Edius Neo 2 "Booster" is arguably the best option for editing AVCHD on the PC - and absolutely my first choice. It handles native AVCHD amazingly well. With Neo 2 "Booster" you can edit AVCHD natively even with a low end quad. I've been using it with an AMD Phenom 9850, editing NX5U and HMC40 footage quite smoothly without even transcoding to Canopus HQ.

Good advice. I'll add to make sure the system you get meets the requirements Edius says will allow you to work with with no problems. Compression codec's like AVCHD take a lot of computing power and you want to make sure your computer has it.

It is in my opinion. Capable, versitile, and veeery affordable. You can snag up photoshop, after effects and plugins as needed. Should you outgrow Edius later on, you'll know exactly what your needs are at that time and upgrade accordingly.

I just found a new set of Edius 5 comprehensive video tutorials recently released at

http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/ediuspro101

They cover in 60 topics all the basic features as well as provide in depth instruction for the more complex tools. The visual presentation layout is very effective as well.

The author is a very eperienced award winning editor, so the focus is on production workflow.

Excellent pricing. $25 a month (cancel at any time, no contract) gave me access to Edius and all the other tutorials on the site any time of day or night. The tutorial set can be downloaded as well for $49.

Avoiding the usual trial and error and constantly looking things up in
the manual has already saved me hours. These tutorials are just what I needed
in making a transition from Premiere to Edius 5.

First off, have you tried rebooting and re-installing Adobe Premiere 6.5? On certain occasions, small conflicts can happen within the copying/extracting of files. Also, check the system requirements that came with your software package. Fast processing power (speed of processor) is one of the biggest keys to good editing experience.

May not sound like a huge deal with any new computer, but can dramatically affect the amount of power the editor is given to generate video - might be your preview problem.

Another great strength that Edius has is being part of Grass Valley's infrastructure with their Indigo video mixers and other high end video gear. Event videographers really benefit from that.

My understanding is that Edius is lacking in some advanced areas like alpha support, plus there aren't many plugins for it, but other than that it's pretty good. The main claim to fame is impressive real-time performance, either with or without optional hardware cards like Edius NX. It also apparently has some of the best support available for the latest HD formats, including most camera-specific HDV modes and excellent DVCProHD support in the "Broadcast" version of the product.

For more info see these links:
This has probably been discussed before, but why is there no forum here for Edius? Where I live there are about as many videographers using Edius as either Premiere Pro or Final Cut and more so than Vegas, for what that's worth. Just wondering...
