  • A stand-alone black box that provides synchronized transitions between multiple video sources. See also SEG.

Sync signal

  • The portion of the video signal that establishes the timing of events. Every 1/30th of a second, the sync signal must divide each field of video into precisely 525 lines, so that a TV or video monitor will be able to properly display the image. Without proper synchronization, a transition between two video images will cause the picture to roll across the screen or break up completely.

Time Base Corrector

  • A device that provides a clean, uninterrupted sync signal for the purposes of copying or synchronizing video sources.
