by having the pastor at the wedding I just filmed sing one of the songs I sometimes use (a Ukulele version of somewhere over the rainbow). He even had a live ukulele accompaniment!

Anyway, What are some of your favorite songs to use in wedding videos? Do you try to give something new to everyone, or do you sometimes play off the fact that not a lot of couples will ever compare videos, and use the same songs over and over.

I used to try and put different stuff into every video. I think now I've either gotten lazy, or I just know the timing in some of these songs so well that I like having them in a video.

Hello,

I intend to produce an amateur documentary and
the only camcorder I have available is a simple JVC GZ-HM30 (http://www.trustedreviews.com/jvc-everio-gz-hm30sek_Camcorder_review).

So, I am looking for alternative ways to
capture audio with quality, once this cam doesn't have input to external microphone.
I intend to record audio in three different situations: (a) indoor interviews;
(b) outdoor interviews; (c) general audio from external environment.

I was wondering if it is possible to capture
audio through an IC recorder and to make synchronization with video through
edit software (Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11). I have an Panasonic RR-US551 (http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/RR-US551)
which has input to external microphone. The questions are:

a) Which could be the type/model of
external microphone to use together this IC recorder (considering the different
situations mentioned before)? It would be a reasonable solution to my capture
audio with quality? Is there other one?

b) Through audio software (as Sound Forge not professional version), is it possible to improve the audio quality (even the audio recorded from the JVC GZ-HM30 camcorder)?

Thanks indeed in advance,

Hello all. This is my first post. I am a legal videographer who is going to shoot a short film soon with my Sony FX1. Regarding location audio(mostly in moving vehicals), is it possible to use one(or more) of my Sony ECM-44B lav mics as a boom mic and run them into my Beachtek XLR adapter, then into my VX-2100 as separate audio? I have a Shure SCM268 4 channel mic mixer, but we'll be a car most of the time. Also regardless of the answer to my question, what are the pros/cons to recording into my Beachtek/VX-2100 vs a typical field recorder? I'll get a boom mic if neccessary, but since I have this equiptment I'd thought I'd ask. Thank you in advance

Current equipment I use:

Sony Camcorder HDR-SR12, same as HDR-SR11 except has more HDD memory.

Microphone - AZDEN- WM-PRO Transmit/WR-PRO Receive Wireless Lapel mike system.

Video Software - Vegas 8 Pro, Vegas Movie Maker Platinum, Pinnacle Premium

Audio Software - I have the Sony Acid Pro, Sonar 8.5 LE, Magix Music Maker 16,and Sony Sound Forge that comes with Sony Movie Maker software.

Yesterday I was in the music store and bought a ZOOM H2 digital recorder. Very exceptional as far as I can tell. I've read a few reviews to get a feel for it.

I've not had much success researching how I can use it with my camcorder.

In the past I just clipped the AZDEN wireless receiver to my camcorder, and put the lapel mic on the talent and clipped the transmitter to their body somewhere. This works pretty good, but to be honest the sound quality hasn't been up to par.Â

I've read where I can just use the Zoom H2 directly in close contact with the talent and the sound quality will be exceptional. I was concerned about sync the recorded audio and video, but I think by using a handclap as I start I can get pretty good sync/registration and edit it in vegas pro.

Going abit too much here probably. I am interested to get as simple setup working as possible, because much of my work doesn't allow much setup, booms, stands, etc. I handhold the camera and when I used the wireless mic system the talent is generally very free to move.Â

I thought well maybe there was an implementation process I could follow and use the Lapel system in tandem some way with the Zoom H2. Yet, I'm reluctant to think that way. I thought welll I could take the little cable I normally plug into my camcorder from the Azden receiver and plug it into the Zoom H2. The Zoom H2 does have a MIC and LINE IN (plug in). THen I thought what would be the benefit of doing that???Â

I did read somewhere I could buy a high quality lapel mic and plug it directly into the Zoom H2. That seems redundant, since the Zoom H2 has 4 very high quality mic built in. Anyway, that is a question I have for sure. I don't recall how much I paid for my AZDEN wireless system, but it is kinda bottom of the line. So... it is doubtful the AZDEN lapel mic I have is up to producing what I need as an input to the Zoom H2.

Anyway, I think I explained pretty well...I'm not quite sure to do.

I really am pretty well sold on the Zoom H2 from all I've read, but it maybe I have to think of it in a different way for use with my camcorder.

I'd certainly appreciate some thoughts or links to related information.

I have been asked (very last minute) to record my works conference. The conference will be for about 150 people and will have a person talking on a stage doing a presentation. They will have a microphone which will broadcast to the room (so everyone can hear). I'm not sure if it will be wireless or not. Will I be able to tap in to this microphones sound so that the video camera can record it clearly? I've been put in the deep end a little bit with this and it's very last minute.

The company video camera being used is a Sony HDRFX1. It has a jack audio input but no XLR. I presume I will (may) need some sort of XLR to 3.5mm jack converter (based on what google has told me). Work has a lapel microphone set which has wireless broadcast, so would I be able to plug the (presumably) XLR pin into the wireless transmitter and then in to my camera?

Please could someone help me and explain the basics of being able to record the microphone which will come out of the speakers in the room? I'll admit to being clueless. I apologise for being such a novice with this issue but this isn't something I've ever had to do and isn't something I am familiar with. I really appreciate any advice and guides so I can clue myself up.

I am beginning my first documentary about the life and times in my old neighborhood, and I would like to interview some of the people that I grew up with.

Of course, I could use the built-in microphone on my camcorder, but I would like to use a lavalier microphone as I believe I would get a better audio result.

However, I know practically nothing about how to use them (even the most basic knowledge of how they work). Is there a resource that I can find out about this, even at the most basic level?

Once I have this information, I would also like to know what kind to get (Price is definitely a factor).

Despite this being 'Videomaker' forums and the emphasis lying so heavily on the visual element of video, unless you're purposely making silent movies Sound is an equally crucial element to your work. Plenty of emphasis on collecting good sound in the field is made in the forums, whether making a narrative or documentary project your Sound Design (or lack of it) will make or break your film. Here's a vid from the folks at Soundworks as they show us their process for creating the soundtrack for the the Sci-fi thriller "Inception".

Can anyone give me advice on the best and cheapest way to improve sound in this room that I am turning into a small full time video studio. Right now audio sounds terrible. Very loud, echo-y, harsh.

Here are two pics of my studio space and what i am working with:

Ok this may get slightly long winded but please bear with me....

i'm recording a live wrestling event. I have a 2 Sony cameras one at the ringside on as a hard cam on the stage. What i want is to record live commentary and get crowd noise as well, and i would like the commentary to go through the PA system as well so as the crowd can hear it. PLus we would swing the hard cam round to do wrestler interviews, but again i would like the sound to go on to tape and out over the PA..

I hope this makes sense and i hope someone can advise me

I do LOTS of VO out of my home studio and recently a friend has been trying to get me to switch from my AKG 414 to a Neumann U87. Curious if there are any techies in here with an opinion. Samples of my AKG can be heard on my website.

I love my sound, but he insists Neumann is richer. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have a Canon XH-A1 and I wanted to know how to improve the sound quality of my audio, either while setting up the camera or via post production (I use Soundtrack Pro) the audio I get sounds empty or hallow, the subject of my videos are usually only 3-5 feet away from the camera, and I don't want to invest in a new more expensive mic at the moment as I am still kinda new at this.

Any tips?

Hello again everyone,

I would like to turn one of the closets in my theater/editing room into a voiceover
booth. I get way too much distortion trying to do voiceovers in the room
itself. I was thinking of shrinking the closet down, angling the ceiling and
lining the entire room with packing blankets. I have also purchased the 32
square foot foam kit on Amazon (the $59 one) and was thinking of using that to
make bass traps for the corners as well as pattern it on the door and walls. It's
not enough to cover the room but I'm hoping it will deaden the room. Does this
sound like a good plan, do I need a special kind of glass to make the viewing
window in the door. Any tips would be great. Thanks

Quick survey.... When you import audio into a video project, what format(s) do you prefer?

Typical project: eg. wedding video, corporate presentation, etc.
Audio content: eg. music, voice, sound FX, etc.
File type: eg. WAV / AIF / MP3, etc.
Sample rate: eg. 44.1khz, 48khz, etc.
Channels: eg. Mono / Stereo / Surround, etc.
Resolution: eg. 8-bit, 16-bit, etc.

Obviously, this varies hugely from project to project. So, consider the question for the most regular type of video work you do - a 'typical' project.

So I'm using Audacity for audio fixing. Ã??Ã? I use a directional canon DM-100 mic. Ã??Ã? The sound is great, picks my voice up very clearly. Ã??Ã? My only problem is, I dont have a sound studio, and where I film is no carpet, all walls...etc, so the sound is bouncing around a lot. Ã??Ã? Basically, I sum it up as "I sound like im in a bathroom" style.Ã??Ã?Â

here is an audio clip of myself in the location I film, I took out the background noise, pay attention to my voice, as you can hear what im talking about.

http://marklive.tv/marklivesstuff/pics/sound_test.mp3

What do i need to do in order to get rid of that style of audio where I sound like im in a bathroom?? I want to sound more 'full' i guess you can say...lol.

I dont mind learning how to do it in Vegas Pro either, cause I know it says its great for that, so whats your thoughts on fixing this type of noise?

The place is actually the kitchen is where I shoot, and No i wont buy a lapel mic, the directional mic i have will work, I just know there is a way to clean it up

Hello,
I have an upcoming project (business wise), and I am trying to figure something out.
Someone will be giving a presentation while having a separate laptop with material relevant to the presentation; my duty is to film the presentation and also bring in the laptop feed and juxtapose it live.
What hardware is needed?
I will be using a laptop with FCP 5 to capture the footage live.
Here is a link to what I have in mind.

I just got a Sanheiser ew112 pg-3 wireless kit and its range is only about two feet. After that the volume drops off quickly. I keep the transmitter in line of site with the receiver and both are on the same frequency. This system is supposed to be good for at least 100 feet. What am I doing wrong?

My question involves the reporter's audio track, the audio clips of interviewees and natural sound (NATS).

What is the best way to pan these tracks for broadcast TV? Is it better to pan the voice hard left or right and the NATsounds to the opposite? Or should the voice clips be in the middle? if so, where would you pan the other tracks?

What is the 'standard' pan for 3 minute news packages? Any ideas? Thank you.

I run a low budget wedding video business, and usually i rely on either a tape out of the church's mixer onto a cd or my built in mics to create a decent sound. What kind of mics under $100 could I buy to put on either one of my 2-camera wedding ceremony setup. Is stereo good to have?

Greetings all!

New to the forum, i have been lurking for a couple of weeks and it seems like this group has a bunch of great talent and a great community! So for my first post I thought I would start with something that I am struggling with, I am a photographer that is adding video services for my commercial clients it seems like the two mediums have alot of natural synergy.

My wife and I own a higher end hair salon, day spa and photography studio all in one facility and I am looking to use video heavily on the marketing side to show clients what can be done and how it can enhance your social media marketing. So I am learning the in's and out's of producing truly professional video, so one of the things that I want to do is record interviews of all of out service providers in a fun way, The name of the business is The Studio and I am doing a series of "Inside the Studio" where we interview each person so that prospective clients can get to know the stylist and spa service providers a little more personally.

I want to do this as a two camera interview with one camera capturing the wider shot of both and the second camera close up on the subject giving the answers.

My current kit is comprised of a Canon HF30 and a Canon XA-10, I have an Audio Technica AT-875 shotgun mic, a sony wireless lav and handheld system and an Audio Tech 2050 for doing voice overs.

The basic setup is is the HF30 doing the wide shot with no sound recording, the XA-10 has the AT shotgun boomed between the two subjects and is recording the interviewee in a close up shot.

The XA-10 has XLR inputs and records great sound, my levels are good and the sound is great. The problem I am having is in the post process and combining the two different video shots and one audio and getting everything synced up.

So my first question, is there a better way to record the audio to make post easier, would it be better to record audio on an external device rather than in camera?

Should I be capturing the audio on both cameras simply for the purposes of syncing the two video streams and then just use the audio from the XA-10.

Or am I just all wrong and there is a much better way to capture the audio?

I am using Final Cut Pro X as my NLE and I know that currently there is no multi cam support. I have been searching the forums and haven't found an answer but I do apologize if this process has been explained before and I missed it.

Thanks,

Michael
