These cool-to-the-touch LED video lights are dimmable, can adjust for color temperature and remote operation.
LED lights are becoming increasingly popular due to their energy efficiency, long life and compact design. Litepanels has utilized these benefits of LED lights and designed the Hilio to offer the video and photo industry with an LED fixture which outperforms the conventional incandescent and mercury-vapor lamps used for similar applications.
The fixture consists of seventy-two one-watt LED lights arranged in a grid of 6 rows and 12 columns. It's made from corrosion resistant aluminum which makes it sturdy, lightweight, durable and quick to cool. The LED lights produce a 5600 Kelvin (daylight color temperature) soft light well suited for HD recording and photography. The luminosity of the fixture is comparable to that of a 1,000-watt incandescent bulb or a 575-watt mercury bulb. It generates a beam that has a diameter of 8.4 feet at a distance of 16 feet with an intensity of 72 foot-candles.
Not only is the Hilio a powerful light, it is also compact in shape, draws less electricity and generates minimal heat. This means less electricity consumption, less waste of electricity and lower air conditioning cost. The light can possibly have a life of 50,000 hours, which is about 13 years based on daily 10-hour usage. If so, one can expect a possible return of investment within three years of a typical studio use just by the reduction in electricity bills and bulb replacement costs.
Built-in cooling fans automatically start when the fixture heats up and if one desires noiseless operation, silent mode can be activated. This increases the threshold temperature for the fan auto starts. A built-in safety feature will automatically shut down the unit if unsafe temperatures are reached.
At the back of the Hilio are the dimming controls and the DMX module. The light can be dimmed from zero to 100 percent while still maintaining the daylight color temperature. If changing the color temperature is desired, up to two filters or gels can be attached in front of the light. Dimming can be achieved remotely by using the DMX interface.
