I checked it today and it does not appear on the screen. I guess it reallyb only appears in low light.

No, the dot doesn't move, however it does sort of flash to green. I think it is just something it may do in low light, but I am not sure.

It may be one of your camcorder's methods of manual control, as in a way it's telling you what it's doing.

Does the dot ever move?

It's kind of a flashing red dot. I am fairly shure it is in the camera and is not the reflection of the record indicator I am charging my camcorder right now so as soon as it is finished charging, I will check. Thanks for you answer. :)

A SOLID red dot, or a flashing red dot? Is it possible that you are picking up a red dot resulting from the camera's recording indicator light? Is there one on the front of your camera? If so, covering the light with a small piece of friction or black tape will take care of the problem. I know of no technical element otherwise that would be causing a red dot on the display and in the footage, nor can I imagine or perceive a need for it, other than some kind of record indicator.

I am looking for an intervalometer for the JVC everio camcorder.
I have been looking on the video effect - Time Lapse. And since i only have a regular digital video camera, i wanted to buy this accesory, since it isn't an option in the menu bar.

A basic method for editing would be to get a video converter and then use Windows Movie Maker. If you want something easy and convenient, yet functional, check out AVS's Free Video Editor.

Thanks for the reply!
Yes as stated in my post it is Cybelink software. I tried the software on two different computers both with XP Pro. My lap top that has the smallest processor is 1.50 gigs with RAM of 1.25 gigs. I got the exact error on both computers. Not long ago I up graded my lap top from XP Home to XP Pro and did a full restoration and did all the service packs so I do not think I have a virus. From what I have read on many forums I am not the only one having problems with the Cybelink software.

As stated above in my post Cybelink sent me a link to newer software and still had some problems. One of the problems with the new software was I could not even open power director and they sent me another links for other software but was out of town and the time limit ran out. Once again I tried the software on both my computers. Sorry been a while since I did much with it and not sure exactly what the errors where but will try to found out.

I got the sound to work on other programs like Windows Meide Player, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 by installing a AC3 filter program but does not help unless I get all that I give a DVD to unless they all so install the program.

Is there any software I can buy that is NOT Cyberlink that will do what I would like.
Thanks

The software that came with your camcorder is probably Cyberlink PowerDirector Express - Cyberlink's own "Windows Movie Maker". All of JVC's hard disk camcorders record in MPEG-2, or AVCHD if the format is HD. If you're looking to convert your video due to compatibility issues, import it with PowerDirector and render it in a different format.

Anyway, what type of errors did you get with PowerDirector? There may be a problem with your computer system or a virus. Possibly some corrupted system files or simply a slow processor. Have you rebooted your system and got the same errors? I know that it has happened to my PC when nothing can run or install.

I have been a JVC fan for years I bought my last JVC product I will every buy a JVC MG335. I bought this camera about a year ago and with all the problems I have had with the POOR Cyberlink software that comes with it did not use it much. I have had more time on my hand lately so I started playing around with it again. After MANY emails to customer service with JVC and Cyberlink I have found out they are not much help if any!!!!!!!! Basically JVS just blow me off. Cybelink set me s link to other software then what came with the camera but it is not much better if any. I get errors all the time and I have tried it on two different computers with the same operating system XP Pro and get the exact same errors.

I understand about JVC format and was wondering what is a GOOD software that will work with this camera that I will be able to change the format so I do not have to use the VERY POOR Cyberlink software to play it back. Right now I can play it with other software like Windows Media Player and others but do not have any sound. The only way I can play it back and have sound is to use the POOR Cyblerlink software.

I want to be able to burn DVDs so I can give them to friends and family and they will be able to play them and have sound with out having to use Cyberlink software to do it.
Thanks

The mic jack was a 1/8" stereo jack that was wired into the camcorder's stereo (probably a condenser) mic. Yeah, I'll make a blog about it when I have time, and I have plenty of pictures too.

Exactly what I would have done...perhaps also matching the impedance with the new mic

Was it mono or stereo mic? So you soldered the wires to a 1/8th jack? I take it when you plug the external mic in, it cuts out the existing mic...

Adding pics to your blog helps

Good going dood...Most would have wimped out and started crying

After a few minutes of searching the camcorder and finding the right place to un-screw, we were able to find the tiny stereo microphone wires, cut them to sodder a mic jack, and then drill a hole in the bottom panel to mount the jack. The results were surprisingly good. All microphones I have tested work - including some cheap PC mics, the impedance is not bad, and the audio level is fine (definitely a better amplifier than the experience I had with a computer).

I plan to create a blog in the future telling how to add a mic jack to a JVC Everio camcorder.

Thanks for the advice.

There are 2 types of "larger" CCDs.

One type is the physical size of each pixel within the CCD. The smaller the pixel, the more light it needs to present an image. Larger pixels can see "better" in low light conditions. So the bigger the overall CCD (1/5, 1/3, 1/2, 3/4) the less light they need to see the same scene.

The other type is more pixels. This provide better resolution and improves picture quality. 720X480 (345600 pixels) is about 1/6 the size of a 1920X1080 (2073600). 2 basic type of digital stability are; 1) move each frame so that the scene appears the same and crop the edges giving you a smaller image. 2) similar to 1 but the frame is enlarged so that the image will retain the pixel count after processing so you get a minor digital zoom on your scene which could pixelate/degrade the image. Keep in ming this loss of resolution might be acceptable over a very shakey and otherwise unusable image.

Optical Stabilization moves the optics or CCD or both to keep the image stable and does not impact image resolution.

3 CCD. people think that 3CCD cameras have better resolution because they have 3 times the pixel count. What is overlooked is that during processing the 3 images are added/overlayed on each other. This can provide a small improvement to resolution because of the averaging that goes on but because of the individual colors being recorded, the biggest impact they have is in the color reproduction of the scene.

Earl said:
The Everio GZ MG 155U has an optical/digital zoom, and 1/6" CCD (1.07) megapixel CCD... Sorry, but use of this will further challenge the image quality of an already tiny CCD signal.

I understand that larger CCDs promote higher resolutions, but I doubt the SD picture quality is limited because of its size. If I got a camcorder that was exactly the same (720x480) only it was a 3ccd, would there be a difference? Maybe they would create more stabal videos because of their broad capture range.
