Sync signal
- The portion of the video signal that establishes the timing of events. Every 1/30th of a second, the sync signal must divide each field of video into precisely 525 lines, so that a TV or video monitor will be able to properly display the image. Without proper synchronization, a transition between two video images will cause the picture to roll across the screen or break up completely.
Time Base Corrector
- A device that provides a clean, uninterrupted sync signal for the purposes of copying or synchronizing video sources.
