Hey all,

You all have helped so much when I was figuring out what "prosumer" equipment to buy, and many other technical questions i had. Â All the equipment is in, and a friend of a friend starting up a new business asked me to make a web video that he is intending to use on his website. It's my first video, and its obvious I'm not professional/experienced - my acquaintance knew this up front, and wasn't expecting professional. After seeing the video his comment was that he liked the video, but hated himself in it....and I'm not sure exactly where to go from there. Anyway, any advice on how to make my next video more professional, or how to improve upon this one? I'd appreciate any insight/advice you may have!

http://vimeo.com/12641205

I've been taking video for years and have had a number of camcorders...Sony to Canon...but now want to get into documentary recording. My question is which camera do you all recommend under $2000? And why?

Thanks.

I saw that a similar question was discussed about a year ago here without a real answer and I have posted this in the Amature video editing forum on yahoo and Thought this may be a more appropriate place to post this question.

I bought a Sony HVR-HD1000u camera which is marketed as an entry level pro camera. In the manual under specifications it had this text under the header NOTES ON LICENSE.

How does this apply to the camera use?

Good day, I am new to this but been reading a lot of information on this forums and I found out all the people are very helpful.

I just purchased the NewBlue AVCHD upshift last nite, and all went well..but when I opened this converted files and I cannot insert into the Corel video Pro X3 at all. Error msg is " There is no video data"?? But I am able to play those converted video in Window Media Player and able to insert into the Sony Vegas Pro 9......Any idea??

I am using Window7 64 bits, does it really matter with the corel software??

I am thinking of purchasing DJ Fonts from Digital Juice. My question is; Has any one here used DJ Fonts? Can it be used in conjunction with Sony Vegas pro? Is DJ Fonts it's own program, and if so how do you import the fonts into Vegas? Do you create a movie file and drop them like standard media and then edit them into a project?Or do they work a different way?

Before I drop dollars on this, I want to know more about it. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

I'm interested to use the 'Ken Burns' effect within travel style doco's where a B & W still shot comes to 'life' with colour and movement (video). I'm aware of the basics and also the video editing processes.

My question centers around preparation, pre shooting thoughts, resolution requirements of the still images etc. and possibly examples!

Equipment is a Sony HXR-NX5U used at highest def., Nikon D5000 for the stills and FCE4.

Hello,

I have to livestream video of a presenter giving a presentation live from the US to an audience in France. I have a Canon GL2 and a video encoder/server. We are going to use livestream.com or a similar service. I have a couple of questions. First, any suggestions for shooting a presentation screen? We will be in a classroom. I should be able to close blinds and just leave the normal lights on. I just do not want the screen to be washed out so that the audience will be able to see & read it well. I need lighting suggestions all the way around, the presenter is very dark complected so I want to make sure the lighting is right so that it complements her as well as the screen. I'm sure I need other tips...Ive never done live streaming before! Thanks so much! :)

I am currently attending film school and I have about $5000 to $6000 to spend on a Video Editing Setup. I doing alot of research right now and I have an idea what I'm planning to buy, I have my own preferences but I want to know what the members of the Videomaker forum would do for their own setups having my budget.

I'm not going to list my potential Video Editing Setup because I want an unbias response but would like to see what type of gears you all are leaning towards.

Additional info; I planning to shoot my Films and projects in HD, so setup your gear towards those specs. I'm trained in the basics of editing software (FCP, Vegas & Avid), so learning new editing software is not a problem. Also, I plan to buy a prosumer market camcorder and equipment next semester but PLEASE limited your responses to Video Editing setups.

Details would be greatly appreciated. (example; type of computer, mouse, keyboards, monitors, editing platform, etc.)

I am going to be filming a project in a couple weeks where we have a character watching a weather report on TV. We are going to have a pre-made video of me as the weather man. I was wondering what would be the best way to display the video on the screen. Obviously if we just filmed the TV screen with the camera it wouldn't really turn up. I was planning on just inserting the video into the TV space in editing. But if anybody has a better way to do it I would love to here it. Thanks, -Daniel.

I'm in the process of building a new PC dedicated for editing.

My question concerns how to set-up the hard-drives.

My current HD set-up is as follows:

1-HD for the OS

1-HD for programs

1-HD for projects

1-Hot-swap HD with captured video

How should I make use of the HDs in my new PC and should I use RAID0 or RAID5?

Here's what I was thinking for the new PC:

1-HD for the OS?

1-HD for programs?

1-RAID (0 or 5?) for projects and captured video?

What is the best solution for shooting video now? Mini DV, Hard Drive Disk, or the Solid-State P2?
And what HD camera is the best for around 2,000-3,000? Should I keep filming with Mini DV or Switch??
I went to Best Buy a few days ago looking for a Mini DV Camera and they didn't have any and the lady working that department told me I was old school and needed to up grade to what they had the HDD and Solid-State. I couldn't believe that. My Canon GL2 was worth more than all of those there!(even tho i know the price of that cam is no longer the same but still).

Apple just revealed the new Apple iPad Tablet that will probably make it one of the first failures by Apple's latest line of products. Apple revealed this new Tablet PC as a challenger to netbooks. However, it's already been labeled a "less powerful, but more expensive netbook." Here are 14 iPad problems that made this Apple iPad an iDisappointment.

1. No Multitasking
The Apple iPad is just like the iPhone, in that there is no multitasking. You can't work on a document and talk on AIM or Gtalk. In other words, the iPad just a giant iPod Touch (the iPod Touch being better) and cannot match netbooks.

2. It Has an Awkward Design
The design is a bit awkward because you have to hold it in one hand and balance it while your other hand uses the functionality or more likely you will need to put it on your knees to use it properly. It's like holding a monitor, I'm sure nothing will happen to it.

Some people complain about the Bezel being too large, but perhaps this was necessary so that you don't constantly give commands while moving around.

3. No Adobe Flash
Were you considering watching Hulu on this? How about youtube (well we'll have to wait for an app for that)? Thinking of playing flash games while waiting on the bus? Oh well.

4. No USB, Need Adapters
Again with the iPod design, you need to plug in the special Apple adapter. If you lose it, you'll have to buy another. If you want to plug in multiple devices you need USB to iPad adapters! Since it's not even using Mac OS, most USB devices would probably not work anyway.

5. AT&T Once Again
Are you thinking of purchasing the 3G version? You'll need to get it with AT&T and think of how overloaded their service will be now. There is no Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint service available for this product, some of which has better coverage. You can't use T-Mobile's 3G at all because of their MicroSIM made specifically for AT&T.

6. Memory Business Model
Apple will charge you extra for higher memory. It's a business model they use for all their products to increase profits. That's why they don't want other storage devices being inserted to improve memory. You're also stuck with a limit of 64GB, so don't think about putting in all your music, movies, or games.

7. Touch Keyboard
Many people were complaining about the touchscreen keyboard. Which would be fine if it worked perfectly and you didn't have to sit it exactly on your lap and make sure it's flat. You can however, attach an Apple keyboard, just another way for Apple to make money.

8. App Store Again
Just like the iPod Touch you have to download everything from an App store. Meaning if you don't like Safari, you're stuck with it. Some apps may be banned once again.

9. No Cameras
Yeah no web cams on the front, and no cameras for photos or videos from the back either.

10. No Removable Battery
You can't just take an extra battery with you on a long trip because the battery works the same way as an iPod (though my bet is, it doesn't last as long).

11. No HDMI/DVI Output
You can't plug this thing into your TV to display your HD movies. You'd need AppleTV for that.

12. No Widescreen
16:9 ain't happening, you're stuck with a 4:3 screen.

13. No GPS
There's no GPS, so --unlike the T-Mobile MyTouch or the Verizon Droid which both run on Android, can multitask and have GPS so that you can use the Beta Google Maps Navigation system for turn-by-turn directions-- you're stuck with locating yourself via WiFi hotspots.

14. It's Large, Slow, and Clunky
Not only will you have to buy accessories to protect your device, it's very large making it easy to drop and probably won't live a healthy life in a backpack filled with notebooks and other possibly sharp objects. There may be a number of accessories sold by Apple to cover some of these problems.

The iPad max speed is 1GHz (A4 processor) and will probably be just as slow surfing the web as most other smartphones and it won't match up to netbooks. There is no Mac OS X or anything either, it's definitely the iPhone OS except without the Phone capability and of course I'm sure they will ban Google Voice and Skype.

The iPad is about the size of a Kindle, so it is nice for reading e-books I suppose, but then I'm not sure why I wouldn't just buy a Kindle.

As with all companies that initially have much success, they get a little overconfident and launch a product just to create more hype and increase their stock prices.

More related iPad Problem resources:

The iPad is a tablet computer developed by Apple Inc. Announced on January 27, 2010, it is similar in functionality to the iPhone and iPod touch, running the same operating system (iPhone OS) and almost all of the same applications...

Hi! I need to start a filming business. I have a name for the business, but not sure what to do. How do I make a filming business for real. Now my job or jobs that I have done, I film a hunt then make it into a video. The hunter then pays for my services and in the end he/she will get a video of their experience. So I am kind of a free lancer, I guess.

Hi Y'all newbie here and major procrastinator. Anyway finally got around to transferring kids home movies from 10 years ago and image from tapes appear negative-like and blurry? Tried numerous cassettes and they all look the same. Could it be age/condition or could it be cables? Very distraught over it. Are my treasures gone? I feel like an idiot for waiting so long to handle this. Thanks, Rick

Does anyone here do hunting video's? I am only interested in filming outdoors/hunting (no weddings). I have a question on how to promote this kind of business. Myself, My dad, and my husband got the equipment we need and I have produced 3 DVD's so far and have gotten a lot of good compliments. Right now we were asked to go to maine with an outfitter to produce a promotional video about guided bear hunts. My question is: How or where can I get information on writing up a good contract? Does anyone have any experience in this field that would be willing to give me some advice? Like I said I am just starting to do this as a business opportunity instead of a hobby, and it seems to be something that is demanded in my area. Also, any suggestions on how much to charge? Do you charge by the hour or day? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello friends,

I know this question gets asked at least daily, But here goes...

I am considering the jump to HD, I currently use sony dsr250 shoulder mount and v2000 handheld. I am considering HD if I can find a comparable model shoulder mount with about the same controls ie-manual focus, manual exp etc... Any suggestions from users? Are the avchd models any good? will a handheld match the quality of a shoulder mount?

I shoot primarily weddings and a few music vids..

Thanks for any feedback..Harry

I am fairly new in video editing and I want to make a DVD with best image/resolution/audio quality from 48 small *.avi clips ranging from 53 to 55 MB in size and about 5 to 5.5 minutes long play time. They all have about 29.70 seconds of startup routine that I want to cut off from all except one clip that would be the first clip. Currently the combined size of all the clips is about 2.5 GB but, I think, after removing first 29.70 seconds of video from 47 of them would probably make the total data size of 2.3 GBâ?¦so how can I edit and burn these clips in more time-efficient way on a 4.7 GB DVD-R which I can play on a regular DVD player to watch on a TV? Can somebody help me with this small project? Thanks in Advance!
