Hi Guys

We currently film sports events that consist of many short video clips i.e. 2mins. We want this footage to be available to competitors in mpeg4 format very quickly after they have finished - to transfer to USB pen drive etc. We use a Canon XL2, film in 16:9 SD PAL, we have a MAC Pro and use FCP. What would we need to setup to capture the footage live and encode it to MPEG4 from the video stream so the clips were available straight away. Any help most appreciated. Many Thanks KJP

Looking for
a camcorder and really need some help. My old Canon XM2 (GL2) is just not doing
the job anymore, and I am tired of tapes and standard res. Not to mention it's
starting to look antique, so it's not really giving me that professional confidence
boost when I pull it out.

What I am
looking for is something like this:

- Full HD
avchd

- Midsize
with handle. Need a pro look for my business so a small one, won't do the job.

- Record to
SD card and/or internal memory (flash or HD)

- Decent
wide angle (or a cam to which a good wide-adapter can be bought at a reasonable
price)

- Decent
battery time.

- Heavy
enough for steady handling, light enough to be able to shoot using the handle
for some time.

- Good low
light quality as I will be shooting lots inside and not always with optimal
light.

- Generally
speaking, image quality more important than audio quality.

- Maximum
price: Around 4,500 USD / 2.800 GBP

These are
the cams I have been looking at:

- Sony
HXR-NX70E

- Canon
XF100

- Panasonic
AG-HMC40/41

- Sony
NEX-VG2OEH

The Sony
HXR-NX70 gets great lowlight reviews, but it's expensive and I don't know if I
would be paying for lots of stuff I will never need (like the jungle-thing,
waterproof, dustproof etc)

The Canon
XF100 also at the very top of my budget, but seems like an overall great
camera.

The
Panasonic is affordable and I think would certainly do the job had I always a
perfect light set-up, but I am worried that the lense is small and that it does
a bad job in less than great light. I am tempted by an offer right now of 2040
GBP for the camera + XLR-adapter + iPad.

The Sony
NEX-VG2, i Just saw this, looks different and interesting, but can't compare
the lense really, so am fairly clueless.

Any cams I
have left out?

And which of these would you suggest and why?

(Note: Could not find a general camcorder forum, only brand specific ones. Please feel free to move this thread to any correct forum I might have missed.)

Hello to All! I'm new to the forum and even though I have been filming for sometime now, I am now trying to make some money with it, so I want to make sure I do things right the first time. My biggest concern is audio. To start with, when I plug in headphones to the audio jack on the canon GL2 camera, all I get is static. What am I doing wrong? Plus, when I plug in my Rode mic to the jack, I don't feel that the audio is any different from the built in mic. What's up with that? Now I know that I can add an XLR adaptor and buy another mic, but that's not in the budget right now. Plus I am thinking that maybe a wireless mic would be better. Anyway, all thoughts welcomed. Thanks in Advance for your advice!

Hello, i am a young filmmaker that needs a new camera. I wanted a Canon Vixia HV40, but i dont have a firewire port on my laptop. I want an HD camera that easy to use but has features that i can control the exposure and white balance to make my movies look better. I want to pay under 1000, so i have money left for other things, but i thought i would come here because i know the people on this forum are very knowledge full and have all been in my place at some point in their life. so if anyone can tell me the name of a decent priced HD Camcorder thats good for yong filmmaker, Thank you!

I ride Motorcycle and I do what's called Vlogging. I like to record my rides and commentate during my ride. I am looking for an external mic, no shake feature. I will mount this on my bike, some shake is acceptable, I have been looking high and low for this product. I have tried the VADO HD, the Kodak i8 not what I want. Is there any products out there that fit this bill. I don't want to spend the kings ransom either but I do know that for something decent it will cost something. Just wanted to have some options to look over so that I know what I need to spend and also get the best bang for my buck.

Hello - I'm having a problem with one of my pc's. It freezes up when playing footage I dumped from my XL2. So I'm wondering what the best process is to convert the footage to something else, so that I won't lose quality. The pc seems to play every other type of video file.

I have owned a canon XM1 for about 10 years its been brilliant for small music videos etc.. nothing too professional http://www.youtube.com/pyraplastic

Hello all;

It has been some time since I have posted. Just shot another wedding, and learned that the I had some issues with camera 1 Sony. Had two other sources so all is fine. I had to replace the Sony and I recall that I had asked as many have asked about a good low cost camera.

As it turned out I did indeed find a sale. $300 off a Canon. It was priced at $799.00 I got it for $499. It is this beauty here

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/682488-REG/Canon_4060B001_VIXIA_HF21_Dual_Flash.html

The specs are perfect for a low budget film maker. Has mic input (although mini) has hot shoe, has a manual stick focus, and shoots in 24fps. Has tons of pro features for the poor camera man. Mine will be here soon and I have read most of the manual already and am ready to shoot. Also comes with a full remote control. Built in light, Has the Canon EoS. A really really good deal. I just wanted to share because it ends Saturday.

Here is the frosting

Hello,
We are using a Canon Vixia HV40 HDV video camera and a Sennheiser ew100 G3 System with camera mount receiver attached to the accessory shoe. We are using a right-angle stereo-to-stereo cable to plug the camera mount receiver into the Camera. However, when we plug our headphones into the AV output on the camera, we can only hear the audio in one ear. The AV output settings are changed to headphones, and we checked the audio output channels on the camera to make sure L/R is selected. We also hear the audio out of only one of the speakers when playing back the video on our media player. The Sennheiser unit also comes with a Stereo-to-XLR cable, which we could then try a beachtek adapter to plug the Sennheiser into the adapter, then connect the adapter to the camera, just to see what happens. But would this solve the problem, and even if it does, do we need to add anohter device into the chain? Wouldn't we be able to use the sennheiser as-is, record on one track and split the audio in post using our NLE? What are the pro's and cons? Just trying to learn from the experience of others who have done this before, before we do our own trial-and-error. Thanks!

I've been trying for days to find a camera with these features:

1. Small
2. Mic input
3. Wireless or wired remote zoom, or LANC input
4. Under $400

SD or HD does not matter to me. The Canon FS200 comes close, but has no remote zoom. Likewise, I've seen Sony models with the zoom but no mic input. If the camera has a LANC input, I could buy a remote zoom.

Anyone know of one that combines all the above features?

Thanks for any help!

My Canon M30 has a rattle when it's off. It definately is on the lens end. I have ruled out the lens cover by putting a finger on it and giving it a shake. I am guessing I am hearing the (taking a shot into the dark) optical stabilized lens? What brought me to this conclusion is that as soon as I power up the camera it stops.

Camera works great, no issues, but I want to know that this is "normal" or do I have a problem.

Hello,

I have had a JVC Analog (1997) Camcorder, and after all these yearsa, I'm trying to transfer all my C tapes to DVD. I bought the Pinnacle 12.1 Studio, and although when I capture my AVI movie files from mt Canon G6 digital camera shooting at hi res, they are ok, far better of course than any reproduction of a analog VHS, VSH-C tapes, granted. Would this Canon camcorder br alright for a begiinner delving into the digiatal transfer to make DVD's to play on CD/DVD Players and BluRay players? I was shocked to find that a 20 minute DVD disc I made on studio 12.1, would actually playback on my SONY BDP-350!

When the first HDD Camcorders came out, they were popular, but now with the bigger flash Cam-cameras, Using a HDD bouncing around on a boat, is not a stable environment for a hard drive, and they could and have crashed, just like a computer, I would assume.

I have been researching camcorders, visiting the Sony Vegas forum, etc. and seem to narrow the camera down to the Canon HF S11. My criteria was....

... I liked the idea of a hard drive, versus tape (can get de-magnetized) minidvd (I already have one and is costing me a fortune.

... Audio input (for wireless mic)

... A nice hot shoe

... Great reviews

Now, the forums state that with the LCD monitors interlaced is taking a backseat to progressive.

Is there any recommendations you would offer ? I am stepping up the beginning of next year for a Prosumer style, but want to keep the cost in the $1200-$1600 range for now.

Thank You !

I have just started to work with my new XH A1 and have been shooting some interviews. It is being used along with a GL2 and the GL2 is much sharper than the A1. I am downloading both into Adobe Premier and I have to use an Unsharp mask at 150 to even get them close. Canon support has not been any help. Has anybody experienced the same problem or is there a workflow that is best to get the best out of this camera? Thanks for any help!

I am recording our Sunday church service with a Canon Vixia hf s200. I have a single audio cable running from our sound boards tape out, directly into the camera. the audio is fine, no distortion or hum or anything. When i connect the a/v cable to a tv, with a male to male a/v cable (connected to TV) connected to a coupler to male a/v to male 1/8" (connected to camcorder) i have a hum in the recording, which doesn't make sense to me, considering it is sending the signal to TV, not from TV to camcorder. the hum is only there when i connect the cable from the camcorder a/v out to the coupler which connects to the a/v cable into the TV...any reason why?

I am a novice using my first video camera, a Canon Vixia HF200. I have a PC which runs on a Vista operating system. I have successfully downloaded the bundled Pixela software and uploaded my video clips to the PC. I can use the editing software. However, I have been unable to burn/write a movie to the DVD after following the instructions to the letter. I was able to burn/write a video clip to a CD and DVD so it is not my PC burner. I also cannot figure out how to get a MPEG file to be read by Microsoft Movie works on my computer. I am recording family events and simply want to edit them and burn a DVD to share with others. I have read about conversion software.

What is the most user friendly software that will allow me to upload my videos to my computer (PC), edit and make a movie, and burn a DVD, email or upload to website?

Thank you in advance for any helpful responses.

Hello,

I just ordered a Kenko KRW-065 PRO DX-C lens for my Canon VIXIA HF S200. The mounting of this lens is nothing like the mounting on the camera, yet it states that it is indeed Canon camcorder compatible. The lens has a bayonet mount and my limited knowledge thinks that I need a thread mount. I thought for sure that this exact lens was recommended by a forum user in the past. Can anyone please confirm if this model lens is compatible with this model camera before I return it to the retailer?

I have a Canon XL1s that I just don't use anymore. It's a great camera and there is nothing wrong with it. I just don't have time for it anymore. I have a lot of extra things to go with it including a monitor that mounts on the top and an extra wide angle lens. I am needing to sell this, so if you have questions or want to see pictures, please email me at jawholt@gmail.com. I am not listing a price because I am willing to negotiate about the whole package.

I have a Canon GL2 camcorder and I need to purchase an audio adapter so I can use XLR cables with my mics. I was looking at getting the MA300 adapter. I guess I just wanted some peoples advice on weather this is a good product or not. I already have the camera and have two mics with xlr outputs, I just need a good way to connect the two. I was also hoping to find the cheapest way to do this with out having really bad audio. Thanks for your help.

Canon HFR11 Camcorder. Be careful buying this camcorder. I bought it fo our summer vacation. Tried editing the video and my edited clips lacked sychronization - people talking but mouths not moving, following clip audio coming in on previous clip and there are other types of glitches in the edited video clips.
Found out that the included Pixela software program requires at least a processor with at least 2.33 GHz (for high quality video) and my HP notebook only has 2.10 GHz. Cannot upgrade my HP Notebook processor as it only supports 2.2GHz. Any suggestions how to edit my videos?

Fortunately, Costco has a 90 day return policy and I am still under that.
Also, no flash, and have to set to Manual Exposure when filming in indoor setting and to compensate for backlighting.
Ray

Bit of a noob so please bear with me if I'm asking an obvious question.

I am recording with a HF200 and inputting audio through the external mic input.

I'm outputting the audio to the camera from an M-Audio Fast Track Pro through a TRS output (inputting into the Fat Track PRo with a se X1 Mic). Â

All I'm getting recorded though is a slight buzz and some very muffled/fuzzy sounding audio.

If I plug the same output into my iPhone and record it sounds fine.

Is it because the m-audio box isn't outputting the right kind of signal?

Any help much appreciated as I'm really happy with both bits of kit but just trying to get them working together.

Thanks

Is there a way to upload (via USB or SD HC) Canon Vixia HF M [Series] HD files directly into Adobe Premiere Elements 8 without having to bother with the Pixela application?

(Why do great camera vendors provide terrible editing software in a manner which interfers with good video? Canon, Panasonic--the whole lot--would be much better off investing the money they waste on bad software--which cannot compete with Premiere--into what they do best: great camcorders.)

I recently purchased a Canon Vixia HF S11 and am having difficulty, to say the least, editing the video. I also just purchased Sony Vegas Movie Studio, only to find out that it has great difficulty in editing Canon video. I have uploaded my files to my computer (.mts files) and can view them in Vegas but the footage is choppy and grainy. I read on a forum about NewBlue Upshift program that converts the files to .m2t This does work, however the cost of the full program is around $80 and is about the cost for Sony Vegas itself. I am looking for another program that would allow me to edit Canon's videos that is relatively problem free and not overly expensive. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!!!

We just bought a Canon Vixia HF S21 Camcorder. We wanted to buy an
external microphone for it. The only one that Canon has is the DM-100,
but it is out of stock every where including Canon. Canon forces you to
use their equipment with this camcorder, so we are kind of stuck. Are
there any adapters that will allow us to use other external microphones
with this camcorder. I have read a little about cold shoe adapters, but
don't know a whole lot about them.

Thank You
