Hello -

I'm still working in standard definition. During the next couple of months, I hope to "upgrade" to high definition. There are so many choice of cameras. However, I'm most familiar with Canon's GL2 and Panasonic's AG-DVX100B (on the SD side). So, I'm thinking about purchasing a HD camera from either Canon or Panasonic that's comparable to what I have on the SD side. For Panasonic, this would be it's AG-HVX200A HD camera. It still uses tape, but it can also use it P2 card.

So. . . for anyone who has used the HVX200A camera, how do you like it? Please share any experience you have regarding its strengths and weaknesses.

I see that the camera has a firewire port out. I have two external recording devices (both from Focus Info) which can record video via the firewire port. Would such a device work with the HVX200A??

Thank you for your time in reading this post and sharing any information.

So, there might be an obvious answer to this question, and that might be that either I am missing something simple, or that the footage is a lost cause. But in the off-chance that there might be a solution or something that can be done, here goes.

I received footage (event multi-cam footage) of an event from almost a year ago. The event was shot with hvx-200's and I received drives with what should be all of the p2 volumes (un-digitized) and some p2 footage digitized. As this was from an event shot a while ago, the original data on the p2 cards themselves is long gone.

Most of the footage digitizes fine via FCP log and transfer. But there are some clips, one volume in particular that is giving me a lot of trouble. Digitizing direct from the p2 volume via log & transfer gives me the red exclamation point error symbol immediately after the clips are put into the transfer que. It is important to note that the clips play in preview in the log and transfer window but will not convert/transfer. I tried digitizing with p2 log pro instead of FCP, again from the unchanged p2 volume, and i get a error message saying something along the lines of 'quicktime error.' This pops ups immediately. I tried running p2 log pro repair clip wizard (which has saved me on numerous occasions in the past) on the individual video files within the volume, and making new volume folders for each. This seems to run fine, but when I try to convert the new 'repaired' volume in either FCP log and transfer or direct with P2 Log Pro, i get the same error messages as before.

Any thoughts on what might be done? Or is it a lost cause given the I don't have the original p2 card data?

Thank you for your time and help.

I have the Panasonic DVX100b and I have it connected to the computer just fine. I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 I know it is probably a simple thing, but I don't know how/where in Premiere Pro to effect the transfer.

Could you please offer any quick ideas? I know it should be really simple

I have been shooting stuff with my HMC150 and love the picture. I currently have a UV filter, a polarizer and a warming filter from Tiffen.

What are your thoughts about diffusion filters and Soft/FX filters (any brand)? Are they useful or necessary on this camera? If you have some experience, can you please contribute a few tips about which filters to use in order to achieve particular "looks"?

Any advice on software filters is also welcome. Thanks!

An indigenous community needs advice on which Panasonic camera they can buy for their Participatory Video projects.

Panasonic
will be sponsoring their request by giving a discount. But they need to
request the model which will be most suitable for their needs. Could
you please guide us a bit according to the specifics below?

Budget: US$3000 - to get 2 cameras with their accessories. Hopefully the discount will be substantial.

Output
target: acceptable TV quality for local viewing in Malaysia. But does
not have to be high end (naturally, with the budget!).

Editing software: Windows 7, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier

Shooting
environment: will definitely include some humid places in the forest.
They lost their older Canon HV40 cameras to problems caused by humidity.

I am volunteering for this group. Personally I am carrying a
TM700. I like it, but editing gave me some problems and its full HD
ability actually cost me in terms of weight of several external drives
to carry around with me. They could get that one, but it is now out of
shelves. Perhaps we could use TM900 as the benchmark for any suggestions
you may have.

We got little time before they meet Panasonic, so any prompt responses will be highly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Just curious, I use the Panasonic Hmc 40 and 150.

I generally film it on normal and mess with colors in After FX, and Color Curves. This has worked for a while, but when your doing a 30 min infomercial...it gets tedious. Does anybody have any settings they use for TV that really just kill it and look amazing. Usually filming at 30fps.

Also.....Looking to upgrade.....anybody purchase any of the new cameras that came out this year...and which ones...??

Hello

I bought this video camera which came from a storage unit that had other video equipment inside. It appears to be in good condition, I have NOT powered it up or tested it. Photos here: https://picasaweb.google.com/fmfelker/CameraVideoPanasonicWVV3?authkey=Gv1sRgCOrj5IqrgMWbmAE#

1. Can you give me an idea of how much I should sell this camera for and who would buy such a camera and to use it for what purpose?

2. Does it appear in the photos that all the cords are there to power up the camera?

3. Any comments on the camera or selling it?

Hi, I'm Tyler. Im going to college for video production soon. I'm debating what camcorder to get. I really like the Panasonic AG-HMC40 because of all the reviews i read about it were good. It's a great deal at only 2000 dollars too. I was also looking at the JVC GZ HD7U, but i dont like the .tod format. I have a macbook pro and i use final cut express. I just want an advanced camcorder that is not to complicated and will last me through college. Is the Panasonic AG-HMC40 a generally good camcorder? I really like it but i need to know if ifs a good camcorder. Thank you

Hello everyone. I'm new here, but I love the site and I love the forums.

I've worked in independent film for about 4 years, but mostly as a co-producer and sometimes Unit Production Manager. I'm just now getting my hands dirty with the technical stuff. I've shot weddings before and want to buy a prosumer camcorder for future weddings and short movies. The whole wedding thing kind of rules out the DSLRs that are so popular now.

I've been leaning toward Panasonic. Particularly the HPX-170. But I'm concerned with using the P2 technology. I wanted to edit via FCE 4.0 on my Macbook Pro, but I'm discovering FCE doesn't support P2.

I'm wary to try upgrading to Final Cut Studio for fear it will slow my laptop down immensely. But I also wanted the CCD sensors vs. the CMOS that Sony and Canon are putting in all their cameras now, which leaves Panasonic as my only option.

I looked at the HVX200 because it records P2 AND Mini-DV but I want a camera that records 1080p and 24p, and I feel like there is no perfect option for what I want. Here's what I want to do:

Price - $2000-$4000
XLR inputs
1080p and 24p
1/3" CCD (ideally)

Any ideas? Please help! I'm drowning in specs.

I'm going to shot a basketball match and than I'd like put this video on web, with H.264 (640*360). I'd like to know IF and HOW can I shoot directly in with this risolution (640*360) in 25 P (PAL) or better, in 50 P.

Otherwise, I think, I've to shoot in 720 25P or 50 P and than resize oder compress video in H.264 (640*360).

(I'm interest about using Progerssive 50 (or 60) FPS in low resolituion for check what is good and what is wrong for the capacity of this Camcorder...)

I want to get a new camera and I can't afford very much so I'm looking in the $500-$600 range... I've been doing a ton of research and one camera that really caught my eye was the Lumix GF1... which is primarily for photography... but it has awesome video as well. I wanted to know if anyone had anything to say about this camera or knows anything about it.

I was also looking at the Olympus PEN that's mostly for photography and has great video as well, but it can only hold 7 mins worth of video at a time (I think that's even with a memory card)... So if anyone knows a way that it could hold more video than that, let me know!

Also, If anyone has any low budget camera suggestions that would be great! I want something with good depth of field... it would be a plus if it can work with an external mic... I'm having a hard time finding something perfect.

I'm new to this camera, but I really feel like an idiot asking this question. Everything Panasonic prints says that the XLR inputs are Line/Mic selectable (for 0 db or -50/-60 db). The leftmost audio switches on the side, from what I can tell, simply switch the source of channel 1 and 2, and the right two switches turn on/off +48V phantom power.

Where in the heck do you select Line or Mic level input?

All the manuals imply this is an obvious thing, but I plead total ignorance here.

Can somebody steer me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Hi, I have a few questions about the HMC-150.

1. The manual indicates that it is possible to upload some metadata to the camera using a file on an SD card. The metadata is incorporated into the recorded clips. So far, so good but how does one create the metadata? Is there a software application which does this? The manual is curiously reticent about this. It seems to be badly translated from Japanese; full of grammatical errors.

2. Is there an option to display a rule-of-thirds grid on the LCD/viewfinder? I could not find anything in the manual.

3. There are some menu options for storing a "User File". What settings are stored in the user file?

Thanks!

Lately I've been putting up videos shot with DSLR rigs. Well just to show that traditional ENG style cam's are by no means out of the picture yet, here's one by Mirko Faienza called "My Grandfather's Garden" It was shot with a Panasonic AG-HPX500 and the stock 17.5 x lens. It's is a bit pricier rig than the average VM reader is thinking about getting, but it does show you don't necessarily need full on shallow DOF to get great imagery. Enjoy.

I am just a beginner but I will purchase the AG HMC150.

Question: The optional AG MC2006 mic - Do I really need it? The AG HMC 150 according to the brochure comes with stereo mic.

Question: Is there a video on how to use the AG HMC 150?

im no professional, but im steadily making a name for myself doing promo videos, commercials, etc.. for various music artist in the area. ive been doing all this with a sony handycam. iv e been asked to film parties and weddings but i cant bring myself to do it with that lil camera! i also want to do music videos, small comedic skits, and documentaries. my question is which camera should i buy? the pan. AG-HMC40 or the pan. AG_HMC70AVC (i choose that one because i think customers would respect a bigger camera). any opinions would be greatly appreciated
