Will the .MOD flormat for capturing video be "mainstreem" soon, it is used with only JVC Everio camcorders but I was wondering if it is a good flormat to use and capture video in or will no one use it in the next few years.

I am debating weather to keep or return my JVC Harddrive camcorder (Everio 30GB Hard Drive with 34x optical zoom)
Thanks,
I just started using my to video things and each time the camera is very warm or hot. Is the normal for it to do?

On a impulse I purchased the GZ M200 after looking at it with the rep at a local Best Buy. I did buy it on Amazon later and am now wondering...... I thought I would be able to use the SD cards to download the video to my PC or Mac rather than connect the camera. After reading the manual, there is no mention of this method and indicates only way is to connect GZ M200 to the PC or Mac.

I also do not have a BR burner although I do have an HDTV and BR Player. I see that one can create HD DVDs using the standard DVD but, because of the size, there is a limit to how much you can record to the DVD. Again, I thought that using a DL DVD would allow you to add a longer video to the disk, but have not been able to confirm that.

Another concern is that I am moving to a Mac and the provided software is Windows only. I could use it on XP under Parallels and I do have Nero and Roxio products for editing and burning. I am getting Toast Titanium and the BR Plug-in for the Mac, and I believe I can use this to download the video files from the GZ HM200. I believe iMovie 09 will also do this.

Can anyone confirm that I can use the GZ HM200 as stated above and comment on the use of a SD Card Reader to download the movie files versus downloading from the GZ HM200? Does the GZ HM200 configure the video files in some way as it downloads to the PC ? Mac?

Thanks...

Hey,

I'm new to camcorders. I recently wanted to get a digital camcorder so my brother and I could record some nintendo video reviews, news, etc. My brother is also a musicia, and I'd like a decent camcorder to record some of his jam sessions, and other random videos of his band. And also maybe some random family videos.

Anyway, I first looked at some cheaper camcorders, (MoviePix DV-80, Creative Vado, RCA EZ205) But wanted a better one, for video and sound quality. And a decent frame rate. Anyway, I started looking at the Kodak ZI6 for about $178CDN with a 4gb sd card. It seemed ok for what I want, but it doesn't have image stabilization, and I would like to move the camcorder around a decent amount sometimes without a ton of blur.

Anyway, to my point. I see a JVC GZ-MC100U on clearance for $299. It used to be alot more years ago.
JVC GZ-MC100U Site: http://www.jvc.ca/en/CONSUMER/product-detail.asp?model=GZ-MC100U
It on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002X7V4I/ref=asc_df_B0002X7V4I736249?smid=ASH1H6YCFH4EF&tag=cnet-ce-mp-20&linkCode=asn

Now, this is where I need some help. I understand when looking for pretty much anything, you should go online, and search around for reviews and info, and videos if possible, to help make your decision. My problem is, the JVC GZ-MC100U is an older camcorder, it first appeared on amazon on September 14, 2004. So it's been about 4 and a half years. The latest review on amazon is from 2007, and the others from 2006 and earlier. I can't seem to find any new reviews. And since technology changes so fast, I don't know if its badly outdated.

Then I see something like the kodak zi6 which came on amazon in July 2008, less than a year, and is quite less.

So I came to a camcorder forum, hoping someone can help me. Is the JVC GZ-MC100U a good price for $299 today?
Or should I wait, and try to find a newer digital camcorder for around $300 to $400? Or just grab the kodak zi6?
(I know to get a very good one they are way more, but I just can't afford something like that now,)

Anyway, any help, oppinions, would really be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and hope I can suck up as much info as possible from all you pros. Anyway, I have a JVC Everio HDD 20GB that I bought about 3 years ago. I have only used the cheap CyberLink Director Pro editing software that came with the camera. It's alright, but I want to upgrade. I've been looking at nicer cameras like the Canon XL1, Sony HVR-Z1U, and JVC HD100u. I only want to spend between $1000-$2500. I like my little Everio because of the ease of no tapes, but all these seem to be miniDV. Can anyone suggest a good camera to upgrade to. I mostly shoot in the wind shots and if I can get nice enough equipment, I'm looking to start making snowmachine videos like Slednecks.

The second part of this question is editing software. I have been looking at Sony Vegas and Apple Final Cut. Should I even be worried about this until I upgrade computers? Thanks to everyone for your help!!!

I am brand new to this forum, so be kind to me. I'm also an old guy. Here's my question. I have a JVC 30 G camcorder that I bought about a year and a half ago. I enjoy it, with some reservations. But yesterday I took it up in an open cockpit bi-plane and kept getting a "video failure" message. It would stop recording and ask me if I wanted to repair the video. I'm not sure what the message was. I was having too much fun in the plane that all I did was enter "yes". But I discovered that I did not get any of the video from the flight. Why did this happen? My guess is that there may have been too much buffetting from the 100 MPH wind. Why did this happen? Last year I did a tandom sky dive but did not take the camera. I plan on doing that again and plan on taking the camera. Will I experience the same problem? I don't want to take the camera if it won't work.

Help,

Got a couple of tips, borrowed from the film industry.Â

1: Audio recording.  On a recent outdoor shoot that I had all of five minutes to prepare for after being asked to record it for webcast, I put a ZOOM H-4 SD card audio recorder on the ground in front of the PA speaker.  In post-production (Using Movie Edit Pro 11) I simply synched the audio track from the camera with the audio from the recorder.  The recording was about 15 minutes long and I observed no drift in the synch.  The other advantage was that the camera mic picked up a ton of wind noise that was not a problem for the recorder at ground level.  I plan to make a zeppelin/fishpole arrangement for the H-4, which also sports a line level monitor output that could be dropped to mic level and fed directly to the camera.  While not a shotgun, the X-Y microphones are highly directional.

 (2) Audio monitoring:  While browsing a local Costco, I stumbled across a "Rear View Video Camera Kit".  The part that caught my eye was that the 3.5" LCD monitor had an aux A/V input.  I simply take the A/V output from the camera, some RCA barrel connectors and a 12V battery pack to power the whole thing and Bingo! I have a video/audio monitor for director/sound use.  One thing, since there is no volume control, use headphones that incorporate one.  Closed-ear types work best.  You can also enable your in-viewfinder audio level monitor, although it appears to be a bit on the slow side.  The price of the camera, monitor and cables in a blister pack?  $69.95!  I'm still figuring out what use I can put the tiny color camera to, it broadcasts wi-fi 2.7 GHz video directly to the little monitor with a range of roughly 30ft.Â

The JVC Everio camcorder line uses a pripatary flormat to record into called .MOD!

Why can't they do something like a standard format instead of something odd?

Anyone know if Pinnacle Studio, Adobe Premire Elements or Premiere supports this format?
I'm starting to panic. I recently purchased a JVC GR-HD1 (mistake number one) and did some tests shots. The video captured fine to my laptop as a test. Then I filmed a wedding this past weekend and got over six hours of footage with the camera in HD mode. Now I am ready to capture and edit, and I can't get the video captured correctly. Here's what I'm using:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 with 1 GB or RAM, 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Capture utility within Premiere
Firewire Connection between JVC and computer

When I plug in the camcorder via Firewire, the computer recognizes it as a AV/C Device, not a JVC Tape Device as the manual and other online forums say it should. When I capture video, the picture looks fine, but the audio is malfunctioning -- specifically, it only gets the first 15 seconds or so of audio, and loops it for the whole hour long tape! The audio on the tape is fine as I watch it and listen to it on the JVC with headphones. What could be going wrong?

Also, when I try to manually install my JVC Tape Device as it asks, my computer (Win XP) doesn't have JVC as the name of a manufacturer!

JVC Support won't help, and no one else seems to know what to do... If I don't get this video out soon, I'll be up a creek with the bride!

I agree with brandon. CHeck out the advice on the other thread you created.

I would rather see you get two GL-2's or two VX2100's than one camera of any sort, especially Hi Def.

Whileon the pro end, Studios have standardized their Hi def work, Prosumer and consumer grade hi definition is still not standardized, nor is it even compatible with 90% of the TV's out there.

You said in your othr post that this is for your church.Again, let me ask you, if you are a churchgoer, which would you prefer:

One camera angle all the time for the entire length of the film. It's recorded in hi def, so to play the video you need to buy a hi def player for several hundred dollars.

-or-

Multiple camera shots and angles becaue of two cameras that keeps the eye interested. The full quality format will play on any Television with standard VCR or DVD player.

Personally, hi def sounds all snazzy, and it will eventually dominate the industry. But right now, focus on what you NEED. Get yourself two Standard Definiton cameras, and you'll have a lot better result. Hi def might be cool for you, but unless all of your congregants have hi def video players, it's not worth the expense.

Hi compusolver... Sorry for the long post. It's hard for me too since I have to use a reading glass myself.

Basically I just needed info from users on the JVC MC500. I found out a lot about it already and from what they're saying it's suppose to be a very high tech camera in a super small package. Last nite I downloaded a video clip, the "duck movie", taken outdoor with that camera and it look great.

On the other hand, I don't really need that much high tech or the tiny size. I make dvds for family and friends to save memories for the grandkids. It's a hobbie but my main problem for the past 4 years have been sticking to a cheap camcorder that have no video quality.
What I need is:
1) A camcorder that produce a very high quality video. I shoot mostly fast moving watercraft in the sunny Colorado River. A little bit of sunset and night take too.
2) Good auto funtion is important since I don't have any experience yet using the manual controls.
3) Steady zooming big pluss... My hands aren't steady anymore so I need help from a good camera and a tripod.

Transfering the videos to computer has always been easy for me via firewire, USB or the video capture card.
My editing and Dvds burning is done using Ulead VS8 without a problem.
Still funtion isn't importand if I get a really good video. It doesn't matter to me if the camcorder is an older model or not if I can save some money and still have the quality I want...
Could you or anybody at this forum help me on what will be a good camcorder for me?

Sorry it's a long post again. Thanks.
