I am currently making the transition from 720 x 576 'standard' video in 16:9, to AVC/mp4. I have upscaled some of my best 'Standard' footage from 720 x 576 to 1280 x720 without too much loss of quality, and occasionally, even a slight improvement. I intend to reprocess incoming High definition material to the same format. The idea is to be able to edit material in the same timeline, without redundancy of my earlier material, since it has been assembled over almost six years. I must, in time, re-format 104 DVD's full, (some over-full), of DV-AVI from my present camcorder, as that work is assembled into batches, and processed overnight, in batches of 25 to 40 clips, or so. It has been an ideal opportunity to convert to progressive-scan, and I have done that too. All processing has been carried out in TMPGEnc 'Video Mastering Works 5', although 'workarounds' are possible using 'Virtualdub' and 'avidemux' as well.

When I introduce my material onto the MEP17 timeline, the software gives me an option of conversion 'to another format'. I have experience of 'proxy' files from my days with Ulead's 'Media Studio 8', and I would quite happily use the proxy system again, despite the slight delays in writing the 'proxies' to another drive, before use.

Proxies, in short, would be very handy to me. A conversion of the virgin material to another format, such as mpg2, would be useless, and for the standard footage, negate the reason for all the work I have put in so-far. Is anyone, please, able to tell me, whether the 'alternative' files offered when footage is introduced onto the timeline, are 'proxies' (and hence, non-destructive of the original footage), or merely one-way conversions to an unwanted format, which is of no use to me.

Hi folks, I'm hoping to step from the DVC30 MiniDV standard Def to the Panasonic AG-HMC40 tapeless HD format. A local shop is letting me use the camera for two weeks to see if I will like it enough to purchase (nice!) But already the HD format is troubling me for lack of exposure and understanding what it actually is and how it works. I've done a few days worth of reading on the subject and I'm probably more confused than before... ouch, brain lock.

I'm hoping someone out there has this combo and has this figured where they would be willing to help me out..

I shoot mainly hand held, indoors with studio lighting (bright lighting), action sports etc. I need to take the footage and convert it to a web download package, typically WMV and then create a DVD as well. Nothing too fancy but it has to be of a wide useability. Standard Def and MEP14+ does all that perfectly for my needs.. but in HD with MEP17+HD wow.

From what I've read, for the type of action I'm shooting I should use 1080 30P as a setting on the camera.. I can edit this in MEP17 no problems with my PC set up, but when I go to convert it to WMV or other web formats, the aspect ration does appear to be 'squat'.. a little wider and shorter than it actually is.. I can't seem to remedy this. It doesn't look quite right, even though its converted to 16:9

If you have a lot of this figured out with HD and MEP 17, and would be willing to help a lad with the step across from SD to HD, it would much appreciated..

ideally I'd love to hook up with someone who is set up to provide one on one training to get me started..

seaking@eastlink.ca

Cheers

If not able to merge myself into the HD world of thing I'm going to have to get myself a DTE recorder on the DVC30 to get away from the tapes issues..

I have Magix Movie Edit HD 17 Plus Pro. I can burn a regular sidebyside dvd but when plyed on a 3Dplayer, it does not recognize it as a 3D disk.

Can Magix Movie Edit HD 17 Plus Pro create a disc that is recognizable to a 3Dplayer and 3DTV? If so, how? I use both .avi from fuijifilm w3 and .mts from JVC TD1.

I made several discs, data, mpeg, avi, and standard dvd, but sidebyside and non of them worked when I took it to Bestbuy to test on the latest players.

Also, Magix Movie Edit HD 17 Plus Pro doesn't recognize JVC's MVC files. Do I have to export MVC files as left and right and then sync into 3D?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is the right site to be at, but if someone here could help me I'd appreciate it.

I have a Panasonic Camcorder PV GS59 that came with MotionDV Studio 5.6 and Quick Movie Magic. I recently bought Magix Movie Edit 12. I can only edit on Magix if I load it from MotionDV, which is fine, but I got a computer with Vista and MotionDV won't download to it. I tried loading the movie through Windows movie Maker, but when I tried to get it to Magix, the sound was messed up. So I found a download on Panasonic for MotionDV for Vista (http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/soft/download/motionDV60E_LE_1.html) but I have no idea how to download it... Can anyone help me please?

just click on the title tab near the effects tab. then you can drag and drop a style of a title that you want to use. after you do this it will then open up a title editor where you can change the text to whatever you desire.
hope that helps. the last time that i used movie edit pro was about 1 1/5 years ago but it should be similar.
Magix Movie Edit Pro 10 E Version, is by far absolutely inferior, in my opinion. Once I started to make high quality (not hi def) it started to give me different types of memory errors and I could not fix it. If I tried to do anything slightly intense, from then on, it would crash. Therefore, it was a progressive , not immediate problem. I tried uninstall/reinstall, regedit and repair utilities.. you name it I probably did it. Unfortunately Magix tech support couldn't figure it out either.

So, I upgraded to Version 11 Boxed.

I had to clean the registry up from the old version and also download the patch for it from Magix.com

Wow, its awesome. I can actually go way over 720X480 resolution to the maximum 1920X1020 in the down mix before I burn the DVD . Alhtough it burns back down to 720 it is much fuller picture than if I down mixed using a compressed format. The effect is a much fuller interlace then if I just down mixed at 720X. Yes, it still ends up as 720X resolution but its a better 720X.

Therefore, before I burn , I chose to export using the "AVI with no compression" and set the resolution up before I run it. I can only do this with a short video under 10 minutes because the file size ratio in this format is 10 G per minute and I only have 60g free on my hard drive after virtual memory.

However, I am so amazed that this can be done on my old 1.8 G P4 pc with 512 PC 133 ram and with no crashes.
I think these specific MAGIX issues will need to be resolved via support from their website. It sounds like they have some problems in their software.

Try their FAQ, then if that doesn't cover it, try their support forum and if you stil have a problem, try contacting them directly (Sprechen sie deutsch?)

http://site.magix.net/english-us/home/support/

Good luck, and please let us know how it all turns out!
